The Inhumans of Late Capitalism page (not to be confused with the Humans of Late Capitalism social media accounts which is a similar but entirely different horse entirely) has over 178.6k followers, all eagerly waiting for the next juicy post making fun of our dystopian everyday lives.
As many of you have probably realized by now, capitalism is far from a perfect system. But what’s the alternative? Does one even exist? Anyone who’s ever opened up a history book knows that communism isn’t an alternative—it’s just a more brutal dystopia that resulted in the deaths of millions of people. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
However, things might not be as grim nowadays as we think. For instance, Paul Mason writes in The Guardian that we might be entering the postcapitalist era without even noticing it. The forces driving this are information technology, the rise of the sharing economy, and new ways of working. Mason’s point of view is refreshing because he paints a bright and sunny picture of the future, instead of one where we’re all doomed and fighting global warming, zombies, and the plague on all fronts.
According to Mason, information technology has reduced the need for work, blurred the “edges between work and free time,” and “loosened the relationship between work and wages.” The amount we have to work will further diminish as automation increases. But that’ll still take a while because our way of thinking has yet to catch up with the power of robotics.
Mason also states that we’re “seeing the spontaneous rise of collaborative production: goods, services, and organizations are appearing that no longer respond to the dictates of the market and the managerial hierarchy. The biggest information product in the world—Wikipedia—is made by volunteers for free, abolishing the encyclopedia business and depriving the advertising industry of an estimated $3bn a year in revenue.”
In other words, we’re seeing various new forms of work, ownership, and businesses that will (in the long run) change our society as we know it. But whether or not it’ll be a postcapitalist society or something else entirely, we’ll find out in a few decades.
well my dude youtube is blocked in china so thats why they want to be astronauts
Load More Replies...It's what they know. 20 years ago those same kids would've said movie star. Bloggers are just a new generation of celebrity.
You tubers are millionaires who release content almost daily. Of course kids like them, they are kid crack with thier crazy and loud content that parents won’t ever let you do. Fill a bath try e with slime!?! Ok on YouTube! Not ok at home..lol
If you look up the actual poll that was conducted, this graphic is wildly misleading. At least part of the questionnaire was in multiple-choice format (not sure about this speicific question), and the entire thing was in partnership with a NASA camp scholarship. So it's not like these kids were asked straight up "What do you want to be when you grow up" and these were the results. "The survey also revealed that today’s children are three times more likely to aspire to be a YouTuber (29%) than an Astronaut (11%). When asked ‘which … careers are part of space exploration?’ Astronaut was the most chosen answer (90%), followed by Engineer (58%) and Computer Programmer (52%). Only seven percent of children see a role for a Farmer/Gardener in the space program, an indication that kids may not realize all of the different jobs required to support space travel." source: theharrispoll dot com
*in partnership with Scholastic to send kids to a NASA space camp on scholarship. Either way though the entire thing was based around space exploration and astronauts. Not just a random survey of children's life goals.

I’m a 12 year old American and I want to be A forensic scientist
youtubers/vloggers may not be as bad as you think, a lot of them raised millions of dollars for the Austraila bushfires. Lots of vloggers/youtubers have channels about saving wildlife. They also give homeless people houses and food, so they can live without wondering where their next meal is coming from. Lots of them cut off their hair for kids with cancer. They make money by having fun and helping animals and people, so why rain on their parade. Please don't be so quick to judge.
No one's judging youtubers here, but it's just not a realistic career goal for children to have. Very few people can become successful youtubers, the competition is rough and your only plan in life shouldn't be to become a youtuber. That doesn't mean you shouldn't have it as a goal or a dream that you work on, but you should also invest in a more stable career as a backup
Load More Replies...Both are fanciful to be honest. Only good thing about the "astronaut" option is, hopefully, the kid is willing to work hard.
I'm more encouraged that behind the dream is the need to be in one or more STEM fields to even qualify for the training. After that, you have to be in tip-top shape, you often have to be in your nation's military, or at least trained in aerospace flight. You're not just sitting in that chair. You have to know how to operate virtually everything on that ship so you can act as pilot, if other crew are injured or dead. The number of skills any one astronaut needs to know is--pardon the pun--astronomical. :-p It was one of my dreams, too: when I found out some of the requirements: mind blown. One MAJOR thing I couldn't do was the complicated math--innumeracy is a f*****g B***H to find work-arounds for. *sigh* Sciences not always needing mathematics? Good. Loved Bio. Loved the physical part of things (now, not so much). Couldn't get into the military: bad eyes & have asthma--so, washout. Done. No astronautics for me. Became an artist instead. :-p

