My favorite section of the 'Guinness World Records' book was always the biggest things. I marveled at the Blue Whale, the skyscrapers vying for the world's tallest and trucks with wheels the size of a house.
The most important part, the thing that really makes you say 'wow' is the scale. You can't really appreciate the sheer size of something unless something familiar is placed alongside it for comparison. We here at Bored Panda have compiled a list of things that are even bigger than you probably thought. From wombats to wolves, these 'big' things are actually freaking huge! Scroll down to check them out for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments!

A Full Grown Wombat
No these things are mean. Remember they come from Australia and as we all know by now everything here wants to kill you.
Load More Replies...No they are f*****g vicious if they feel threatened ... their claws can tear through a car like butter ... they are wild animals they shouldn't be squeezed.
Load More Replies...Color me astonished. I always thought these were the size of guinea pigs. Surprisingly, they're even more adorable in supersize!
I always thought that too. Probably because I've always seen videos of baby ones.
Load More Replies...Wombats are in some ways ground koalas. Adn a fun fact - their poops are cubes!
Giant Leatherback Sea Turtle
This looks like it's been set up as a perspective trick, like she's actually much further up the beach to make it look bigger. Would be cool to see one with a better angle
No, where I live the Leatherback comes to lay it's eggs, and trust me, they really are HUGE. Beautifull animals, but this is not a trick of perspective, they really are giants :)
Load More Replies...We vacationed in NC years ago and did a sun-up, four-wheeler beach tour, one of these amazing creatures was washed up dead on the beach, I had no clue there were species of sea turtles hattgot so big, I was in aw!
This Is How Big A Billion Is
Yes, and 1 million seconds is how long the weekend feels in comparison! :-)
Load More Replies...Now I understand! Dogs live in billions. I'm gone for 8 hours but to the dog I've been gone a year.
If you had $1 billion, you could spend $100,000 every day for 27.4 years before you'd run out of money.
And that doesn't even factor in the interest income that would accrue in the mean time.
Load More Replies...Giant African Land Snail
I have one around that size. He almost completely engulfs my hand when he fully ventures out of his shell

You're not wrong (I was searching for the reference, thanks!!)
Load More Replies...I knew the numbers but damn........ I'm pretty sure I'll feel even more insignificant than usual today.
I kind of want to hit that with something to see the earths go flying

Load More Replies...This is how many M&Ms would fit inside my mouth, because I have always been told I have a big mouth :D
I think is is also quite impressive by mass: you need 332946 earthes to have the mass of our sun...
Thank you for clarifying that. because when somebody said earlier 12 I was quite confused cuz it looks like a lot more than 12 in there LOL
Load More Replies...Eagle Talon Vs. Human Hand
I had once an eagle on my arm and I was indeed very surprised how huge their claws are. Very amazing
Many years ago, my husband and I volunteered at a raptor rescue facility - we fostered babies at home, but also went to the facility to feed rehabilitating adults and clean their enclosures. My husband was attacked by a bald eagle while raking the enclosure, and has some nice talon scars on his shoulder, but the talons were nowhere near this big, thank goodness. I've never seen talons that large, but we only have two types of eagle where I live - bald and golden. I wonder what type of eagle is pictured?
Probably a harpy. I think those are the biggest eagles.
Load More Replies...It's not fake, it's just that saying it's just a generic eagle talon is dumb. Eagles come in many different sizes. This is the harpy eagle, one of the largest living species in the world. Not quite the same thing as, say, a bald eagle talon.
Load More Replies...Size Of A Blue Whale's Heart
You could simply crouch in through the aorta and have your own little whale heart home. I mean, they always say "home is where your heart is", right?
But in that case, heart would be where your home is.

They say you can fit a VW Bug inside a whales heart (blue whale I believe
Size Comparison: Titanic Vs. Modern Cruise Ship
The bridge just looks tiny because of the angle and distance. I'm sure the bridge is much bigger than the ship
Load More Replies...Why does everybody go on these giant cruise ships nowadays - they pollute our planet more than any other holidays would do. :-(
Lol you know how clean they keep them? There's always a worker getting on your case to use hand sanatizer.

