Some of us are into bowling, others love traveling, nature, or rock hunting. Does that mean you collect all the bowling balls to make a giant pyramid, or gather every single mosquito you’ve ever killed, or arrange the keys of every hotel and motel you’ve ever been to? Well, for these people, it does indeed.
Meet the collectors of the most random items out there, who prove that nothing is off-limits when it comes to human curiosity.

This Is One Of Several Alphabets Assembled By Belgian Type Designer Clotilde Olyff From Stones Collected At The Beach
I already know what I will be doing come next summer. Put me on a beach and I am looking for nice stones and shells, from now on I will look for letters. Maybe you will see it written in stone.
Fun fact, æ is pronounced “Ash” (Beep boop, I am pretending to be a bot! For more info, read my bio!)

I Started Feeding Bar Nuts To These Crows That Are Regular To The Patio Of A Bar I Work At. My Collection Of Gifts Finally Started After 3 Months
They are really smart. For example, when a crow encounters a mean human, it will teach other crows how to identify the human.
Load More Replies...Crows are awesome. Don't EVER piss them off because they remember human faces...and they WILL get revenge.
Exactly. If you're kind to them, you'll get presents. If you're not kind to them, they'll tell all their friends and well--you know how a flock of crows is called a murder?
Load More Replies...cool. crows are really smart. Did you know that crows can use tools and they can solve some puzzles
There are two crows that regularly visit my balcony and often ruin the potted plants. They also sometimes leave some bones behind, clean as can be. Maybe I should start feeding them some goodies.
Best had - evidently it pays to be on their good side!
Load More Replies...It turns out, humans have always been drawn to collecting things. In the 19th century, aristocratic collectors would amass books, zoological and biological specimens, art and decorations that were all considered a status symbol.
The Victorian era gave birth to the cabinet of curiosities, which referred to space specially designed to arrange, display, and store one’s collectibles. Many of these cabinets have become the first museums that exhibited curated collections.
But the urge to collect things starts as early as our childhood. Most of us had our own little collections of keychains, stamps, or Legos. However, only a few people devote their time and effort to their collected items as they reach adulthood.

Load More Replies...My Grandfather's Pencil Sharpener Collection I Inherited
OH I have pretty much that exact globe pencil sharpener at home!!!! It's my pride and joy :D
I used to have the upright phone and the gramophone and I still have the grandfather clock =)
I love old pencil sharpeners like this, especially the unusual ones. I should start my own collection
Now THAT is something I, having a regular dislike of average knick knacks, would LOVE to inherit. They provoke conversation and memory sharing. I miss all of those little metal miniatures. We used to see them everywhere.
Oh that is incredible! I love miniatures and these are amazing sharpeners!
Perfectly Round Rocks I Found On The Beach. Bonus: Egg, Dorito, And Watermelon Rock
They are even more satisfying to the touch, especially when they are still warm from the sun and evening has come.
Load More Replies...After I met my (now) husband, a friend and I were walking on the beach at Lake Michigan. In a few hours, I picked up at least six beach stones shaped like hearts. I still have them... and my husband. xoxoxo
collectin rocks seems popular but what people do with them is very clever and diverse
For many, it offers the thrill of the hunt, which draws them in. Most collectors develop an emotional attachment to their objects where each one carries a story. Ask a record collector about their display, and they will happily tell you a two-hour-long story about the first vinyl they got their hands onto.
Nostalgia may also be the driving force of collecting, and it’s usually visible in the historical collections that require a great deal of knowledge and context.
This Is My Periodic Table Of Elements With Actual Elements
It's not the periodic table, it's a periodic cupboard, so it's safe... And I will let myself out now..
Load More Replies...Au and Ag would be the ones burglar educated in chemistry would go for.
Yeah but you also kinda don’t. If those broke you would either explode, die silently, or who knows how.
Load More Replies...This is a really beautiful way to display them! When my son was in 6th grade he wanted to be a chemist so started collecting elements. We bought a lot of them for him for gifts. We did have a few rules, and he couldn't have any that would be truly dangerous, but he got quite the collection before he discovered Tolkien and decided to become a linguist, instead. Which is what he now is (working on his Master's degree and applying to PhD programs). So now, he collects languages and grammars and also creates his own languages. That's a lot safer than collecting elements.
I am glad that the collection is not complete- I would rather not risk that
Fun fact, uranium is extremely radioactive and I’m curious as to how you aren’t slowly getting cancer from this collection! Is there certain protective wear you need to access it? How many ticks does it make on the Geiger counter? I need the facts! (Beep boop, I am pretending to be a bot! For more info, read my bio!)
This Man's Collection Of Lost Apples Varieties
There is no such thing as ugly produce, if it's edible. We need to maintain variety in our crops. The Irish Potato Famine happened because they were relying on just one strain of potato.
There are several kinds of absolutely delicious apples and also of plums that I used to eat when I was a child that are impossible to find now. Commersialization has a big cost.
If anybody near you holds a heritage apple tasting party, do go to it -- the variety in taste and texture is amazing!
America lost its apple orchards during prohibition. Authorities burned the orchards to prevent making hard cider and apple jack(moonshine) It was 1998 before hard cider hit the shelves again in the US
Load More Replies...I've been really disappointed in the apples available in the UK this year- the entire crop looks smaller. I like a semi-sweet apple with crisp texture... been finding quite a few 'mealy' ones mixed in with the 'good' :(
Over here in the Pacific Northwest (USA) too Oskar. The crying shame is we grow them for the entire United States. Not all are poor quality, I did find some amazing Fujis, but it's hit and miss.

