Anything out there that’s overrated, overused, ridiculously expensive, ruined by the wealthy?

Gun safety is common sense. I am DONE with people saying their right to bear arms outweighs public safety. DONE. I was raised hunting. I know what guns are, what they do, and how to use 'em. And as my late gramps said, anyone who wants guns that much *shouldn't have 'em*. So, yeah, done with the "second amendment defenders" here in the US. Defend the public safety instead! Schoolkids shouldn't be scared of gunmen!

You don't need an assault rifle with a high capacity magazine unless you're going off to war.. or to shoot up a school, a workplace, a shopping mall, a movie theater, or any other place where innocent people congregate. WTF is wrong with people (and especially politicians) that can't or won't accept the fact that assault weapons and high capacity magazines have no practical use except for killing a lot of people in a short period of time.

You don't have the cartels coming across your backyard, do you? If they wanted to control guns, they would control the border.

Note: I'm a medical doctor. I've seen gunshot wounds in hunted animals, and in humans. Newsflash, for those who missed it: You don't need that much firepower to kill, and there's no reason to have it. Have therapy, yes. An armory, no.

It's very sad that pretty much it feels like we hear about a new shooting every other day (and that's me being generous) in the US, be it in schools or elsewhere. If gun safety was taken more seriously, especially by some politicians, then children shouldn't have to be taught how to act during an active shooter situation as often as they are.

Americans have absolutely lost the plot about their right to bear arms! It’s not even about that any more, it’s about the fact that they are obsessed with having weapons and if you asked and did a survey, I can guarantee that the majority of people that are gun fanatics have a secret wish to kill someone in life, using one of their precious guns.

As my gramps said, and I stated above, anyone who wanta guns that much, doesn 't need 'em (and shouldn't have 'em!). I havew a neighbor with 80 guns. He shoots people's pets. He's nuts. But he can have allllll those guns. WTF? Why?! WHY! I grew up with hunting for food, and the absurdity of gun owners' rationales baffles *me*. End of the day, one gun is all any household needs for self-defense (shotgun) and if you hunt, a single-shot bolt-action rifle shouldu work, or you suck at hunting (quoting my gramps again). I don't get it at all. It really is about the NRA selling fear. And many guns get to criminals via theft, so that blows "responsible gun ownesrhip" outta the water. ARGH.

If they loved their "freedom" and the constitution as much as their t-shirts and bumper stickers proclaim, they'd take a good look at the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th amendments before they "backed the blue" and our justice system so blindly and enthusiastically. Encroachment of freedom isn't the government passing common sense gun legislation; it's a cop intimidating citizens into an illegal search, a supreme court that pisses half the population's healthcare rights away, a judicial system that jails more people than any other country per capita and disproportionately minority and poor. And you can go on and on with example after example of conservative hypocrisy and mis prioritization.

Instead of gun "control", which is always a non-starter, we should be talking about gun responsibility. You say you're a responsible gun owner? PROVE IT!

And shut up when someone inspects your house about it! "Oh, my privacy!" Yeah, well, it is PUBLIC safety. If you've got nothing to fear (using the impersonal you, which exists in many languages but not English), then why the problem? You can still own guns. You just can't live like it's a video game.

I mean, they can’t be that great if they had to release one of their s*x tapes to get attention and then blame everyone else? I know that much happened but I don’t understand the fascination with them?? “Oohh they’ve had so much plastic surgery none of them look vaguely familiar to what they used to and are a terrible influence to teenagers and young kids but yes, let’s make them famous? “ UCK! 🤮

Same here. Some of them I read just in case it's one of the rare ones that are actually a gray area. But usually the headline is misleading or the story is written in such a way that you think it's going one way but then goes another way. It's not how people would normally tell a true tale.

"Southern Strategy" is what took them down further than anybody could have expected. The last republican President who was somewhat good was Eisenhower - he and Jimmy Carter, tbh, are the only post-WW2-presidents I consider good at all ... his inauguration was some 70 years ago... The "Southern Strategy" aimed at the votes of the southern racists who, prior to the civil rights movement, always voted for racist democrats who, now, were being discarded. The democrats changed and didn't consider losing these peoples' vote a sufficient reason to pamper them - and, actually, they couldn't have both. Those registered voters, now, were seeking something else to vote, and, voila, by campaigning differently in the south and the north, the GOP got to be the default vote for these people - and now, they can't win anything without addressing this group. This leads to people like Governour DeSantis being in office, which is, in itself already, a major disaster. A guy like him in the white house is a terrible, frightening nightmare that might just be about to become reality - and all that because a party didn't make up their minds, but minded the polls, and accepted throwing off sacred, founding, principles that once had defined the entire party and given the reason to found it in the first place. That, really, is sad. And dangerous.

