All the job opportunities, plenty of places to pick for dinner, and endless options for weekend activities are some of the shiniest gems the city has to offer. No wonder so many young (and sometimes old) people are drawn to the metropolitan glam. Amongst those who are most eager to join the big city life are those hailing from humble beginnings in small towns, all ready to escape the isolated areas where it feels like everyone's living in your backyard. However, you can't truly escape the small city aura no matter how far away you run. In a way, it's in your blood.
That's why one of the best ways to deal with things you dislike about living in a small town is to laugh at them. Despite big cities seemingly offering more opportunities for people, the rural areas of America are not entirely dying out. In fact, studies show that there is a surge of people (including younger generations) that move away from the big cities in search of affordable housing and quiet lifestyle. And that’s completely understandable when you look at the rent costs in the biggest USA cities. My Junior prom my friends and I all went to Bandidos... Senior prom I ate a banana at home before I went to prom by myself. A nice guy made sure I didn't walk down Promenade alone that year, though.

I don't live in the town anymore, but of the four people in my kindergarten class (including me), one boy moved away part way through the year, I almost skipped ahead, and the other two were twins that didn't pass kindergarten. In fact, they were two or three years behind when they did finally graduated. They're still around that town, it's where my mom's Family is from, so we visit there often.
That's kinda cool, I think, I lost touch with so many people, can't even find them on FB.
I prefer lesser-known local restaurants, every one I have eaten at while travelling has had better food than most chains.

Many moons ago when I was young I jumped into our pond to save one of our ducks that had a huge tear in her side. My Dad decided to give her stiches( he did great, she went on to live a long health life) . He mentioned it to one of his friends. A few weeks later the story came back around to him that he jumped into the pond to save me and then he gave ME stitches. Gotta love living in a small town.
I flew from England to New York a few years ago, i was halfway up the empire state building and who should be coming down the other way, my ex-girlfriend from wayback, my wife really thought we had planned to meet up or something, it was ridiculous, like how can i get away from you people?

Our town was so small there were T-Shirts that said Where the Hell is Tulare CA. That you could by in the bigger towns. I went to a K-8 school, our graduating clasee was fifteen the same fifteen I went through school with. and I can probably name them all still.

i used to live in a small town in Pennsylvania and I remember I saw my teachers like everywhere and you could of said "You know Luna?" and everyone would have been like "oh yeah", even if you had a basic name, like mary, grace or Rebecca or something you can literally say their 1st name and everyone knew who they were

I have lived in several spots and find it funny how relative the definition of small town. I grew up a couple of miles outside of a town of about 1000 folks where the 50 or so folks in my area, considered it their own town. I live in a town of about 20K now where the folks from the nearest major city feel that I must live in a tent.

I grew up in a biggish city (big enough that some areas are like living in small towns) and you see the same thing. Lived in many small cities as an adult and always had to find someone to translate the local drama so I wouldn't make any faux pa's.

The last town I lived in was so small that it had to share a school system with two other neighboring small towns. There was only one restaurant and two small grocery stores among them (none in my town) and if you wanted to go to a different restaurant or grocery store, you had to go to the nearest large town.
Your brother in law denying something happened but the most of the town knows it did happen before you find out. Those up there bring back memories, sometimes I miss that everyone knows what is going on with your life before you do.

I'm from a small town, population 700. Recently did a walkthrough of my childhood home, which is up for sale. Shared the story and photos on the town FB page and got dozens of comments from people who remembered me and my family. We moved to a different town FORTY years ago. I LOVE my small town.
Neighborhoods in large cities are just like small towns. I can sit at my desk and hear someone walking down the street and know who it is. You recognize cars by their sound. You know how much people drink by their recycling bin. You know who is having boyfriend/girlfriend problems. You always see your neighbors at the local diner/restaurant/news agent. Everyone knows everyone's business.
Depends how spread out it is. Went to school in a town of 2,000 and it was definitely small.
Load More Replies... Canada is the same as America. It's town or city, or Unincorporated Township if it's super duper ultra tiny and doesn't have it's own services like police or fire department. Maybe a "small" or "large" thrown in for scale, but that's it. It's different all over, but the basics are taht towns are small and cities are big. You place have 2,000 people? Town. 200,000? City. Growing up I never once heard any place here referred to as a village. It goes by population.
