With countless occupations and professions people do in this world, it’s easy not to know much about how a day at work looks for everyone else except you.
In that sense, we know very little about what doctors, journalists, firefighters, truck drivers and all the others really do while on duty.
So Bored Panda created this list of pictures that show the invisible side of different jobs we don’t get to see often, if ever. The photos from on duty speak stories without any words, so pull your seat closer and enjoy the ride!

A Dog I Knew In My Last Job. My Job Was To Receive And Redistribute Things Like Food, Medication, Clothing, Blankets And Toys To People Who Need It
"The absolute perfect job probably doesn’t exist," Christine Mitterbauer, a licensed and ICF-approved career coach and serial entrepreneur, told Bored Panda in an interview. Having said that, she believes that it’s possible to get a job that is 90% perfect.
"Where most people go wrong, however, is by thinking they can achieve this in a few months, whereas especially if they’re looking for a career change, you need to think long-term and be willing to work hard to achieve this," Christine explained.
She added that even in a fantastic job, there will be bad days or even weeks. "So you always need to keep the big picture in mind, as well as get clarity on what work values are most important to you."
Sometimes Working Night Shifts Has Rewards

We also wondered why our society puts so much importance on careers while we know that it leads to burnouts or our lives being put on hold.
Christine explained that it’s maybe because for decades, people did work just to survive: “after wars and economic downturns, people are happy to have a job that puts food on the table.” But as things have improved, she argues, “people expect more from their job than simply a pay check, you could say it’s a result of how well we’re doing overall.”
To The Karens That Can't Wear Masks. I Have Asthma And Work 13-Hour Shifts In This
We need to do something about your attitude! Can I speak to your manager???
My 82 y/o mother with COPD, who just had a lobectomy (partial lung removal) and was able to wear a mask. There is zero excuse for those idiots out there saying they 'can't' wear one.
The maskoutrage was the most infuriating thing for me during the worst of the pandemic, beaten only by the TP wars playing out in supermarkets.
I didn't understand the whole TP thing - covid is respiratory, not gastro...
Load More Replies...When covid first came out and we were told to wear masks i wore this going to the shops. Old people in the shops were saying it's only a faze! Yeah right luv, i'd rather be safe. Plus it looks pretty cool when buying cat food and wine in it !!
life is only a phase, then you get covid and die? that kind of phase they meant?
Load More Replies...I was in a doctor's office. A lady refused to wear her mask over her nose. Took a fit over it yet. Can't you see I'm on oxygen? And the air is going from the little tube straight into her nose yet. Her husband just shook his head & walked away. I said loud enough for him. I told my daughter, that's okay, if someone with COVID comes in, that lady is most likely to catch with her mask not being on properly. Most likely to die from it due to her COPD. The husband had a bit of a smirk on his face.
Seriously thinking of changing my name, sick of the Karen s**t! Used to like my name :-(
Ugh, can we be done with the Karen meme already?! My name is Karen. I work in healthcare and took COVID seriously to protect myself, my family, my coworkers, and my patients. I wear a mask all day, 5 days a week, and, I continue to keep masks handy for going into stores, etc. Maybe, if we have to continue using a proper name to designate those who are unreasonable in the face of all logic, we could use lowercase letters. Then it could be a descriptor like "jerk", or "@$!hole", etc... thanks for entertaining my rant. - Karen (not a karen)
Just because somebody can't wear a mask doesn't make them a Karen. And just because you have asthma and can wear an industrial mask all day doesn't mean that other people can.
That ist right. There are different stages of asthma. For example, I only have a very small lung volume and if I wear a mask, I damage my health because the carbon dioxide level in the blood gets too high. First I break out in a sweat, then panic and nausea, then severe shortness of breath and then I pass out. I hate Karens, because everybody think i am one, because i can't wear a mask.
Load More Replies...The title, "To The Karens That Can't Wear Masks" implies that this is directed at women. What are male 'Karens' called?
Yet the filters all seem to be pink on all the industrial respirators like that
Load More Replies...As a Real Karen, I do wear masks, either to not breathe toxic chemicals, dust or some a******e's illness. Wore a mask during covid. No worries.
I continue to fight against using the word "Karen" as a racist and sexist stereotype. Why can't people just say an entitled person? I mean there are words like this for people who are black, Chinese, English, you name it. So why would I get banned for using one of those, but upvoted for using this one? It's because the target is a middle aged white woman, and it's not cool to stand up for that demo right now.
And unlike the masks most of us wore, these actually can cause breathing issues for those with conditions like asthma
What job do you get to do, that makes you wear so much safety equipment? I like learning about jobs I never knew existed?
I couldn't do that, not for 5 minutes, same as dentists ire dokters with masks on all day. Not fir me and i can't wear a hat either. Its not for everybody and i would run away it total scare . Good for you its possible
Ah, a N-95 respirator. I know them well. Not entirely comfortable, but better than athsma or permanent lung damage any day. If you are spraying anything like paint, chemicals, etc., and can smell it, you should be wearing a respirator.
Well, I don't like wearing a mask that A.) does nothing to stop the virus and is basically worthless B.) gives off toxic silicone particles that are going to cause a lot of people major respiratory problems down the road C.) is not the same as what you are wearing, which is a true mask and not a freakin' joke, and D.) is a symbol of government tyranny and overreach into our private lives. GOT IT?
Well, I do not have asthma and I don't like being told to wear a mask that A.) does absolutely NOTHING to stop the virus, B.) is not the same as the industrial mask you wear, which is much more comfortable [I wear one for work sometimes when painting], C.) gives off silicon particles that stick in the lungs and are going to cause lots of people severe respiratory problems down the road and D.) are a sign of government overreach, lying, and tyranny. GOT IT??
What about the Susan's who don't wear masks that are not suited for purpose?
F**k you and your asthma. You have no right to force me to wear those useless masks.
😂😂😂 the mask nonsense hasn’t aged well! Plenty of studies proving the face diaper doesn’t work. And who’s been walking around with a respiratory like in the picture? No one!!!
And now here we are 2 years later, and the masks y'all so adamantly declared to be SOOOOOOOOO essential and so important, are now rarely seen. And the sickness y'all screamed would destroy the world isn't even mentioned anymore. Don't you think it's time to admit y'all were wrong about the masks?
Most of my manual labor jobs over the years required either a N-95 (the ones everyone on the planet now knows) and respirators. I had absolutely no patience with any whinging about masks during Covid.
These are just a liiiitle bit better than those fabric ones... Just a liiiitle bit...
"To the Karens" you say . . . cannot males be Karens too . . . and if so, what pejorative name do you call them?
This is a legit question. What are the males who behave like "Karens" being called?
Dude the masks were useless, it's a proven fact. You look more like a Karen than you think
Does anyone wonder, now we all agree that cloth masks were useless, how much death we caused by telling elderly and vulnerable people it was safe to go about their business in public as long as they wore a mask? I sure do. I get triggered by this topic 😄
Any health care worker would disagree with you. Why do you think health care workers wear mask while treating covid patients.
Load More Replies...Is that respirator fit tested by your industrial hygienist every 6 months? Are the cartridges changed on schedule? Do you wear it at home around your family? Do you eat in the company of other people? I think the answers to these questions are enlightening as to why masks were of... uh... limited effectiveness. It's worth comparing with Japan, where mask compliance was almost 100%. And their cases per million are similar to the US 270k vs. 304k. Let the partisan downvotes commence!
imma give a karen a gas mask the next time a karen yells abt masks lol
I have a friend who has asthma due to psychological causes. He was repeatedly and systematically raped as a child. Now he gets panic attacks and asthma attacks while wearing the mask. Not all people are the same and not all who don't wear a mask are Karens. But I am happy for you that your health situation allows you to wear a mask. So you were lucky and never faced reprisals because you can't wear a mask. Congrats..
Asthma is caused by inflammation in the lungs. It's not psychological.
Load More Replies...What a load of c**p- the real bigots are the people who refused to wear mask and endangered the lives of others.

