My Dad Died On December 15, 2016. Today, I Got A Tattoo
This is perfect. I have a tattoo of my Dad's handwriting from the last birthday card he wrote to me for my 18th birthday. We had to cut and chop the words at the end from different cards I'd kept because he had a habit of being a sarcastic twit. I miss that man
My father passed sept 15 2005 and I have to say when I looked at this picture of ops father my heart skipped a beat. He looks exactly like my Daddy. Crazy. Great tattoo
My Cat, Meonji, By Yeonno In Hongdae, Seoul Korea. It's My First Tattoo Ever And Took 11 Hours
Respect, but nevermind the cat...this is an artist that can get eyes right. Flock to them...
Load More Replies...This is my tattoo! I actually got a tattoo of my other cat, Olive, by the same artist. So far these tats are holding up really well, but I'm totally committed to touch ups every few years. And I'm def gonna have these printed up and framed at some point. Thank you for all the kind words! I got this tattoo after Meonji had been very sick and I thought I was gonna lose her. I never want to forget her face. https://www.reddit.com/r/tattoo/comments/ni9lr0/my_kitty_olive_done_by_yeonno_in_seoul_south/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
I have a tortie cat who looks just like this. They are such awesome cats. :)
Load More Replies...When thinking about inking your skin, it's important to understand what you're getting yourself into. "I would say one of the most common misconceptions about tattooing perhaps would be the time it takes to design and perform a tattoo," Young told Bored Panda.
"I think to the inexperienced customer, they can, a lot of the time, assume we are able to just 'knock up' a quick design and unfortunately, the line 'the tattoo should only take half an hour' is thrown in quite a lot."

Wildflowers By Jing From Jing's Tattoo Studio In Flushing, NY
That's what I want to know too - what does it look like in 10, 20, 30 years??
Load More Replies...I'm SO curious about how those delicate colors age. Not that I don't expect they'll still look awesome.
Black, dark blue, and grey last the longest. If they don't keep it covered the flowers will fade out within five ywars

My Brother, My Sister And Me (Triplets) Finally Decided To Get Our First Tattoo
It still makes awkward meetings with the preacher at church as you lift the shirt of your 26 year old daughter to check her tattoo to make sure its not your son.
Load More Replies...Cute tattoo idea but... Under no circumstances would I pose topless, sandwiched between my shirtless brothers like some racy Calvin Klein ad from the 90s.
Maybe the don't mind as they already shared the womb together, naked
Load More Replies...Pretty sure we could have seen her tattoo clearly if she’d worn a bra or crop top. That’s just a bit too weird being topless between her own brothers.
Ok, I'm quite over seeing this comment. Number one she's not completely bare-breasted. She has something covering herself. Number two I'm sure there were plenty of cultures in the past that weren't so obsessed with a woman covering herself up. Oh yeah, those cultures still exist. Americans are so quick to shame a woman to death for the nerve to show a little side boob. I don't hear you saying anything about the two brothers next to her and judging them.
Load More Replies...I like it! Your mom probably thinks oh yeah I should have done this years ago!
I think the people who think that the pose is weird are a little weird themselves. (Probably mostly from the USA - they seem to have the oddest hang-ups about the human body)
Young is guessing that it could stem from flash sheet days, "where you could just pick off the wall and get it done quite quickly. Or perhaps it comes from watching 'reality' tattoo shows that are cut to show the design, set up, and execution done in half an hour."
Either way, the artist thinks people should invest a bit of patience to educate themselves rather than meet these assumptions and misconceptions with frustration.
Golden Balloon Dog Made By Me, Pony Lawson At My Shop Mayday! Tattoo Co In Chicago
My daughter wants this one too. Next to the raccoon. Guess I have to stop scrolling down now, don't want to give her any more ideas. Don't want to have discussions for the next ten years until she is 18 and old enough to decide for herself. .....
actually that is probably the perfect age to start talking about it cause children are just learning that everything has consequences. i started talking about it at 10yrs and now i only want 1 tattoo and it means something to me.
Load More Replies...Very clever detailing to give the gold look, as gold tattoo ink doesn't exist.
It's 100% Koons inspired. Now let's see if the artist will try and sue cuz he is an A hole that has tried sueing multiple people even though lots of his artwork are everyday objects but big and shiny.
Load More Replies...Sadly, it probably won't be shiny for much longer once the hair grows back... 🤔
Load More Replies...I was shocked with how realistic that gold made it look, then saw pony did it, explains everything! Pony is a legend

