To most of us, cleaning is a chore. Something we do just because we have to. So we try to optimize the process as much as possible. Get it done in the fastest way possible, with the least amount of energy required.

However, some people probably haven't picked up a vacuum cleaner or a dust wand in their entire life.

There's a private Facebook group with a pretty self-explanatory title, called 'Things designed by people who don't have to clean them', and it has about 40,000 members, all sharing pictures of objects that absolutely terrify Monica Geller and Adrian Monk. From an amethyst sink to a dollhouse PC case, continue scrolling and check them out for yourself.

I really don’t think paint would have been used. Probably resin moulded furniture which is the same materials used in most tank ornaments.

A 500L tank? Hahahahaha. A 473 Litre (125 US G.) tank is 182.9cm (72")long by45.7cm (18") wide by 53.3cm (21") tall and weighs 93Kg (206 lbs) empty. A gold fish (or 6) doesn't need a tank that big.

Wow!! According to a google search, they're supposed to have a 20 gallon tank because goldfish can grow up to 2 feet in size( depending on species). That 20 gal tank is only sufficient for 2 fish. So, at 10 gal per fish you'd need a 60 gal tank for 6 of them. About half the size this person said, but far larger than most goldfish bowls sold. I knew goldfish could grow to the size of their environment and thought everyone kept them in small bowls to prevent that. What I didn't know is that not all goldfish grew to be huge if allowed to.

The founder of the group, Will Feetham, created it out of his passion for the design world. "We spend most of our time in spaces designed by other humans, and sometimes subtle careless decisions during [the design process and construction processes] cause a huge amount of hassle for the people that use the space," Feetham told Bored Panda.

Currently, the group is private and you have to answer a few political questions to get in. Feetham has had pushback from the applicants about this as the group seems anything but political, however, he believes that the design and maintenance of our spaces are deeply political. "The entire point of 'Things designed by people who don't have to clean them' is that those who design and those who maintain are not the same," he said. "Because we spend most of our time in spaces [designed by others], this disconnect has a huge impact, especially on those who traditionally don't have power in society."

"Looking at bad design helps highlight the importance of good design, and thinking about who will clean what we design makes us focus on the importance of inclusion in the design process. As a tag group, we can inject a bit of thought about these issues into a lot of different conversations which makes me so happy."

If we were to get specific, Feetham got the idea for the group from a picture of a topographical relief sink modeled after a lake, which he has been told is in the California state library. "It's beautiful, and the concept is both insightful and educational. In the execution, though, the designer didn't consider the people who would have to clean the installation. Clearly, a lot of thought went into the concept, but that thoughtfulness doesn't seem to have extended to maintenance. 'Things designed by people who don’t have to clean them' just popped into my head."

As you could guess, Feetham himself doesn't like cleaning. "As a cisgender man in our patriarchal culture, I have been allowed to do less than my share of household chores at many points in my life," he said. "Equality is deeply important to me, and I have come to understand the many ways, large and small, that the caring and cleaning work that forms the foundation of our daily existence is minimized."

According to him, our society tends to devalue the invisible service class, who are often women and people of color. So they are left to pick up the pieces, literally, and tend to the performative aesthetics of our consumer culture.

Feetham describes the content of the group as design-focused critical analysis. Some of the things that get submitted a lot are carpets in places it shouldn't be, crafts that involve gluing shells and rocks, and impossible to clean windows. "The start of the group was more focused on public infrastructure, but we also have a lot of content about consumer goods and home decor that create a maintenance nightmare."

How is this supposed to be a decanter at all? A decanter is supposed to give the wine more surface so it can react with oxygen, That doesn't work when it's just a complicated but narrow bottle.

A decanter is created to let tree he wine "breathe", so it should be wide with quite a big body to provide a bigger surface. At least that's what I learned. These creepy things defeat that purpose

When lights like these were popular years ago, they got cleaned maybe twice a year or less. And I’m talking even in my mother’s generation, when women were primarily housewives, and had all day every day to clean (and cook, and take care of kids and hubby).