In fact, “You could argue that some people now expect too much from their jobs (aka happiness and fulfillment), and they might be wise in considering whether they could achieve more happiness and fulfillment from other parts of their lives too.”
The main signs that a person is happy at work can come down to asking yourself these questions, according to Christine. “Are you able to switch off over the weekend and not think of work? Do you even look forward to Monday morning? Do you feel work is getting the best out of you?”
What makes someone happy at work is very individual, Christine said, but often a mix of being stimulated, supported, rewarded, and having great colleagues and bosses.

If there’s anything the worldwide pandemic taught us, it's rethinking our priorities and values in life, including our work and life balance. Many employees switched to partially or fully remote work, while others quit en masse, which caused the Great Resignation.
In a previous interview with Bored Panda, Dr. Gleb Tsipursky, the best-selling author and CEO of Disaster Avoidance Experts, explained that the Great Resignation is a phenomenon that began in 2021, where a large number of people across various industries and countries decided to voluntarily leave their jobs.
“This mass exodus from the workforce was primarily driven by a combination of factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic, changing work-life balance expectations, and increased demand for higher wages and better working conditions.”

The pandemic prompted many workers to reevaluate their priorities, leading them to seek out more fulfilling and flexible work opportunities. Additionally, government stimulus packages and unemployment benefits provided a safety net for some people, enabling them to take time to reconsider their career paths.