Karl from fact fiend had a pretty good response to this. He talked about how it’s the modern evolution of the “easy/fun job” where kids want to get paid to do things they love. If you love playing soccer and you see people getting paid to play soccer, you want to be a soccer player. If you love to bake and you see people getting paid to make cupcakes, you want to be a pastry chef. Kids nowadays love playing fortnite and Minecraft, and see people like ninja making bank off of youtube, and they want to make a career out of doing what they love.
The reality being that 99.9999% of the kids wanting to be astronauts will never, ever achieve anything near their goal. As for the vloggers & youtubers, they have a far better chance of making some kind of living out of it even if they have to work a 'real' job part time.
And this is a great example of why China is powering ahead of the West!
I work with kids — and yes, a couple of them have actually said this when I asked.
youtube. is. not. a. career. so many of my classmates still don't know this...
Youtube.... It has taken over... bow down to the videos.... Youtube... COME TO ME!!!!!.......
That's it, I don't want to be on this planet anymore. Elon, can I be on the next Falcon SupeHeavy? I don't have to come back... Mars? Sure, Mars is fine. Skills? I can upgrade as needed. Am I a Youtuber? Uh, no? That's good? Sweet. My science skill are mostly hands-on. Horticulture, some animal husbandry. Not in extreme environments, though. I'll have to do some fast-cramming on that. The psychology of human environments--I can build living spaces that'll give you enough mental stimulation to keep you from going crazy. More important than people may realize... I'm in? Awesome! When do I go?
Um ... a well adjusted adult who doesn't need social media to dictate how I live?
When I was little, most of my peers wanted to be star athletes. I don't think that's any better.
At least, they've still got the Soyuz. Til they don't want to share.
I mean... vloggers are well liked! If they make good vlogs they get good money! I don’t know...
SICK societies. Screwed up value systems. And when China overtakes the West on most parameters there are, then the would-be vlogger/youtubers will be screaming bloody murder. Poor kids! Children are never ever to blame, their parents are.
Hmm it's good to set boundaries for your kids en give them a sense of responsibility. But not in the way you are proposing mr Coach-dad wich sons and daughters are probably real sad en feel no self worth because you give them the feeling they are never good enough for your approval.
When youre at home all day playing games and your mom tells you to go play outside 🤡
do not buy from a company thats owned by a man who hoards billions! wealth should be distributed!!
WTF is wrong with the people who make these posters lol
Puccino's is well known for its often self-deprecating humour. From an advertising point of view it seems to be successful.

Over half of these have little to nothing to do with capitalism, and almost all of the posts are people just whining about modern society.
I don't know which one is more depressive, the post or the some comments here. Many people can't even dream a better world anymore. Even after seeing all these obviously unacceptable examples first thing they do is to take time a try to advocate "business". Even that student loan advertisement should be enough to stfu with your "business is good" b******t for a moment. Just shut up for a moment!! This is coming from a recent graduate with 30k education debt. You know, kind of a debt many of you were not familiar in your college years.
Um, socialism has quite the dark side as well if you do your research.
And all aspects of that can be trickled down to capitalism. If you mean communism, then I will agree with you there. No great power should be given to one person, or a group of persons. Socialism is a community effort though. If you are talking about failures in socialized medicine, then that can all be attributed to certain people wanting to make profit on medicine (capitalism) and influencing the government through funding...

Do we have a f*cking choice though? What's wrong with wanting things to be better? We can still have THIS but in an improved way!

I got too sick of the pro-laissez-faire capitalism comments from cultists to keep looking through this list.
Capitalism literally rewards people for meeting other people's needs. Socialism brings whole nations into poverty. You probably thinking of 'consumerism', not 'capitalism'.

F**K YOU for being a hypocrite and using the tools of capitalism to bash it. F**K YOU for wanting to go socialist and hurt.......absolutely everything. You are ignorant. You may as well say "Let them eat cake"
Yep. You simply can't want a better life for yourself or the people around you. Also stop using the word "triggered" for such a minor complaint please.

You shouldn't use lazy comparisons to try to prove a point. On the capitalistic/socialist spectrum the US is far more capitalistic than western Europe but the US has much worse corruption at this time. Full capitalism is just as bad as full socialism. You just don't realize that there aren't really any fully capitalistic countries that exist to compare to a full socialist country. The US, Western Europe, China and Japan all have a mix of socialism and capitalism. A good balance of the two is what works best right now.