There's more than alcohol and water in hard liquor. From things that stains to sugar, you also have to clean shot glasses. I complain everytime my husband forgets to clean his. Once the thing actually glued itself to the counter (probably the dried sugar or whatever that ran down on the outside of the glass)

I think it's a fantastic way to repurpose books that were almost certainly headed to the dump. Some books just don't get bought, think "How to operate a blackberry for dummies, 2005". I've seen this type of think online and the books could be covered in shellac or lacquer of some kind. The worst part of this is that it weighs a TON.

Have you ever cleaned a handrail ? They not only get dusty, they get dirty. While a paintbrush is great for the dust you are going to need something stronger for all the dirt and oils from hands.

During a performance in a large fancy house, a fellow thespian knocked over a loose decoration like this (but smaller) when coming down the stairs onto the stage. Luckily, I was playing the maid. I came on stage quickly at a suitable point, picked up the decoration, tutted and rolled my eyes as an aside & got a chuckle from the audience.

The parts you touch won't collect dust. The parts you don't touch don't need to be clean as a surgeon's tools anyway, so ... just ... just ... live with it and end of ...? Might work very well. Also, a house in general isn't a sterile area - a little dust, as long as it really is a little, wouldn't bother me much.

That's not a handle, it's an ornamental baluster. Under what circumstances would it be touched? I mean it would be a pain in the ass to polish, but a simple feather duster is all that would be needed most of the time. Or maybe some lysol of you felt someone touched it.

You guys never had crochet stuff like that on you grandma's ir something? Pretty common (except for the flower). It is usually a set there's the toilet rug and the shower/bath rug (outside the shower) as well and or a rug to be in front of the sink. Then you go and wash it all in your normal weekly cleaning. This piece would be cleaner than the rugs.

Why would it be cleaner? You are supposed to CLOSE the lid before flushing! Otherwise all those dirty water particles (including whatever you dumped in the toilet) will fly free in the bathroom, settling on everything. Imagine your toothbrush in that bathroom. That's just gross!

I've had a similar coffee mug - not that hard to clean with hot, soapy water & a small brush, plus being gentle. You do have to at least rinse them immediately after using, can't let them sit & get dried out but a good soak with hot water usually solves that.

Soap, water, a soft brush, rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Statues in parks are often made of solid bronze, they resist all weather and time throughout the ages. Why so many no nothing about caring for these objects.

I wonder what type of stone it is. Not all types of stone are suitable for this use - anything lime-based will be impossible to properly clean off limestone; you'll either have the limestone build up, or remove it and thereby dull and eventually wear away the surface of the actual stone.

This would work for outside. All those rocks would make it too heavy to easily move from inside to clean it, you'd have to pick them all out into a bucket each time. Hard pass from me.

That's an old wives' tale - if your cast iron is seasoned properly, the seasoning is polymerized oil - the surfactants in soap can't wash it off.

You dont clean cast iron with soap!!!!! Might as well bury the thing. For those wondering it ruins the pan and will cause rust.

OK, if you are going to bake something in this, first put oil or butter in it, put it in the oven until the butter melts and THEN pour in the batter. The batter will "fry" in the oil and NOT stick to the pan. I do this when I bake cakes and the cake NEVER sticks to the pan. BUT you NEVER use soap on an iron pan UNLESS you season it again. When I use my iron frying pan, I pour out the grease, use the spatula to remove anything "stuck", and then wipe it with paper towels until totally "dry" and put it in a hot oven, leave it for about ten minutes. Turn off the heat and leave it until it cools. Take it out and wipe it down again and voila, clean and sanitary.

I have cleaned many grungy pipes before & had 3 or 4 over the years like were curved just like that. I never liked alcohol to clean them. It leaves an after taste, in my opinion, ever after repeated rinsing. I used to use oxiclean powder for a bit since it didnt leave residue but have moved on from glass bowls. Too many people have broken way too many on me. I use silicone now. Its easier to clean & cheaper to replace if needed. Plus i can have hubs use the air pressure hose at work to clean the hard to reach areas...but yeah, boiling hot water, dish soap, pipe cleaners, & some spare time was all i did for a long time. Never had an issue. Most times, a low boil would clean most of the twirls before i even needed the pipe cleaner
