Digging up obscure facts isn't just fun. Turns out, it's also good for our mental health. For example, experts say that playing trivia games can provide a dopamine rush much like gambling, but without the negative effects.

Even if our trivia games differ, the benefits are there. Whether we're playing Trivial Pursuit at home or attending a pub trivia night, the basic premise remains the same: we experience the thrill of providing correct answers to questions about lesser-known facts.

"You get a rush or a neuroreward signal or a dopamine burst from winning,” John Kounios, Ph.D., professor of psychology and director of the doctoral program in applied cognitive and brain sciences at Drexel University in Pennsylvania, told Healthline. “I think whenever you’re challenged with a trivia question and you happen to know it, you get a rush. It’s sort of like gambling.”

When an elephant from a herd dies, the other elephants surround it in a circle, paying tribute. Elephants from other herds will often join if they had "met" on the trek to find water as they remember the scents of other elephants their entire lives. Having known a few elephants in my life I truly believe that they know the souls of people they love. Just my opinion. I think they felt his death and needed to honor him. There are many exceptional documentaries about elephants on PBS, Animal Planet, Blue Planet, and Nat Geo.

Kounios said the benefits can also be similar to those of playing a video game.

However, unlike gambling and even video games, Kounios said trivia is generally not a problematic habit.

“I don’t think there are any pitfalls,” he said. “Like anything else that’s fun, it takes up time.”

Over the past decade or so, pub trivia nights that are popular in the United Kingdom appear to have grown in other parts of Europe and the United States.

Enthusiasts like Kishler enjoy getting to interact with people at these events, especially compared to electronic trivia games.

She has learned that doing well at these social trivia games gives her "a feeling of validation" and increases her self-esteem.

However, Kounios said that people aren’t necessarily better at trivia games just because they’re more educated.

"Some people soak up facts,” Kounios added. "Plenty of people with a lot more education may not remember what they had for breakfast yesterday morning."

"In typical people, my observation, not backed up by any research, is that their interest in trivia is confined to topics that they are generally interested in. So if a person is very interested in history, then they may either seek out history trivia, or they might just naturally pick it up in the course of learning about nontrivial aspects of history."

During the Holocaust in Greece, the entire, 275-person Jewish population of the island of Zakynthos was not deported after Mayor Loukas Karrer and Bishop Chrysostomos (1890–1958) refused Nazi orders to turn in a list of the members of the town's Jewish community for deportation to the death camps. Instead they secretly hid the town's 275 Jews in various rural villages and turned in a list that included only their own two names. The entire Jewish population survived the war.

I'm a chronic pain patient with debilitating spine issues. After having been infertile for over 11 years, I miraculously became pregnant in 2020 just after undergoing spine surgery. I worried how my body would handle pregnancy but surprisingly, my pain was greatly reduced, my inflammation was reduced, and I had increased mobility. Now if only they could replicate the conditions of pregnancy that are so beneficial. They say that your blood volume almost DOUBLES while pregnant and they think it helped increase oxygen/decrease inflammation which kept my pain down while pregnant. Just fascinating, though!

This also works when you put them into flocks with sheep, they'll even fend off wolves to protect their fluffy friends.

Both killed by men who were acquitted of the murder? That would only make sense if they later admitted it after trial or something but that's not the case in these two murders, they both remain unsolved.

Sorry but this is actually nonsense, this story does not appear in any scholarly texts or the canon and appears te be an internet age fabrication. The consensus is that it represents a metaphor for enlightenment. Monks have shaven heads, but according to legend, when the Buddha cut his hair, the uncut portions snapped into these curls and he never had to cut his hair again.

During those 13 years: “Anderson went on with his life. He met his wife, LaQonna. They married in 2007. Anderson founded a company (Anderson Construction and Investment) and led a normal life. He registered his business, he voted, he renewed his driver's licence all using his full name and address. His lawyer at the time told him that the state of Missouri would discover their mistake and that it was their job to find him. He told Today that he began to think "Maybe they just wiped the slate clean.”

I don't think "pretending" and "can kill you" should be in the same sentence when referring to cats. Cause most of the time, there is no pretend. They WILL kill you...majestically.

Don't buy that kind of dog, it's also incredibly inbred (hence the many toes and that it nearly got extinct twice). Adopt a sweet mutt from a local shelter instead, many pitties and other dogs are still looking for a home.

Baby snakes are MORE dangerous than adults, because when they bite they release ALL their venom (unlike adults, which only release a portion of venom in case they need to bite more than once)