Some Of My Favorite Arrowheads. Amazing Little Pieces Of History Collected On Our Private Property In Southern Arizona
Such a variety. I can't help but think of the people who carved these so long ago.
It's called Knapping. it's too hard to carve. Knapping is the (very fine) technique of smacking a heavy, round rock into the chunk of flint or obsidian (etc.) what's supposed to happen is a "Flake" comes off. Then using finer tuned tools, the craftsman chips off smaller and smaller bits till the Flake is the proper shape. I too wonder about the people who created these and used them as a part of their everyday life.
Load More Replies...i love collecting rocks and gems and arrow heads and bottle caps am i odd im only 10
You are not odd at all! You should ask your parents for a metal detector. I think you'd have a lot of fun with all the cool stuff you'll find.
Load More Replies...My grandmother grew up on a farm and there were many arrowheads in the field behind her. So we just have a box filled with a bunch of arrowheads.
My step dad died in 2000. He had a bunch he got from the Tennessee river in the '60's as a kid. It is illegal to do that now. No idea what happened to them.
Just think of all that history that used to be able to roam free on your now private property :(
Ironic to state "our private property" here. Unless you're Native, I think descendants of the people who crafted those arrowheads may have something to say about that.
Holding one would provoke such curiosity and wonder about history.

Load More Replies...You must be lucky. Maybe that's how you found all. You got lucky
My best friend, growing up, we used to blindfold her lead her into a field and take off the blindfold. She would bend down and pick one up. This of course after the rest of us looked in the very same spot for hours.

One time me and my friend found like 40 four and five leaf clovers in one sitting. It was incredible. Unfortunately she kept them.

My (87-Years-Old) Father's "Ugly" Golf Ball Collection
My old man, who is now pushing 90 and can't get out to play anymore, was always the guy who would hit his shot, then poke around in the woods and ponds looking for golf balls. He saved buckets of good golf balls, but his real pride and joy is his collection of "ugly golf balls". He was overjoyed any time he'd find a rotten old ball that had been hit by a mower and left to decay. The guy got a hole-in-one once, complete with a big plaque. He promptly lost that golf ball. But he invites strangers into his home to show them his ugly golf ball collection. It's the little things!

My mom had one of these....not exactly a collection. She could never throw anything away!
I Collect Rocks That Look Like Eggs
Sorry to say, but that's extremely unlikely. Firstly, "egg-shaped" is a poor strategy to find fossilized eggs to start with (their thin shell and soft interior makes it likely for them to get squished and become non-eggshaped), secondly the surface is a better indicator of identifying a fossil egg, and thirdly these look very much like granite (or something similar, am no mineralogist) which is basically "first-hand", "fresh" rock formed from slowly cooled magma and doesn't contain fossils except for VERY rare circumstances. If you want fossils you need to look for what might be thought of as "second-hand rock" or "fossilized soil" - sedimentary rock like sandstone, limestone, slate, chalk... These egg-shaped rocks here were very clearly NOT formed from sediments, so you couldn't even make polished fossil-stone eggs from them. Nothing against this collection though, neatly-formed rocks nonetheless.
Load More Replies...I love this idea, and the porcelain egg "carton" to display them in is also very nice.
That is a porcelain egg 'carton'! I love this idea. It is very decorative and it is such a nice feeling to hold smooth stones in your hand.

The Amount Of Train Tickets I’ve Collected By Commuting To University For One Year
Trains in the UK are quite expensive, but they are easier to use than driving to work towards London. Sometimes booking an uber was cheaper than paying for the train fair
Load More Replies...It's "number" of train tickets. If you can count it, use "number." If you can measure it, use "amount." (Same for "fewer" and "less." If you can count it, use "fewer." If you measure it, use "less.")
£20 a day for a journey of about 30 miles, and only to London Zone 2-3 (so not even central London), and that's an off-peak daytime rate that means you cannot travel during rush hour. No wonder people complain about the price of trains in the UK!
It would seem that they could just issue a pass and save all that paper, though.
Well....there are weekly and monthly travel cards you can get which usually work out cheaper.
Load More Replies...Serious question: Can't this be digitized so you can check in on your phone and not need a paper ticket?
Ouch, that looks expensive. Seems like you need a students ticket like here in Germany, costs 175 € per Semester for your local railway Provider.

