That post should come with a warning. My heart almost stopped. So glad that ended well for the kid and driver. The boy is gonna get a hell of a talking to about that.

The Mother couldn't take the time for a heart attack. I'm sure she had a shock attack after it was over. Been there, yeah , I know how it feels to be that mom and she is extremely happy to tears on her knees thanking you, that ya all were pay'n attention and stopped in time.

My husband did this as a child. The reason the car stopped and didn't hit him was because they noticed something across the road and stopped to look.

I found this to be one of the more interesting disasters avoided. The material choice made all the difference. If it were silver or gold it would have had enough ductility to deform rather than break, resulting in a crushed ring. I also found it interesting that if any deformation occurred, it happened exclusively in the elastic region. This makes me want to do 3 things. 1) Get a tungsten-carbide ring myself. 2) Get several tungsten-carbide rings and test them to see if this was a fluke or not. I personally don't think it was. 3) Explore other applications for tungsten-carbide where cracking would be preferable to a large deformation.
