White House Christmas decorations have a long history, with the first indoors tree dating back to President Benjamin Harrison's term in 1889. Since then, the presidential house delivers lavish Christmas decorations each year, to inspire the festive spirit of the US citizens. And as gorgeous as the White House Christmas used to be, it all changed when President Trump's wife, Melania Trump, got her chance to deck the halls. Thanks to the First Lady, this year's Christmas decorations inspired so many funny memes, that even we here at Bored Panda, had difficulty in narrowing them down to one list. It started after Melania Trump's Communications Director, Stephanie Grisham, tweeted a photo of the White House's festive decorations, to which the people responded by hilariously poking fun at what looks like a Tim Burton-designed Christmas horror anti-wonderland.
From The Shining to Pan's Labyrinth, the eerie twig-lined hallway got all the attention and Photoshop it deserved, highlighting that the White House definitely looks more frightening than merry. THIS IS BS: I despite Trump and all he stands for but I have done the research and you are quite CORRECT. The above picture was taken before it was properly lit. The trees are now lit and they look very nice and sparkly. My apologies to Melania for thinking otherwise.

Yes, most of the trappings of Christmas were taken from the Pagan festivals. But it was GREEN branches, clippings etc. to remind everyone of the continuity of life and to give cheer during the dark of winter. NOT dead branches and icy white light.

Even "if" Xmas begin as Pagan festival, you really don't need to decorate White house and some Horror House. People look up to this building as a monument of their democracy and values, it should reflect happiness and joy not sadistic energy.

Christmas began as a after thought to celebrate the birth if Jesus, so the pagan and Jewish converts wouldn't be tempted to revert to their old celebrations, thus Christmas nearly coincides with Hanukkah and Easter with Passover. The early Christian elders wanted to keep their flocks interested by giving them celebrations close to those they had had before.

Correct, but not just Jewish holidays. We pagans still celebrate the Winter Solstice and our spring festival of Ostara (named for a Goddess, by the way, whose consort was a rabbit). Hmmm...that name is SO familiar! They also took our Beltaine and made it "May Day".

I agree. I haven't heard anything much about her activities, if any. Michelle Obama was always involved in projects and always was visible and upbeat and fun! Loved her talk show appearances. Can't picture Melania with Jimmy Fallon or Jimmy Kimmel!

I agree. . . I actually can't stand The Donald or Melania, but when you start making fun of taste and looks, that is just mean. Especially during the holidays. Plus, it is a very striking look. Dramatic. I like it. She can't please everyone all the time so f**k y'all and she'll do it her way. Break out the spray paint and go to it, girl!!
