My name is Alireza Karimi Moghaddam. I'm a cartoonist and illustrator. I was born in Iran and currently live in Lisbon.

As a teenager, I fell in love with Van Gogh's life story and classic paintings. His style, vibrant colors, and lifestyle inspired me. I followed almost all the books and movies that have been made about Van Gogh, and I immersed myself in the love of his life.

For me, Van Gogh is not only a famous artist and a genius but a way of life. He is not a frustrated and distressed model but a symbol of love, humanity, and altruism. I understand and propagate his creative ideas from a different perspective, and on the contrary to a prevailing traditional view, I would like a different Van Gogh to be a Van Gogh for everyone.

My cartoon drawings show that Van Gogh's life was all about beauty and love. It might have had a bitter ending, but it was inspiring for the future.

He was kind of weird. I mean he would sniff or eat (don't remember) paint thinner, and even stalked his cousin because he wanted to marry her

It is his right ear that was cut... He painted himself from his reflection in the mirror … so it looks like his left ear was bandaged.

Someone told me once that the tree in "starry night" isn't a tree..it's the long hair of a woman jumping to her death when he was a patient at a mental asylum. Although more than likely untrue..I thought it was appropriate given his sad life.

On 27 July 1890, aged 37, Van Gogh shot himself in the chest with a 7mm Lefaucheux à broche revolver. There were no witnesses and he died 30 hours after the incident. The shooting may have taken place in the wheat field in which he had been painting, or a local barn.[189] The bullet was deflected by a rib and passed through his chest without doing apparent damage to internal organs – probably stopped by his spine. He was able to walk back to the Auberge Ravoux, where he was attended to by two doctors, but without a surgeon present the bullet could not be removed. The doctors tended to him as best they could, then left him alone in his room, smoking his pipe. The following morning Theo rushed to his brother's side, finding him in good spirits. But within hours Vincent began to fail, suffering from an untreated infection resulting from the wound. He died in the early hours of 29 July. According to Theo, Vincent's last words were: "The sadness will last forever". - Wikipedia

Of all of the wonderful artwork that has appeared over the years here, never have I been more entranced, overwhelmed, amazed, breathless, awed, laughed, cried, fantasized, become thoughtful, gleefully lingered over minute details, touched the screen with abiding affection, gasped at each additional expression ... everything Vincent was, and still is, has been reverently and respectfully, playfully and sentimentally captured by Alireza ... how I adore your work and how I wish my own artwork was so utterly poignant and sweet and captivating as this collection ... having been to Vincent's museum several times over the years, have having fallen in love with him decades ago, I send my deepest affection and admiration and appreciation for this elegant expression of his life and work ... thank you, thank you ...