Rose? No problem, what style: black & gray, traditional, realistic? Yes.
Each style is very well executed, but it's not doing anything for me otherwise.
I think I've seen this same picture on the Internet before. I'm always happy to see this beautiful tattoo again :)
My Little Trash Cat By Zzizziboy In Seoul, South Korea
Damn, my 8 year old daughter just saw this and wants this. And I completely understand....
Apparently this thread is 8 months old? I'm going to comment anyway. You can buy sticker sheets or even temporary tattoos as printer paper and print off a dozen of these for $10-15 where I live (Canada). Maybe look into it! I bet it would make a great little gift for her.
Load More Replies..."Another common misconception would be the pain aspect," Young added. "Yes, the procedure can be painful, but the body is incredibly resilient and everyone is surprised at their own pain tolerance.
"We as humans are capable of sitting through huge amounts of trauma and so when anyone mentions they wouldn't be able to sit for a tattoo, I would encourage them to just give it a bash and they will be pleasantly surprised at their own tolerance."
Fish Bones, Done By Trevor Varem, Mission Tattoo Parlour, Calgary Alberta
Damn. I had the same scar, but on top of my foot - why didn't I think of that?
Trigger Warning for following post! (And that's a really cool tattoo, prolly my favorite that I've seen!)
I have a cousin that had a zipper tattoo over a knee surgery scar, it was cute.
Hmmm..... hubby actually has a very similar scar.... wonder if he'd be willing?
That's a pretty good idea for incorporating the scar into the artwork! 😁
Scar “Cover Up” I Did The Other Day. Now She’s Got Her Best Friend Looking Back At Her :) Done Be Me - Adam Makharita (@adamdeanart) At Dot. Creative Group In NYC
What a positive message! That good doggo doesn't want you to hurt
That's a goodest boy (girl?) ever! I was going through a horrible time with depression and anxiety. Not proud of this, but I had self mutilation/cutting behaviors and was almost hospitalized. I adopted a 9 month old kitten from the local pound. My beautiful ball of fluff helped me in ways no person had been able to. With him at my side and in my lap and with proper medical treatment and medication regimen I got better. It will be 2 years next month and while I still have days that I'm depressed or anxious it's never gotten to that point again. Maverick has been a wonderful friend, companion, listener, psychologist, and fuzz therapist! I love you, my fuzzy faced menace!😽❤️
I am so glad you're doing better and that you have your fluffy friend supporting you!
Load More Replies...That tattoo is so cute! I recently (yesterday, roughly) reached my one year anniversary of no cutting/self harm! :D
Oh my gosh congratulations!! I'm so happy for you :D

My Arm, Done Today In One 8 Hour Sitting By Hannah Flowers Of No Regrets In London UK. What’d Ya Think?
I agree, though the lower lip looks like a butt
Load More Replies...It's a beautiful tattoo, but why does it look so pristine the day it was done? Don't tattoos look red and a bit swollen on day one? Just curious here
You are correct. It wasn't done 'today', whenever today was and it likely wasn't done in one eight hour setting.
Load More Replies...Tattoo By Alba, Long Story Tattoo, Prague | Artwork By Mahdieh Farhadkiaei, Iran
It is cool! I like your profile picture, Demon Slayer was a cool anime.
Load More Replies...That is amazing, but be careful dude, even though there is no specific law against tattoos in Iran as far as I know, you and the tattoo artist could get a lot of s**t for a tattoo. I remember many tattoo artists did these secret tattoos a while back, but now I am not sure if they can run a business with getting harassed. Even the artist can get harassed because they live in Iran, especially as the image promotes LGBTQIA+, something that can be punished by a death sentence over there.
The artwork (the drawing) was made in Iran, the tattoo was made in Prague. Though your point is completely true and the artist should be careful, unfortunately
Load More Replies...The most important thing first-timers should concentrate on, according to the tattoo artist, is comfort. "If the customer is not comfortable and relaxed, then usually it sets the precedent for how well they sit during the tattoo procedure," Young highlighted.
"Too many times I've seen first-timers hella nervous and not made to feel relaxed and instead of excited, they are fearful, and don't actually sit very well or enjoy the whole experience. It is a tattooist's responsibility to ensure that they are not only providing the very best tattoo for the client but making it the most enjoyable experience too."

I like the floral antlers and somehow wouldn't thought, that they would Do such an Art (not because they couldn't but because it is a 'waste' on Ressources which have to be much harder to gather then)
Now My Birth Mark Is An Actual Wine Stain

I have to say, I see a fire of some kind in that pattern. Maybe a meteor, or maybe a kiln? But this is pretty clever.

for those of u who might not be familiar with the definition, it means the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity. or smth like that
This one is going to be hard to read when it fades, unfortunately. Maybe that's some of the appeal.
Not necessarily. The letters are big with helps as the ink starts to blob. I have tattoos that are 20 years old and are still legible due to how the letters are big and are spaced.

