As an android user in the US, I have the same question. I do not understand why there are so many apple users. And when I ask individuals why they use apple, they don't know either. I suspect herd mentality.

Not just US people. I once wrote on Czech website that I think iPhones are overpriced, and Apple fans were screeching at Me for the next two weeks.

It's a combination of bragging rights/status symbol, and also the marketing and social pressures to have the best and newest because that's the value that you put on yourself (seriously, FU consumerism). It's the same reason people go in debt to buy a new car every 5 years while other people seem to get around just fine in 20+ year-old cars. This is not just a US thing at all; in many parts of Asia these things are much, much more elevated symbols of wealth to display. Not to mention the fact that an apple logo plays the same role that gems and precious metals have played for millennia.

It's the same in Ireland, I remember a few years back, my friend telling everyone how her dad could have picked between the best iphone and the best samsung and that he picked samsung, acting like her dad was insane or something. Also people seem to prefer to have a trashy iphone than a decent android.

I also don't understand it... I mean, sure it probably have better camera I guess? But... All people who have I-phone I know.... their phone si useless outdoor!!! I mean, If my phone will start crying because he's too cold or too hot, and then decrease battery... I will throw it into the trash bin no matter the price! Even my most cheapest phones I had never did this!

im in the US and I dont understand it, either. I've loved my Android OS phones for many years. I started out with prepay LG phones but actually invsted in a Samsung Note 9 when they came out and I still have the same phone. I dont understand how or why a phone can be a status symbol especially when it usually annoys others when they are used in a crowded area.

Easy... apple marketed to schools (at a very low cost when they were about to go bankrupt) and children became accustomed to apple products. That's why. They got brainwashed early. Smartest thing apple ever did.

I am from Germany. Most Germans prefer no name phones because of the prize. Biggest name smartphone here is Samsung. I have experience with nearly every smartphone there is, because of my work. Still, I prefer my iphone. It is smarter in my opinion. I would never buy the latest one tough. Until recently I had the iphone 7.

Be thankful we live in a world of capitalism. If the entire world were socialism, you would call yourself lucky to have a land line that worked some of the time.

I think is just a trendy thing and a thing on preference. I used to be a BB user, but transferred over to the land of Android. I was gifted an Apple Tablet and it's not too bad - I do like the feature of drawing with an Apple Pencil.

In a disgusting show of greed, Apple actually adds extra technology to their cables so your equipment knows if you’re using a real Apple cable or a knockoff — and then it won’t work with the knockoff. Of course the real Apple cables can be $40 or more while the knockoffs a more realistic $2 or $3.

It's a status symbol in China as well. Funny thing is, I have a Huawei P30 Pro and it's the best phone I have ever owned. That's saying a lot since I was an iPhone fan since the second-gen 3G model. My wife just got the iPhone 12 six months ago and it is NOT superior to my P30 Pro. In fact she hates all the changes that took place since her iPhone 7 but is getting used to it.

I don't get it because I hate Apple mobile products. I'm no longer even impressed with their computers.

Not from the US, but I work in a field where I'm constantly on social media and making content for it as well. I can't say that the iPhone has the best camera, but it has the best features for me at least. It's easy to transfer images between my phone - MacBook - iPad in seconds and thats helpful when I'm busy editing something and have multiple apps open. Also, I don't care about the logo being seen, I use silicon protective cases. I buy multiple and change it according to my mood. My phone has fallen off my bed more than 50 times and often when I'm travelling. I even dropped it in the Dead Sea once! Phone cases are cheap in India (where I'm from) and I buy fancy ones from Wish.

Considering I usually break phones like they're made from spun glass, I'll stick to my Huawei. Had this one for nearly 3 years, and the only reason why I bought it was because I accidentally ran over the last one. It was fairly cheap and does the job.

I don't have an apple phone for these reasons. It's disgusting.

I hear a lot of people saying that the problem with [insert x here] is capitalism. I think the issue here, and in a lot of cases is not capitalism, but consumerism. I don't care what country you are in - young, old, democracy, socialist, monarchy, etc - the problem of consumerism is in all of them. Capitalism is an economic tool (https://www.investopedia.com/terms/c/capitalism.asp) for how a market works. The obsession consuming is not only seen in the US, and to assume it is falls so short of the actual problem. It seems to me that by being able to point the figure at the "other" only helps in staying blind to our own faults and failures. From this, we can never become better as individuals or as a highly complex global society.

Sweeping generalizations don’t help anybody, four out of five of my friends do not have Apple products, so not everybody in the US has “a huge obsession with Apple phones.” It’s funny that do you think it’s just a status symbol because quite frankly talking to my friends who have Apple phones I can qualify the difference, their phone conversation doesn’t cut in and out all the time, transferring data from one phone to another is not a hassle. Also I live in a very hilly area and a lot of the non Apple iPhones don’t get the reception that Apple phones do, so I think you’re oversimplifying things.

Its a status symbol but its also a social identity. You now belong to a group of successful creative people who only settle for the best and are able to do things a normal person just wouldn't understand. Its like being the fan of a football team and paying $150 for a jersey or joining a motorcycle club with your $40K bike. You can wear that $20 oxford shirt more places and a $10k car will allow you to take the family along but you are paying for an identity. It then becomes a self-serving community. Its no coincidence that iMessage, iAnything is not friendly to other environments because it forces you to stay inside the Apple bubble or lose everything you have accumulated.

It's all about the apple ecosystem. Once you have one apple product it makes sense to buy all your other stuff from apple. Nothing more frustrating than trying to get apple, windows and android to interact. I started with an Ipad over 7 years ago because, despite the price, I genuinely believed, and still do, that the competition does not match its performance. From that point onwards, it just did not make any sense anymore to buy another windows or android powered laptop, desktop or phone when they needed replacement.
