I've been trying to figure out what device these screws are all part of...

I was taught to do this in Automotive class in high school. It is a great way to identify nuts and bolts on disassembly as well as which bolt goes in which hole. You can even get creative when they need to be put in a specific return order of install.

When you have to take a laptop or similar, use a sheet of paper. Draw a rough sketch of the part you are going to remove including the location of the screws As you remove them screws stick them with tape in the location.. You could use a piece of cardboard and do like in the photo but it doesn't work well with tiny screws on modern electronics

I lay them out in the order removed & then just do the reverse.

I realised why they were doing it but got very confused with soap. Now my brain is trying to work out what exactly they are putting together. I'm thinking a shower stall maybe??

Also take pics before during the disassembly process so u can check how things should go back. :)

I just put a Hifi amplifier back together, the trouble I had remembering where all the different screws went, if only I had read this before I took it apart :(

So, when the kids I work with pass their driving test, I give them a present. In the bag is a seatbelt cutter/hammer tool, a small book on basic car maintenance, and a keyring that can fit a rolled up £20 note for emergencies. All useful things to have, and not very expensive