Here in Australia, if you happen to be white you get called racist all the time. I was at the bus stop with headphones on not realising someone was trying to ask me for the time. This person happened to be indigenous and I pulled my headphones off just in time to hear I was being called "a racist white dog" because they thought I was ignoring them. Some (And i mean some not all) of the indigenous people here are the most racist people I have come across but yet coz I'm white (which obviously I could totally control as I was born) I'm always the racist?

Winnipeg was labelled "Most Racist City In Canada" by MacLean's magazine. Everyone in Winnipeg was like: .... Oo Wtf we do??? But then it started conversations. Some were getting unnecessarily defensive. Some were telling their experiences of racial profiling (all races were, including Caucasians). Some were revealing how racist they were (mostly the people who claiming to be racially profiled). These conversations have become more prevalent since then. News agencies have turned comments off on Facebook, especially regarding anything about Indigenous matters. It has revealed a lot about our society, and people in general. There were people trying to tell the world exactly how I see it. There's racist people everywhere in the world. Not just in Winnipeg. When you live somewhere with a lot of mixed ethnicities, no matter your skin colour or where you come from, you'll experience racial profiling, and racist remarks. If you be better than that, then you're already being the difference.

I find they're just fun to use now and then. I personally don't understand why people think playing around with them means insecurities. It's just fun. I feel this way with make up, though. Now there's some sort of foundation that blurs out skin details and stuff to hide pores. People are more inclined to tell someone who doesn't wear make up they would look better with some on, or how pretty that person looked that one day they decided to wear makeup.

Politics. By this I mean not politics in general, where you can pass laws to better your country and help people out — but the way that people react when you have a differing opinion. It makes people hate each other and I am so over it. You should be able to express your opinion and the reasons behind your opinion, but then it becomes a matter of who’s wrong and who’s right. I hate those arguments. Nobody’s perfect. Get over yourself, please. And try not to judge others either. (Fully expecting backlash for this — “what if they’re homophobic, racist, etc?” Then don’t talk to them or be their friend. It’s that simple guys.) I’m not even old enough to vote and I’m already sick of politics

I understand where you're coming from. But because you're so young, you haven't felt the direct effects of politics. If you were an adult woman with an unwanted pregnancy, and politicians had taken away your right to appropriate healthcare, then you might feel differently. If you were gay but unable to be legally married to someone of the same sex, then you might feel differently. Some things must be fought for.

What you are calling politics is just the inability for civil discourse in the modern world. With the onset of the internet, people had no immediate reaction to the dumb stuff they say. If someone were to speak to another in person, as they do online, there would be so many more Karens! That is how shootings and road rage and Karens get to be how they are.

I still like people who have different views from me, in fact I have many friends who disagree with my political stance as much as I do with theirs, however, we are civilised and like each other so we agree to disagree, only coming together, politically, to kick back against extremism. As for how I look, I really don't give a s**t, I'm 65+, skinny and bald so it's OK, I'm never going to be on the front cover of Vogue (unless someone wants a challenge to get this to happen !!). Differing political opinions does not automatically mean you can't be friends or have civil conversations. Like you said, you can be civil. Most of my family leans further right while I lean much further left, but on big key issues like gun control and abortion we actually have more common ground than the politicians want us to think. We know this because we have civil and open conversations. I know not everyone can do this, but it's important to try in my opinion.

YES! Social media has never been what it was conceptualized as: a place for REAL people to make friends and share REAL experiences over distances previously prohibitive. Instead, it's just become another form of fantasy entertainment that's more detrimental to everyone's mental health because it's CLAIMED to be REAL but most of it is totally fake, a carefully curated snapshot that someone wants people to THINK is their life, but it's no more real than shows on TV or Movies. It's become an epidemic of comparison and feeling like your aren't successful enough, beautiful enough, "spiritual" enough because you, your home, your car, your vacation DON'T look like what's on social media, and it's ruined the experience of visiting places because of all the wannabe influencers trading up space to film themselves in their fake, curated lives

People labeling each-other before they even know what is going on. No Margaret, that woman is not a Karen. She found a hair in her food and you are being a jerk and filming her instead of offering good customer service. No Aiden, I am not a MAGA Trumper just because I like guns and flags and big trucks. Sorry Lily, I don't hate the planet because I have to drive a car to work to feed my family. I like to be alive, that's what. Yes Bob, I can respect men and still watch Barbie and be independent and single. It's not a stab at your masculinity, it's just a confidence in my femininity.