Quetzalcoatlus Northropi Model Next To A 1.8m Man. The Largest Known Flying Animal Ever Exist
It's whole length was 13-14 metres, the neck was 3,5-4,5 metres long. They weighed between 75 and 180 kg. You could ride this thing!
Load More Replies...Who needs aliens when we have the weirdest creatures imaginable right here on earth!
Why wouldn't this topple over forwards? And how would those bat leg/wing things lift the huge head and beak? Or is the photo just at a weird angle? My head hurts.
their heads were actually that size. surprisingly. then again, lizards bigger than whales is somewhat surprising.
Load More Replies...Fully Inflated Horse Lungs
I've seen this before, or well not inflated, so this is fascinating. Horse innards are all surprisingly huge...especially the guts, you don't expect that much guts either (before anyone asks, I used to work in a zoo. The horse had been terminally injured and the owner gave the carcass to the zoo to dispose of. The horse went to the wolves for a good half a year, huge horse).
As veterinary assistant, believe this isn't the most impressive organ from an horse can shock for ita dimensions
Load More Replies...It will be for research. The lungs will have been taken from a recently deceased horse and they will be pumping pressure into them for whatever reason, usually to train and develop knowledge. Or, it could be the lungs are part of a post-mortem to determine the late horses death.
Load More Replies...Well, it is not uncommon that humans outrun horses over great distances and humans lungs are a lot smaller... Guess these lungs have more of a benefit in a shorter distance where VO2max is more important. What Im saying is that lungs are not that important for great distances.
Load More Replies...So, that suggests to me that a horse can never fully inflate its lungs?
The Great Pyramid Of Giza Compared To A Human
They used to be covered in smooth white limestone with a gold cap. Imagine being an ancient and coming across this thing at a time when people had never seen anything really taller than a tree. You'd be amazed. Wow!
They seem a lot smoother and easier to slide down in AC Origins - but I guess that's set a couple of thousand years ago.
I didn’t know you could sit on it. Awesome to see from this point of view.
Wolf Size Compared To Coyotes
Story time! My husband grew up on the west coast, I grew up a city girl in the east. He took me to Yellowstone a few years ago and I wanted to see a wolf SO BADLY. We were driving past a field and I yelled "STOP! Is that a wolf?!" He slowed down and looked, said "No, that's a coyote." I wasn't convinced. "Are you sure? How can you be sure? I think that's a wolf." And he said "Trust me - if it were a wolf, you'd know. That's a coyote." Fast forward to many hours later, and found ourselves driving down another road. Around a pond to the right a lot of people with cameras had gathered, so we decided to pull over and see what it was they were gawking at. However, we had barely slowed down when a full grown, entirely black wolf stepped out in front of our car. My response? "Oh." His response? "Yeah."
This is exactly what happened to us. We've been seeing some exceedingly large coyotes around our place in the past few years, some with much darker coloring than usual too, of course we wondered if they were wolves. Then we were riding in the mountains of Eastern Oregon and a wolf crossed the road in front of us. Yeah, totally different!
Load More Replies...This reminds me of the time I accidentally wandered into a biker bar.
Humback Whale And Diver Shake Hands
That's why is called "Megaptera" (Big wing) and that's also why they are the acrobats of the ocean. They have an extreme strength in their flippers to do that. ( Work in the whales museum in Iceland... i been saying this the whole day) :')
A Moose
Hey, that's Alaska! I recognize our license plates. And that's a pretty dang big bull. Most of the ones running around town aren't quite that large.
You say that like giant moose just walk around town casually, making small talk with passerby
Load More Replies...They kill more people than bears. And while you may hit a deer with a car and survive, if you hit a moose, you're dead instantly.
We were riding motorcycles through Alaska and headed back home through the Yukon Territory, running along a wide open and quiet highway early one morning. An oncoming semi truck flashed his lights and suddenly there was something right in front of him, I honestly didn't think it was an animal because it was so big. My brain finally realized it was a moose - one tall enough to be looking in the cab right at the driver. We'd seen tons of moose before this, but none up close and none this large. It was mind-boggling.
On a fishing trip in Alaska we where driving around all pissed off at the slow driving locals. We asked our guide why people did 15 under the speed limit and he just said "Moose" we saw a photo collection at a local gas station after that showed the aftermath of a impact and its ALL BAD. We drove really slow after that
I never realized how enormous moose are until I moved to Alaska. I was attending the University of Alaska at the time, and another student got trampled to death by a moose on campus, no lie. People would warn you constantly about running into them on the road, because apparently their eyes don't reflect light, so you might not see them in the dark (I never have verified that that's true; it's just what I was told).
Salt Water Croc Is An Absolute Unit
Food is served in a sealed container today. Open, heat fot 30 seconds, then stirr.
Please peel off additional pieces of covering before ingesting. It may cause choking.
Load More Replies...So basically they eat people like we eat popcorn. Good to know. One more reason not to move there.
They can grow to up to 6-7 metres long. That's how long most people's living rooms are.
*chills voice* Number 15 This saltwater croc is an absolute beast just look how big it is compared to this woman imagine being in the ocean with one of these giants. lol

