Don’t you just love it when a hamster is in the room? It radiates such amazing energy and joy! These cute little creatures are so full of life and have a way of catching your attention. Needless to say, they’re not just fun pets.
They’re also the perfect subjects to photograph! No wonder people post hamster memes and pictures on the internet (not as much as cats and dogs, but hamsters are still pretty high in the Favorite Pets ranking).
Do you know that a hamster once earned a Guinness World Record? In 1974, a hamster in Louisiana gave birth to 26 baby hamsters. The average number is 8 babies per litter. And since we’re talking about awards, hamsters hands down win the “Cutest Animal Ever Award”. It’s not an official award, but don’t dare tell us they don’t deserve it. Maybe it’s because their tiny little bodies are like marshmallows. Maybe it’s because they have such sweet faces and small paws.
Or maybe it’s because they move around so quickly; it’s as if they know you want to wrap your hands around them, but they make sure you can’t catch them. Whatever the reason, we think these cute hamster pictures show they may be small, but they have big personalities. Warning: cuteness overload ahead!

This is simply adorable, unfortunately, wheels like that can easily get hamster feet caught in them and break their legs. Bar wheels are often bought because they are the cheapest option, but wheels that are made of hole-less plastic, while more expensive, are much better for their health. Also, I noticed the lack of bedding, space, and things to do. Hamsters are very active creatures, and they love to burrow and make underground tunnels. Around eight to twelve inches of sturdy bedding is enough for most hamsters. Hamsters should also be provided with plenty of chew toys and hides to keep themselves busy. I hate to rain on the parade here, but proper care must be taken into account so all animals in human care live they’re happiest lives!

Also - wood chips are bad for hamsters as the volatile oils can scar their lungs.

Keep in mind when getting hamsters, they need to have been raised together and properly bonded before living in the same enclosure. I had two hamsters together as a kid, and they killed each other after several fights. I was pretty much scarred for life after that.

The hamster should have zero difficulty climbing out of that if desired. It's also generally a rule of thumb that stressed animals don't eat, so I'd say that's likely a happy hamster.

My rat Hamlet broke her arm my sophomore year of college. Because of her "cast", she obviously had a hard time moving around and developed pneumonia. I tried to nurse her back to health, even made a bed out of an old lunchbox and kept her with me as I went to classes. My poor baby lived another two months but looking back on it now, i shouldn't have put her through that.

BOOOH I signed - like - a hundred petitions from Peta and other orgs against hose horrible glue traps that are used in many countries to catch and kill mice, but that actually kill other animals like birds or hamsters too, in Germany glue traps are "only" legal to hang from your ceiling to catch flies, I find that cruel either and never ever used them, I use a fly swatter if I have too many of them annoying me in my apartment, if I get them it´s one quick swat and they´re dead, but they do not get stuck and do not starve, thanks so much for rescuing this precious lil hamster!!!

Just a little more care information, I know I’m super bad with just “living with it”. Anyway, hamsters are very energetic, and they should be given a larger enclosure than us to take out all their energy. Also, hamsters need wheels big enough so that their backs don’t bend. If their backs Bend, there’s a risk of them getting back injury. I would also recommend cage that could hold more bedding, because hamsters are excellent at burrowing and love digging tunnels in about 8 to 12 inches of bedding. This picture is adorable, and I mean no offense to the owner. I have owned rodents almost my entire life, and I used to care for my pets in and inefficient fashion when I was younger as well. I totally understand where this person is coming from, and I think their pet is precious and loved.

Unfortunately, that ball is too small and could hurt her little back. Balls are also not the most safe option, because they can crash, be stepped, on or fall down stairs, therefore causing damage or in some cases killing hamsters. A safer option is play pens or other large enclosed spaces.

I walked my hammy just like this when I was a kid. Built stick forts in grass and dirt, etc. He lived in a habitrail with cedar shavings and had an exercise ball. Gasp! My boy lived to 6+yo.Yes, 6! I've had others dispute this age. Please don't. Be careful, use common sense with your hams.

Y'all, I know this is unwanted advice but... Hamsters should not be housed together unless for 2 reasons. 1- they are baby hammies and still need to bee separated at a certain age. 2- Roborovski hamsters can be housed together. Hammies are very territorial and will fight and harm other hammies... especially if they are different sizes.

Seeing pictures like that I'm always wondering how do people do it. When I was a kid I had hamsters and they were so fast and so prone to getting into nooks and crannies that letting them on the table or couch, not to mention floor was always a risk. Like, they would jump off of things or get stuck. Do your hamsters run freely around all the time? Or are those photos staged? Like, do you put your hamster next to a plate of food for a few seconds and then catch it & put in the cage again? Or are they really allowed to roam? Aren't you afraid they'll hurt themselves or you accidentally hurt them? I have so many questions!! *To be fair, my first hamster was pretty smart and we let her run around the couch daily, some days she got to run the floors. On the couch we had to stop her from falling of, on the floor - from climbing the fridge and then falling of...

I loved seeing this. When I was a kid, over the years I had a total of 6 hamsters. Things certainly have changed with the level of attention and interaction people now have with these little cuties. I would love to have a hamster, but I have a cat.

I loved seeing this. When I was a kid, over the years I had a total of 6 hamsters. Things certainly have changed with the level of attention and interaction people now have with these little cuties. I would love to have a hamster, but I have a cat.