"Karen" isn't someone who has a legitimate company that they bring to the attention of someone in charge of fixing that complaint in a courteous, adult manner. "Karen" is someone who PUTS a hair in her own food to try to get a free meal, or who finds a hair in her food, screams at the waiter (who had nothing to do with the kitchen), throws her plate off food on the ground, and acts like someone just got away with murdering her dog and burning down her house because of it! People can have complaints. The preponderance of people who think that having a complaint gives them the right to treat others with disrespect, get violent, and get tons of free stuff is the reason for that particular label

    Community Member
2 years ago Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

I totally agree with this. My point is that I've seen a lot of "Karen" content going around for poor people who do legitimately have a complaint...they just have a short blond haircut. So they get labeled before they have a chance to explain themselves. Sorry for the confusion!

Hey there, sorry to respond to your post slightly negatively. 1. In the case of "Karens", I think as you indicate, it depends on the situation. Calling the cops because a POC is walking his dog in a park on a leash, is unreasonable. Calling for management because there's a hair in your food is not unreasonable. It depends. 2. Maybe you aren't a MAGA, but you're presumably a Republican? Liking guns, I think, means you think killing people is OK. I think that is the height of evil, and, also hypocritical (e.g. foetus = human, must be preserved, but once it's born it's fine to shoot it in school). Re liking flags, I think being patriotic is OK, but not if it means "also other countries are way shittier than ours." As long as you respect other countries. Driving a car to work, sure, but get a small european or japanese car that uses less petrol. Watching Barbie? I would have thought the talk of "patriarchy" etc., would be offputting for a Republican?

Wow. You are really one for the books. Not going to address the whole mess but one item in particular. I sell auto parts. There are no small European cars sold in the USA except for Mini Coopers. They, like every other European brand sold here are notoriously expensive not just to but to maintain. You know what we say BMW means? Break My Wallet. As far as Japanese vehicles are concerned, yeah, they might be a bit more fuel efficient, but they are notorious parts hogs. Hondas. Nissan and Toyotas bought me two homes and put three kids through college. Also, I dislike guns although I earned an expert marksmanship ribbon in the military. I am not a Democrat. I like the flag. I am not a Republican. I also don't like your Eurotrash attitude. You owe Lil Miss Hobbit an apology.

My problem with Boomers has to do with their blaming millennials for absolutely everything under the sun, even things that they did to us (talking $hit about us as the 'participation trophy' generation, like we as children were awarding them to ourselves??).

    Community Member
2 years ago (edited) Created by potrace 1.15, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2017

Participation trophies or awards date back as far as the early 20's and perhaps even earlier. Boomers got them too and also got criticized for it. The biggest criticism I have of Millennials is that you think your experiences are unique when they're basically the same as every other generation. You just whine about it more.

The Great Depression 1929-1932. Welfare-1935 Social Security-also 1935. Cold War-1962-1979. Oil Crisis-1973. Post WW2 saw the rise of consumerism, the spread of suburbia, Increased US involvement in other countries affairs, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan. Unions ever increasing demand pushed US businesses to move production overseas to bring down costs leading to underemployment and wage stagnation. Check the timelines and see who was in charge when these things happened. Yes. GW Bush, a boomer, was technically in charge when we invaded Afghanistan but by now everyone realizes Cheney was really calling the shots. We've had success with boomers as president since Clinton, the exception being Bush but, as I said before, Cheney was really the guy in charge. Back to a Silent gen president and, fun fact, it's a mess again.

If you don't agree with a person being true to themselves aka being trans or gay or whatever else they may identify as, that is literally transphobia/homophobia. The literal definition for transphobia is dislike of or strong prejudice against transgender people. Not agreeing to someone's true identity is a form of dislike. This is an actual person we're talking about, not a purple vegetable.

Capitalism, consumerism, the mentality of infinite growth on a finite planet, people who celebrate celebrity lifestyles and their crass consumerism. People with private jets. People who wear an outfit once. People who celebrate their first-world lifestyle and think their country is great meantime it is built, still built, on slave labour in the Global South where people are paid pittances to do your basic work like mining, sewing, assembling motherboards, etc. For example a minimum wage in my country is R 120 or so per day. That's $6 per day or about 0,75c per hour. But every time we support another "global south" country we get penalised by Wall Street who devalues our currency even further, to ensure that we pay ZAR more per dollar in interest on our loans and bonds. Your greed is disgusting and insatiable. And by the way, my country (SA) is technically and practically the richest in total on our continent. We - SA - make about 30% of the continent's GDP out of over 50 countries (the number varies!). Yet even we are struggling. You have NO idea how unpopular the west is outside your borders. Please advocate for climate justice, fair wages / fairtrade, and cancellation of loans to the global south. Please stop lending us money as well, we do not need it. We need you to pay fair prices for our minerals.