Ayy, It's Joysey! (Yes I come from New Jersey, no, I'm not making fun of it)
A Bus, For Size
I'm noticing how you need to use a literal flight of stairs just to get in the damn thing.
My Grandfather drove one of those big dumpers at the Copper mine here in Utah. We would go to family days up there and get pictures taken in front of the huge tires.
Cool. My dad drove one like it when they built the 2nd powerhouse at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River. I have pics when I was 4 standing in front of it!
Load More Replies...My Dad used to work in these ( mechanic in the iron mines). When they had inner tubes in tires, he'd bring them home like an antique version of a trampoline!
I have been by one of these trucks and they are huge! But it was at parked
Imagine the pricetag. For the price of one, you can send one kid through college. It has 6! And they go through 3-5 sets a year
Load More Replies...I live in an area with a lot of mines. Still amaze me every time I see one of those.
Don't know if this is the salt mine in Salt Lake City, but somewhere in my photo collection I have a picture of me and my sisters next to one of the tires. It was a MONSTER!
If The Moon Was Replaced By Saturn
But the view just before impact would be spectacular!
Load More Replies...If the moon WERE replaced by Saturn, not WAS. WERE is used for hypothetical situations, WAS is not correct in this context.
This doesn't say anything though, as it is all a question of focal angle. With a zoom lens you could make the moon look almost as big.
Michaelangelo's David
That's what she said! (sorry, low hanging fruit.)

Worth reading this book: The Agony and the Ecstasy (1961) is a biographical novel of Michelangelo Buonarroti written by American author Irving Stone. Stone lived in Italy for years visiting many of the locations in Rome and Florence, worked in marble quarries, and apprenticed himself to a marble sculptor. A primary source for the novel is Michelangelo's correspondence, all 495 letters of which Stone had translated from Italian by Charles Speroni and published in 1962 as I, Michelangelo, Sculptor. Stone also collaborated with Canadian sculptor Stanley Lewis, who researched Michelangelo's carving technique and tools.[2] The Italian government lauded Stone with several honorary awards for his cultural achievements highlighting Italian history.

That's actually quite impressive, they look a lot smaller when dangling from their posts
I love the effect of walking up to one of these. I know how big they are and it's still hard to wrap my mind around it. Each light is bigger around than my head. It's really cool.
Load More Replies...They are also frighteningly heavy, and we drive under them all the time.
I'm thinking of how they swing during storms and stuff and the thought of how heavy they are is really scary.
Load More Replies...This is just a regular, average, run-of-the-mill stop light? Like, they are all really this big?? What kind of crazy-a*s perspective makes them look so tiny? They're only like 20 ft off the ground!
One Of The Props That Were Used For The Close-Ups In The LOTR Movies
I actually came here to see who has beaten me to saying that. Lol.
Load More Replies...No wonder they couldn't get a lift off the eagle going in as well as coming out.
Not to speak of how difficult it was to find a matching hand model for the close-ups...
The Largest Tree In The World
Actually not the tallest anymore. All of the tallest trees in the world are indeed giant sequoias, but Hyperion outranks the General Sherman by far (379.7 ft for Hyperion, compared to 275 ft for General Sherman). Helios was discovered in 2006. I don't believe it's location has been revealed to the public.
Nope, it's the largest by volume - there are some taller and some wider (and some older)
Load More Replies...As a California native who has seen many trees like this and even lived next door to two, this doesn't seem like such a big deal. That is what familiarity will do.
Last year the "Pioneer Cabin Tree" in California fell from a storm. It had a tunnel that had been driven through with cars and buggies over the years. It was believed to be about 1000 years old. What a shame.
Load More Replies...That's actually not the largest tree. The largest tree on Earth is located on the same forest as the tree on this picture (Redwood Forest in California) and it's name is Hyperion
My backyard!! Sequoia national park is lovely, definitely worth the drive

