This Online Group Celebrates Kittens That Are ‘Illegally Smol’ And Here Are 50 Of The Most Adorable Pics
It ain't easy being a cat—simply entering this world too small gets you a criminal record with your mug shot made public for everyone to see. Well, kind of.
There's a subreddit called Illegally Smol Cats, and it has 391,000 members sharing cute pictures of tiny kittens. "It should be illegal to be that adorable," the online community writes in its description. And they are right.
The images show these furry villains and their crimes such as napping or enjoying the warmth of a laptop charger, and the amount of damage they do to your stomach due to inducing a never-ending "aww" is unparalleled.

The subreddit's size becomes even more impressive when you consider that it was created in August 2019. Also, it has only two moderators running the show, who assign posts into one of these categories: "Criminally Smol", "Smol and Angy", "Honorary Smol Kitty", "Full Grown Smol", "Smol Beach Kitty", and "Smol, Yet Chonk".
As we know, cats are adorable at any age, but figuring out how old a kitten is can help determine what sort of care they need. Sometimes it can be tricky to tell. However, Alley Cat Allies released a guide, which should help us to tell how old the cats in these pics are in no time, at least some time.
When kittens are first born, they are completely helpless—their eyes are closed, their ears are folded, and they can't even stand, keep themselves warm, or eat on their own. At this stage, they rely on their mom completely. They fit in the palm of our hand and weigh 3-5 ounces. These babies spend about 90 percent of their time sleeping and the other 10 percent eating.
One week into this world, they are becoming more aware of their surroundings, and their eyes are almost completely open, though their eyesight is still unfocused. They have doubled their birth weight to around eight ounces, and at about seven days old, a kitten's ears will unfold as well.
During their second week, kittens continue to grow fast. After 14 days, their ears are almost completely uncurled and they begin to crawl around, although they still depend completely on their caregiver for food and waste elimination.
By the third week, you can tell if the kittens are boys or girls. Their sharp teeth are coming in and they become more confident in walking around. Now is the time to provide them with a litter box and wet food.
Four-week kittens are sturdy on their feet and like playing with each other, toys, and people. They start to look like fluffy, mini versions of their mother and are showing interest in the outside world. They are ready to begin socializing!
At this point, it's still a while before kittens are ready for their loving homes, but with each day, their sentence for being "smol" gets shorter and shorter.