I am saying Bush/Blair are no different. If you want to criticise and arrest him, if you think the Ukraine thing is bad, please cry a bit for us brown folks who are the victims of your violence). Please don't lecture the Global South about corruption when you still have the NRA pulling strings and "lobbyists" (ie professional bribers) in your government. Please don't lecture us about "third world coups" when you had January 6, 2021. Please don't issue "travel warnings" for Africa when you yourselves have the same gun violence levels as El Salvador and Eswatini (you know, third world "shitholes" as trump called us). Please don't lecture us about "democracy" when you have race riots over police brutality. Thanks.

I love the South Park parody of them. Who gives a hoot about English royalty, or any other royalty? I don't care about entitled celebrities of any background, and most of them have done something to be celebrities. H/M haven't done anything. Harry was born into royalty and that is not an achievement, just an accident of birth. Like birth order. He could have been the next King, or living in the dump in Mexico City. Who knows or cares about his bride? Tey need to become good and accomplished at something and make a career out of it.

A polite society and small talk require some way to say harsh things nicely. But I agree with you. I am tired of 'made up' words and terms. It is kinder to say unemployed than to say fired or jobless. It is dumb to say unalive rather than deceased, dead, etc. Other terms in this group are woke terms like 'birthing persons'. Or political names like 'un-documented Americans'. The lists can go on forever if you throw all of the political leanings in. Ack!

Stop playing with her. Literally refuse, and if your parents get mad when she immediately tattles, tell them "she blames me when she gets hurt even though I didn't do anything to her, and you never bother to ask ME for MY size, you just get mad at me! She's not my kids, so it's not my job to make sure she doesn't hurt herself, so I'm not paying with her anymore because I'm tired of getting in trouble for her getting hurt!"

She wouldn't never believe he was lying because he was too young to do that. Our relationship never healed. He became a violent, narcissistic, controlling, entitled, borderline sociopath. I never felt I mattered to anyone.

Lots of people don't turn on their blinkers when they're going to turn. Maybe 70 or 80% of the time, at least where I live, in Ronda, a small city in the south of Spain. Grocery store inflation. Can barely buy fruit and toilet paper. It's doubled in price in a matter of a month. Galen Weston made over 30% profit increase since 2021. He used to have some of the most affordable grocery chains in Canada. Not really that affordable anymore. The Canadian government supplementing low to moderate income earners to make up for the inflation with grocery rebates, etc. But even more fed up with Canadians getting upset and shaming the recipients, who might not have been asking for it, just getting automatically based on their income in the previous tax year. I'm over it. Leave the people alone. Get mad at the government if it upsets you. Get mad at the grocery chain CEOs. I'm am very much done with job shamers. There's nothing wrong with being a janitor. If you're working at a call centre, I feel for you and know you're having a miserable time and just doing it while you find something better. But, hey, if you're enjoying the job, good for you. If you're working in fast food, thanks for making my coffee, burgers and fries. I know you're doing the best you can and not getting paid enough for the bagillion things you're doing throughout your shift. If you work in retail, it's not all hanging and putting up clothes, and ringing up items. Totally get it. Thanks for not putting me down when I try on those tight jeans that made me look like Yosemite Sam, or that dress I thought made me look like a centaur. I know you all work hard. I'm done with people wanting to bring me down about working an "unskilled" job. It doesn't define my intelligence nor my worth as a person.

Very well said! I'm convinced that many of these people who talk down to retail workers spend most of their days getting sh*t on at their own jobs, and use the "customer is always right" position to vent. It makes them feel big and powerful in a world where their opinions matter little and their feelings are not dealt with in a healthy way. "My day sucked because my boss was unhappy, I'll go order a cheeseburger without onions and then get righteously outraged when they forget to leave them off! YARRRR!!!"

apathy regarding things in life that people love to complain about but never do anything to make a positive change. it could be about so many issues such as gun control - people are angry but unless it has touched their lives they don't get passionate about it. politics - if you don't vote don't complain. also, if people would act like they expressed themselves regarding politics then maybe we would get something done to benefit the people instead of watching life long politicians do nothing but fight with the other side. people don't realize how much power we have if we would only take action on the things that we care about.

