Sometimes it isn't being "anti social" it could be also that you want to get out fast or that you don't want to be kind of "locked" when you sit on the window seat and someone sit down next to you. I would always move, stand up (if I want to sit on the "inside seat") if someone ask me. Sometimes I also find it kind of "not polite" if you sit on the window seat and another person just sit down, and wouldn't ask but this depends on the situation

What I find even more irritating is people getting on the bus train before all people are out. If even old immobile grey people can wait why can some other 'normal' people not

Yes this happens in Britain! But the really annoying thing is wen two ppl r together but one will sit behind the other to tlk and they both in the aisle seat! That really is annoying

This does not happen that much in Hungary (since everyone rather sits next to anyone else than have to sit backwards) I for one always sit on the outer seat because I always carry my 10 kg backpack, and because I only sit 2 stops so it's like 10 seconds of sitting down (sorry I for also sharing personal experience)

Yes - happens in London too. I just stand next to them, staring until they move over, or move aside so I can take the window seat. Wankers - the lot of them!

Why' Haven´t you got a mouth to politely ask for the window seat? Every time I have done it, people are always nice and say "Sure", even standing up as to give you plenty of space to get in the seat. That you cannot open your damn mouth and ask for it in a polite way is another thing.

If it happens in first world countries, why wouldnt it happen Everywhere? Im from Mexico and Hell, people get pretty intense in the bus.

Don't worry. If not phones, then the world would have been reading the newspaper or books or listening to music, I think. At least they're talking to people through messaging apps :)

Same in Germany. Sometimes they sit on the window seat and the other seat is for their handbag. So many people are standig, but the handbag needs a seat! >.<

this isn't a problem of today. like my grandpa told me: 60 years ago people did this in busses and trains. 60 years ago people buried their heads in newspaper to avoid contact with others. we ALWAYS were anti-social.

Yep! Happens here too. I sometimes sit just like them because......because....other STINK! LIKE SKUNKS! I like skunks, but not sittting next to me. In a bus. With closed doors and windows. Also, most people here who ride the bus are retired, old people. Women smell nice, but men..oh God, you need a gas mask! Retired people get free rides by bus, 90% of passengers are old people. I'm ok with that. What i cannot stand is they don't shower before they leave home! I remember few weeks ago a homeless man got into the bus. He was so stinky the whole bus started to stink. He had no ticket. So...i sometimes sit there. If it's crowded and too many older people i rather stand up and move around to find a less smelly place. It's sad people don't shower.

In this part of America (New York), no one is social, and they avoid each other as much as possible. You know how electrons avoid doubling up until necessary? That's totally Americans on public transportation. Though, I've heard that it's different outside of New York and that whole area.

it does in Mexico, pretty odd to choose the least-mean face to ask for the window seat haha or where I live the seat where you get the least Sun light (currently here in north Baja we are having 40's and 50's celcius...)

Ironically, places that don't tolerate this are viewed as overly aggressive and personal space deniers. I just take the window seat by bringing my backside within inches of their face. Problem solved and punishment given.