I want one exactly like this BP read my mind! It's because of my real name, I love bees
same! my name is debbie and it literally means bee so i like to be called that
Load More Replies...I love, love bees!!! Planted pollinator gardens did them along with flower pots filled with dandelions, ( bee’s first food when they emerge in the spring). Without 🐝’s there is no humans.
Whatever is driving you to a tattoo salon, it's enoughю After all, it's your body!
"Most first-timers tend to get a tattoo for personal reasons," Young said. "I think because the tattoos tend to have far deeper meanings behind them, it encourages them to get over the fear and get it done."
"Once people start getting a lot of coverage, that's usually when the silly non-meaning tattoos tend to break out," he added, laughing.
Kiddo Created A Crazy Creature Out Of Construction Paper So I Had My Tattoo Artist Interpret It!
No one else in the world has anything like this. You've immortalised a creative moment of your child's into your body. This is beautiful in every way..
im gonna imortalize my kids creativity by getting a tattoo where ever they break a bone different colors for each kid and the tatoo is gonna be the date
Load More Replies...A random kid, or your kid? I feel like it wouldn't be as cool if some random kid did it
OP wrote “kiddo”, so I’m pretty sure it’s their own kid :)
Load More Replies...Fantastic. Everytime I see kid art made into a parental tattoo my heart jumps for joy
Has that late 80s to 90s theme to it and looks like it would be something from a themed cartoon show around that timeline.
Finally Got To Do Something Creative With My Ugly Shoulder Scar Thanks To Chris Earnhart At Arcade Tattoo, Ca
My dad had surgery after his motorcycle crash and he got a tattoo of a tire with wings and the scar is a slash through it
Load More Replies...I don't get this one..? I know its a scuba diver guy working under water and that's it..I don't see how the scar is incorporated?
Scars are never ugly, at least to me.... They show you won a battle or that you lived (to tell). These kind of tattoos that incorporate them are a great tribute.
It's not ugly. Scars are cool as hell. That tattoo is epic and creative though
My Eastern European Folk Art Tattoo With Pigeons. Done By Koral At White Rabbit In NYC
I Covered Some Gnarly 3rd Degree Burn Scars With A Fire Dragon By Adam Sky, Morningstar Tattoo, Belmont, California
I bet it was painful tho. It IS on scar tissue
Load More Replies...That is an incredibly confident and skilled tattoo artist to work with the kind of scarring. The tissue is completely different from normal skin, and that man had to have incredible pain tolerance since scars, especially burn scars, tend to be many times more sensitive than normal skin.
This one is a class on it's own... Getting tattooed on burned skin can be very painful for the the duration it takes to tattoo, but also for the tattoo artist it's hard, as it's not the easiest canvas to work with. Both these people deserve extra credits for this beautiful work of art.
I wo der if its different to tattoo such scarred tissue And if it hurts the person more
If you need reassurance, remember that industry professionals really want you to have a positive experience. "My advice would be to any first-timers, if you are not made to feel comfortable when in the tattoo shop, look somewhere else."
"We at Highwater Gallery and many good tattoo shops I know of, strive to make you as relaxed and comfortable as possible, whilst also understanding that it can be very daunting and you can be a bag of nerves coming in," the tattoo artist explained.

Load More Replies...The color is so rich and vivid! Will it stay that way? Do tattoo ink colors all fade at the same rate, or do certain colors fade more quickly than others?
Depends greatly on the skin colour and how deep the ink is. Also is affected by how much sun damage it gets... Wear your sunscreen people!
Load More Replies...I love it. The ink saturation is amazing and I really like the color choices.

First Tattoo! Clarinet Designed By My Father And Done By Pascal Guimond At Sinister Skin In Port Moody Bc
It really is... I would be like excuse me, do you really love punctuation? (I know nothing about clarinets)
Load More Replies...In Young's opinion, "cups of tea or coffee, reassuring words of encouragement, a very laid-back attitude to time frames, and a calm and relaxed approach to the process all help to create the best experience possible for you for your first tattoo."
"Tattoo shops thrive on repeat customers so they should be doing everything they can to encourage you to come back, even if getting a tattoo tends to be a little painful now and then!"

Kimono Inspired Geo/Spirograph Piece Done By @nissaco In Japan, Osaka
This is a really cool tattoo, but with these full chest/abdomen pieces that extend this far down, there is always something a tiny bit funny in the nipples and belly button being just... there. I know why that is ofc, but the visual still always makes me crack a smile.
I think the artist dud a great job with concealing the nipples in the armor. Look close. They fit in perfectly with the design. The artist probably actually started there.
Load More Replies...Now this looks awesome.... but the fine lines will blur out over the years. Just had that discussion with my tattoo artist. If outlines are to fine the will get blurry/washed very fast... Lot of these fine line concepts only look good for a couple of years and you can not really renew them too..
Whenever I see a tattoo like this I just wonder what it will look like decades later in the nursing home.