My Parents Collect Magnets From Every Place They Visit And Put Them On The Fridge. It's Spreading To The Microwave Now
impressive! I have our fridge completely covered, and a metal sheet the same size on the wall next to it.
Me too. Note : we always try to find the ugliest magnets. By now it has become sort of a competition in our family :-)
Load More Replies...wow. That's impressive. You must have been to a lot of places. As for the TV with the green screen, I just pressed OK on my keyboard
This made me laugh as my Mam banned me from bringing her any more magnets from places I travelled too. So if course I just kept bringing them. Miss you lovely fun Mam.
Well that microwave ain't going to last much longer then, shouldn't put metal on or in a microwave, won't blow up on the outside but messes it up
That would make an interesting artwork. Acquire a large sheet of beautifully-polished stainless steel to mount on the wall. Then adorn it with all of your travel magnets. If it was large enough, add a map to the middle of the piece. Personal treasure than promotes conversation and sharing memories.
That's just kind of tacky. Put them somewhere else. And that PC monitor too, haha. And please close the drawer. AND straighten out those kitchen towels. Put those bowls away. My God, my OCD is going off right now.
Toys I Collected From My 9-Year-Old’s Pockets Over 3 Months
I wish my pockets were big enough to fit anything in them TwT
Load More Replies...Women´s pockets can´t even fit a piece of gum, and there are kids who can fit dinosaurs in theirs. I have to wear a handbag to carry my dinos...
Wow. I see that there is a few swords and a gun. Assasination attempt on the Dino maybe
I've been collecting stuff like this from my (now teenage) boys' pockets since they were little. The plan is to fill two of those glass lamps with all the junk and give one to each of them as a housewarming present when they move out someday.
Is he a budding kleptomaniac? Honestly, as innocent as this collection appears, unless you know the origin of at least 95% of them (and they belong to your family), I would be concerned. The little child to whom these belong may have lost something important to them.
I Collected Every Pair Of Shoes I Was Wearing Since 2008
I think you've found your shoe. Once you find something that work, you can never drop it. Also, I want those shoes!

This Has Been Decorating My House For Many Years. It's A Part Of My Processors Collection. I Want To Collect At Least One Representative From Each Generation
This is an oversimplification, but it allowed better heatsinking with the chip-mounting tech of the day, and allowed an easier path for connection to cash memory.
Load More Replies...I would suspect that these were collected during the mid 1990s to early 2000s, when such equipment was being disposed-of in great quantities. Much of the older stuff had gone already prior to that.

The Insane Amount Of Hats My Grandpa Has Collected
Where ever I fly fish in the world I beg, swop, buy or barter a cap as a souvenir. Had almost 400 caps and then had to trim the collection to the ones that are really special now about 200 caps. IMG-202011...e-jpeg.jpg
My dad used to have a lot of caps, but my mom has had him kind of narrow them down.
My Friend's Extensive Pringle Collection Wall
I will not eat a single one of them. "Pringles have about 42% potato content, the remainder being wheat starch and flours (potato, corn, and rice) combined with vegetable oils, an emulsifier, salt, and seasoning".

It's amazing and disgusting, the things children will accidentally ingest.... And the things that adults will purposely put inside their bodies. We (in ColoRectal Surgery) only get to see the things that get stuck!!

My Collection Of Metal Detecting Finds Ranging From 1000 BC Up To The 1950's. All Found By Myself In The Past Years. I Need More Space
I always wanted to do metal detecting... but in my region, the risk is to find a lot of ammo of WWII
I am beginning to wonder if this might be a good hobby for me. Got my mind on it now.
I had a metal detector when I was about 10, and all I ever found was old cans or bottle tops... how are people finding allt his good stuff? not fair. >.> the only cool things I found was an old horseshoe (that had no holes in so it wasn't nailed to a horse at any point, which was strange) and 2 old bullet casings.

They're on there so that the till operator knows which variety (differently priced) of that fruit.

I have to wonder how many of those stickers are swallowed every year. And if they have to be made of a biodegradable/digestible material.

At 89, she had outlived most of her friends, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, 2 of her own children and a grandchild. The oldest pamphlet we found, was handwritten and dated 1939 meaning her collection spanned 80 years. After her memorial, we placed her own pamphlet in the box with the promise that we'll keep the morbidly sweet collection going. It is now in my mother's possession, from where it one day will become mine and after me, my eldest daughter has already called debs on it.
That's sad but really sweet of you to keep her collection going.