Wild Boar Skull Compared To Adult Wolf

Load More Replies...I lived in Arkansas for several years, where the Razorback Hogs are legendary. It's estimated there are about 200,000 there today. Males can weigh up to 300 pounds. Glad I never ran into one. Lol
Holy sh*t!!! And I live in the middle of nowhere in a damn forest in East Texas. I know we have them, but I've never actually seen one in person, Thank God. I've seen every other animal you can think of, from deer to possums, rabbits, armadillos, squirrels, raccoons, etc. and so on. Oh and birds of every kind, (Year ago, I had just gotten a little bitty dog, she didn't even live long enough for me to name her, because she was taken by a damn hawk). But, regardless of the wild boars, the armadillos who tear up my garden, and the hawk that took my dog...there is no way I want to move back to any city. Been there, done that.
Notice how close the tusks are. Every time they open and shut their mouths they are sharpening them. My hunter friend showed me on a skull he bleached. Those things will rip you apart
THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A WOLF SKULL. THE TEETH ARE WRONG. THE CANINES ARE POINT BACK ON THE BOTTOM TO GRASP MEAT WITH.
Wind Turbine Blade
This is small actually. The latest generation for off-shore wind parks will exceed 100 meters blade size (110 yards).
Ok Hans who are you and how do you know all of this s**t.... I'm going for Spy?
Load More Replies...At night, I sometimes used to drive out to climb the fence at a local wind turbine installation on some hills up in the lakes, and stand directly underneath the blades. The deep thrumming whoosh as each blade would pass was intense, and it was very hard not to duck and cower despite knowing I was quite safe. After a while of my eyes acclimatising to the darkness, I would just be able to make out the blurry shape of something whirling by, leaving a ghostly trail of afterimages and sound. They sure feel big when you're right next to them! An experience I wholeheartedly recommend! Wind turbines are magnificent!
Good grief! In Texas, we see these mothers being driven down our roads all the time! Hard to believe the construction alone is supportable efficiently by the energy they produce.
We have many of these wind turbines in our area of WA state. I never knew how large they were until we passed semi trucks carrying the blades. A double trailer & it hung off end.
I've driven past these on the freeway as they're being transported. They're huge.
My husband and I moved to Colorado a couple years ago and these are common on the freeways around here. They look so otherworldly- like spaceships!
Load More Replies...I've worked on a lay-barge for offshore wind farms. Those things are immense!
Yao Ming And Seven Foot Tall Guy
OK! Here's a little story: When Yao Ming got inducted in the basketball hall of fame, he had some trouble putting his ceremony jacket on... The only one who could help him was Shaquille O'neal shaquilleyaot.jpg

Load More Replies...Bear Claws Next To Human Hand
I was just reading in a book last night about medicine, and when a scientist from the mid 1800's couldn't get a human foot to dissect, he got a bear's foot and did it instead, since they are so similar. It was someone famous, but now I cannot recall who it was.
Very true. When I was doing my summer forensic field school, we had pictures of a case near my college where a pedestrian found what looked like the lower torso and legs of a teenager. When the remains were taken to the morgue, the pathologist laughed and told them it was a bear. Someone had removed the claws. Without them, it looked like human feet and legs.
Load More Replies...This actually reminded me of a cat's claw, with their claws being embedded in bone. Then I thought about how having a cat de-clawed would be managed-that entire distal phalanx would have to be removed. I'll stick to a scratching post...
I don't think many people realize that declawing a cat is actually an amputation of their toe...it's rather cruel unless medically necessary.

The Size Of This 400,000 Volt Underground Cable Compared To My Hand
Are these the cables used for Internet? You guys do realize that our entire WWW is connected via the oceans, underground, and NOT by satellites right? You can see the map of the cables that go across the ocean floors.... there are not that many of them. It's amazing!
No, data cables are fiber optic and actually pretty small and light stuff. the actual fibers are just a few millimeters in diameter, with a mantle of plastic and steel wires. the whole cable may be around the diameter of a garden water hose.
Load More Replies...You should see the underwater cables between Great Britain and Europe continent.
When I lived in Egypt we lost all internet connections and it was because some ship had got something (anchor???) caught in the undersea cables and snapped it, so we were without internet for a while
Those are the kind of batteries they probably used for electric chairs