Glorious. What a beautiful collection of gorgeous tattoos. A lovely example of how tattooing - done well - can enhance even further someone's natural beauty.
kinda looks like- oh f***k I forgot the word- bodypaint often worn by Indian women?
That's really beautiful. I want a chest tattoo like this, honestly, just don't know when.
Great chest piece, so delicately done... When looking at older pictures you can't imagine not having ink done there sooner... at least that's my experience after my chest piece, is like being naked before and now not so much any more 😊
So beautiful. I wish I had the courage. I would definitely love work like this.
Done By Erin Chance At Unkindness Art In Richmond Va. Inspired By Beth Cavener’s Sculpture “All Tangled Up In You”

Fresh Pink Panther/ Tiger On The Chest By Manh Huynh At Freedom Inks, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Pink is hard to tattoo as a colour, and with zero detail in a cartoon character it would just look bobbins, being a big slab of nothing much. Whereas this way the juxtaposition between the traditional, highly-detailed, tiger and the plain-as-your-nose panther is funnier. I think. *shrugs*

Load More Replies...That looks so good! There is no way you are just an apprentice! You need to go pro for sure now.
Very nice concept and execution on the blades. I agree with Lennart that the handles don't keep up. Maybe give them an understated carving, like an elegant simple flower embossed in ivory and an elegant simple gold wave.

The Final Session Of My Green Eyed Beauty! By Henry Quiles, Til Death Tattoo, Denver
I'm beginning to think I'm blue/green color blind, but well, can't see much color in the eye.
It's not just you. It looks more like grey eyed beauty. Still pretty though... Maybe it's the lighting?

Neck Session 1. Done By Sketch At Aspired Vision In El Paso, Tx
That must have hurt a bunch because neck tattoos suck to get done.
I got a neckache just seeing the awkward position of her neck while showing it. I can't imagine how long she had to keep her head/neck in that position while getting it done! Oowwww!

Dragon Tattoo Done By @derykwebb At Confetti Club Tattoo
I love how this is done with all those colors popping out, maybe I'm nitpicking now, but I'm missing some shade underneath it to make it pop out some more.

The Wife And I Got Tattoos Of A Diagram Depicting The Position Of The Planets As They Were The Exact Time We Were Married. Izic Woodall, Holy Grail Tattoo, Lakeland, Florida
Dunno why you got downvoted for saying you think it looks like an onion. If it wasn't explained in the title, I'd probably have thought it was a cross section of a giant jawbreaker or something. The planet alignment is a really cool idea for a tattoo!

I grrrr at folks who leave little Pluto out. It’s always been a planet when I went to school….like over 40 years ago. Lol

Fresh Finished Geisha Hannya By Vinny At The American Tradition Tattoo, Sacramento Ca
I think maybe it's supposed to look like an Oni, a Japanese demon. So, maybe she's a demon in disguise? Maybe it's something deeper about true beauty-or evil-coming from within? Well, no way to know. But whichever way you look at it, it's a stunning piece!
Load More Replies...At first glance it's amazing!! I love the dichotomy of the Geisha's beauty and the Oni Demon... But wtf happened to her hand?!?!

I really like this one, also how the ragged edges on the blade are done, at least, I think that is intentional... If not, for me, this gives it the finishing touch 😉

A Complete Stranger And I Got Tattoos Of Each Others Face - By J-Cee Capilia, The Fall Tattoo, Vancouver Bc
A word from the OP in the original post on Reddit: I wanted to do an experiment to see if this would be possible to get someone to do this with me, and see if I could make a genuine friendship out of the experience! I basically just walked up to random strangers in Vancouver and asked them if they would be down. The second person I asked was Geran and he was immediately down, literally such a dope dude. The idea was we would share a bonding experience before the tattoo. So I brought him to do my favourite thing which is paintball, and he brought me to his MMA gym and we did some sparring! And then from there we went and got the tattoos! We still stay in contact and my girlfriend is actually helping him with his nutrition for his upcoming fight!

I think this is a wonderful story. I have heard worse reasons for getting a tattoo. And the tattoos look great!
This is why I'll never get a tattoo; because I know it won't end with one 🤣
My BFF warned me about this. I now have 3. She was with me for every one of them. She won’t be with me for the 4th. It will be a turtle, in memory of her.
Load More Replies...I feel that. Been trying to plan mine out for 2 years already
Load More Replies...I am concerned that some of these, especially the very fine coloured lines, won't age very well.
Let's have more posts like this!! I especially love the ones where people make their scars into tattoos! So great to see more beauty being put into the world!
Interesting. The scar coverups always give me mixed feelings. On the one hand they are gorgeous and some scars can be triggers but on the other hand a scar is a phisical representation of incredible strength. They are badges of honor and it makes me sad that some people are ashamed of them.