❤️👍👌👏👏👏 Good job. I also gave up smoking when I was told I was was going to be a dad. I am so glad I don't stink around my little darling boy. I was coming home a few weeks ago and a guy got on the train and he reeked of that burnt, sickly sweet, mouldy golden, stale smoke stench. I used to smell that bad too. Just the thought of putting my little angel's spat out dummy in his precious little mouth, again and again with nicotine stained fingers makes me retch. I am pleased I've quit but sort of ashamed it took such a life changing event. I couldn't quit even as I tried my best to care for my mum dying from smoking related cancer because she didn't want to die alone in a hospice. Cigarettes are gross, expensive and deadly. I also miss them from time to time, like the other day I realised I no longer spend any time gazing at the night sky anymore.

I just bought a heap (way more than I needed but anyway) of tops because they were under $2.50 each! Where I live, they usually have a day pensioners get 20% off, and one for students, plus $1 racks for stuff that's not selling and coloured tags that are cycled through with one colour being half price for a week. It also depends what suburb/town you shop in whether you will get mainly cheaper items, or designer ones. Also as you said, sifting through things helps.

It is still possible to find good deals, but not at Goodwill. The small thrift stores that support churches or hospitals tend to be pretty good. The Habitat for Humanity thrift store is wonderful. I also like ARC. If you want good furniture, go to a used furniture store.

People saying "woke" or "anti-fascism" like it is a bad thing. Look, if you think being aware of racism, or wanting to stop fascism is bad, you are a bigot and a fascist, and I'm on the other side.

You say 'woke' like it is being aware of racism and working against it. It is so much more than that. Do you know what fascism is in order to be against it? You are taking many terms and throwing them into a common pot of good or bad which just homogenized each into meaningless drivel.

I personally like shaving my armpits because I don't like the feel of hair there, but that's me and I see more women with body hair now than ever. Go for it! Like you said, you have hair and the world can just deal with it!

I'm just done with inconsiderate people in public! TRY to remember that you are not the only person on the bus, plane, train, ferry, etc. Take a look around you and notice if someone is standing behind you before you randomly take steps backward and trample toes, luggage, or children. Look BEFORE you merge. Wait your turn without grumbling or cussing. Realize that there are usually fewer workers these days (because they don't want to work for a non-living wage), and that the workers that are there are taxed to the max! Getting off my soap box now, but in short, BE NICE!

The fact that Jesus was Middle-Eastern is enough. The chances of him being a lily-white, blue-eyed boy are few and far between. Further more, no one knows when Jesus was born. Dec. 25 was selected because it was some kind of pagan holiday and was celebrated.

everything. i'm so sick of the world that i rarely leave my house during the day. I just cannot be bothered having to live the way other people think i should. whether its the jobcentre trying to force me to take a job that wont even cover my rent, to having to apply with online interviews or on the phone. My hearing is c**p yet they refuse to make any accomodations for that. If i cant hear you i cant answer. being told my billionaires that we have to change how much plastic we use to save the enviroment when they continue to pump out the stuff. then they fly their phallic rockets to not really space and tell us we polute too much. I'm a grown adult and i know what i need to survive and its not 2 part time jobs miles apart that still wont pay enough to live on. and employers that dont have the simple decency to say sorry not this time. this is the evidence i need to keepgetting my unemployment support but not one place bothers to send one out. i could go on and on with this subject

There are services that can get you free hearing aids. Not sure why you think an interviewer should yell at you just so you can hear them. That is unreasonable and sounds entitled..

it only for online stuff or phone that i cant hear. there is about a year wait for a hearing test so until then i cant get help. I want to work and dont see why my hearing issue cant be accomodated in some way. if i was missing a leg they would accomodate that but wont accomodate my lack of hearing? I just want a f*****g job

Civil Protest is a foundation of our country. But, I said civil. Not rioting, murder, and mayhem. I wish today's protesters would look at the civil rights movement. The protesters, not the cops and crowds. If you compare Dr.King's work and its outcome with the BLM, its riots and outcomes and just guess how that will look in 50 years. Riots and violence should never be tolerated! Vandalism and looting because a person was killed by a cop is just as bad as when it is caused in celebration of a national sports title. Stop it and act like civilized adults!

There were riots in the '60s. MLK said that rioting is the language of the unheard. “And, what is it that America has failed to hear? It has failed to hear that the economic plight of the Negro poor has worsened over the last few years.” Also, according to him, riots are “the rumblings of discontent from the ‘have nots’ within the midst of an affluent society.” He thought peaceful protest was superior, but never condemned the rioters or talked about law and order. There will always be people who take advantage of situations for their own gain. Most of the violence and looting at BLM protests was done by people not associated with the protests, people from out of town.
