Spanish artist Gerard Mas, who is currently based in Barcelona, creates humorous marble sculptures that combine quirky, cheeky attitude of modern day culture with reserved behavioral traits of Renaissance era.
Sculptor shows elegant 15th-century ladies picking their noses, chewing gum and blowing bubbles, or using headsets while talking on the phone. "I thought about the millions of attitudes and situations that old artworks couldn't capture because they were simply inappropriate for a lady in the 15th century," Mas says. "I decided to try to do it in an old media and style. It was something like an invented old art. After that, the anachronisms came and pop elements, too, as a natural evolution."

Next on our tour is "Girl About to Slapped into Next Week by Mother"
the sculptor should do one where you try to apply eyeliner and can't get it to be even so you keep adding!!
Am I the only one who thinks she looks kinda like human-Fiona from Shrek???
"Look at that focus." "I know - she's been training for this one event since she was seven." "Difficulty level of Five..." "And here she goes, into the build-up ..." "Whoa; she's done it! A Double-inverse Deep-gouge with Final Flick! What a performance!"
Dear Hidreley: in the short time since I am here at BP, I already came to the conclusion that you're one of the, if not THE, best content-providers here. Your posts never disappoint, really. Keep on the good work, matey!
You guys have to go on his Instagram. He's got some amazing work not shown here, including wood sculptures and cast sculptures. https://www.instagram.com/gerard_mas/
Amazing stuff. Not only technically top-notch, they capture the vibe of the time period they're based upon.
I think the facial features are "modern". Where are the aquiline noses, the misshaped 7heads...? The artist did a great job, he knows his trade, but the ladies look all alike.
I really don’t understand what the artist is trying to say. Maybe it the original works were shown next to the modernized ones? Please someone explain, I'm art-appreciation-challenged but I’m trying to learn!
Seventh image: I could not see ANYTHING unusual in this one. Like, ANYTHING. The more I looked, the more perfectly normal found I this particular bust. Nothing out of place. And then the bells rang inside my head and I saw it. >XD
I dunno what image you're talking about, as they tend to change places. As of this moment, the image I see at #7 is a Humming Bird in a womans ear.
