Two days ago I lost my guinea pig Archie. He got sick overnight and I took him to the vet to see if she could cure him. A few antibiotic shots later and with some critical care I went back home with Archie. With hope in my heart; I thought he was going to be okay. He died in my arms a few hours later.

The worst is when time has come for a pet to pass on. It's horrible to see them slip away and not being able to do something about it. You feel so powerless.

When a pet dies, people often say: ''just get a new one.'' As many people know, you don't just 'get a new one'. Our beloved pets touch our hearts and each and every animal is unique in their own way. They have their own personality and you love them so much for being silly, sweet or crazy. Even when they make a huge mess or when they pee on you.

Sometimes people think you are or should be over it after a few days or weeks. That's not the case. When animals touched your heart and were a part of your life, there is a high chance you will never get over losing one of your furry babies. You just learn to live without them.

god bless im so sorry. My baby boy passed a few days ago his name was liam i named him he was black a white stripe on his mouth and tan stripe halfway on his back. my family didnt tell me till i got my school work finished and i couldnt go near the cage the night before he was wheezing really bad and sneezing and oozig out of his nose i was scared i started crying i tried convincin my family to take him to the vet they said he was fine he didnt need to go that he caught a cold i had a feeling he was going to die i googled it and everything. The next day he passed i couldnt help myself but to scream and cry i started to have panick attacks because i couldnt belive my baby was gone. My cousin took him to an exoctic vet and she said he was healthy and i took care of him really well and he died of old age. the pet store told me he was 1 year i had him for a year and i rounded it up to 2 but he was around the age 5 im happy for him but my baby is just gone but it doesnt feel like hes gone.

Sorry for the loss of your "Guin". That's what I always called mine. His name was Oscar and he was also a ginger with a little white on him. Plus he had a little "tag" hanging off his ear, we believe he may have been bitten at the pet store where we "adopted" him. He was a "humper " so he was free, so yes it was an adoption. The funny thing was we set out to get a baby guinea pig but we got a 6 month old boar that we fell in love with instantly- the moment the pet store clerk put him into my arms! xoxo feel better

Thank you so much. That sounds so lovely, Oscar sounded like a great piggy too. I adopted Archie from a nearby shelter. It was love at first sight too.

So sorry to hear about Archie. I have two piggies and I love them so I know how you feel. They are the sweetest and they have a big piece of your heart.

My guinea pig is 5 1/2. He’s developed a fast growing tumor next to his right leg. I don’t know how much longer he’s going to live, but I hope it’s around a year or at least a few more months.

Great pictures. I am so sorry for your loss. As someone who has many pets over the years (Including my son's very personable and sweet guinea named September), you never get over them, stop missing them or "replace" them, you just learn how to get by without them.

Thank you so much. Exactly my thoughts, a pet can never be replaced.

Their lips are so funny indeed. I loved Archie's 'doughnut lips' so much. I'm so sorry for your loss too. Guinea pigs may be small, but they take up such a big place in our hearts.

I bet there was a brief tug of war over that cucumber! Who won?

The grey guinea pig (Mieps) won. This was when Archie was just with us for a few weeks, so he wasn't very assertive yet. He did give it a good fight though. Here is a video of them ''fighting'' over this piece of cucumber: https://youtu.be/bFp3oVTIT9Y
