Lithuania: Šaltibarščiai Or Pink Soup
This cold and tasty beetroot soup is a traditional dish from Lithuania. It's made by mixing pickled or boiled beetroots with kefir or buttermilk. Then, grated cucumbers and hard-boiled eggs are added. The soup is usually seasoned with dill.
People in Lithuania usually make this soup during the summer. It's most delicious when served with potatoes.
It’s also a traditional dish in Poland. It’s called “chłodnik” , the beetroot gazpacho, made just like the one in the original post.

Belgium "La Mitraillette" (The Machine Gun)
There are a lot of variations, but the base is meat in a baguette, salad, fries and a sauce of your choice. Ideal confort food in cold weather.
Nice! I live in Liège, near Maastricht. Next time I go there in the winter I will know what to ask for. (On the other hand, I don't understand at all the origin, neither of the Belgian name, nor of the Dutch name)

Fried Tempeh - From Indonesia
OP here : Tempeh itself is a block of soybean fermented using certain fungus. It has high protein and suitable for vegan and vegetarians. It has soft-nutty flavor. Usually served with traditional chili sauce (sambal). Traditionally can be eaten with rice, or eat it as it is as snacks; But I've seen that some people use it as meat patty substitute on burgers.
Australia - Pavolva
It's basically a meringue bowl, filled to the brim with cream and fruits/berries. (Also I accidentally misspelled it and can't change it, it's actually Pavlova! Thanks to Ivan Ivanov for pointing it out because I didn't check.)
And notoriously debated on origin (kiwi here) 😉🤣
Load More Replies...Oops, that was an accident. I can't change the post now tho.
Load More Replies...Welsh Cakes. Cooked On My Great Grandmother's Cast Iron Welsh Bakestone. Biggest Plate I Could Find, I Usually Make 50-70 A Time, Twice The Size Of The Shop Ones And Taste A Lot Better. They Disappear Fast
Recipe: 8oz Self Raising Flour, 4oz Salted butter, 4oz Sugar, 4oz Currants and 1 Egg. My only other bit of advice is do not over cook, heat up your bakestone then down to just above low heat to cook. Cook on the outside never in the middle. They will carry on cooking after you take them off and they will not set for a few hours, so if the top and bottom are browned but look a little under done on the sides, you got it right. Work on your timing you only want to flip once or they will start to fall apart. Took me a while with a very good teacher to get them just right so forgive yourself if they are not perfect on the first few attempts. While still still hot put them on a plate of sugar, flip over, then off. When I was young we'd use an upside down cup as our cutter. We'd dust with granulated suger because caster sugar was an extra step and currants were cheaper than sultanas and easier to buy, not saying either is wrong, I'm just old and gray and love the way they tasted as a child.
I love Welsh cakes! They are so hard to find in a baker since I moved to the U.S. I guess I will have to make them myself on day!
US and UK flour differ, so look for a protein content of around 9%(dont go higher) and you will need to add baking powder and a pinch of salt to all purpose to make self raising

Load More Replies...Netherlands- Raw Herring With Raw Onion
After catching, the herring is gutted, salted and frozen on board. The herring is served with the tail attached and with diced raw onion as a dip. Traditionally you eat it in the street as shown in the picture. It sounds disgusting but it has a surprisingly creamy and subtle taste. As a vegetarian I don't eat it but I had to post it here... don't think any other country eats this.
Maybe not the exact same way, but in Estonia they eat a lot of Herring, and one dish, Heeringas hapukoorega, is raw herring with onion and sour cream. Never tried it when visiting Estonia though. xP
Load More Replies...This is half of my DNA, but It's definitely a hard pass for me. The onions I can get on board with. The herring, not so much.
I keep hearing that this place is filled with the happiest people on earth and yet, their traditional diet is so damn depressing.
That's because we have a lot of foreign restaurants- you can buy Chinese, Indonesian, Mexican, Indian, Italian, Middle Eastern and other food just about everywhere :-D. Especially younger ppl tend to not cook/ eat a lot of traditional food.
Load More Replies...I looooove haring! When we lived in NL, my husband would always get kibbeling (fried fish bits), and I would get my "broodje haring" - this ^, in a hotdog bun. Once, as I happily tucked into my treat, he looked over with a look of disgust and remarked, "You can see you have Dutch blood!" (My grandfather was Dutch.)
With raw, I meant that it's not cooked, grilled or anything OK maybe I should have put it like "raw".

I love potatoes any way! Mashed, boiled, fried, etc...honestly every potato in every technique is good.
Yeee! I have never smashed the "purchase" button on an item faster than I did on that magnet XD
Load More Replies...Instant meal: Clean and cook potato for four minutes in microwave. Smash it. (If it's done enough, it will smash easily). Cover in cheese. (For some extra protein, you can put cold cuts between potatoes and cheese. Cook another minute for the cheese to melt.
I do something similar, but after smashing it, I pan fry it with butter. Makes it crispy on the outside. Then top with bacon crumbles and cheese on top. Zap it for a minute to melt the cheese. Top with dollop of sour cream and chives

OH YES. When I was in my 20s, I used to go to dim sum all the time with my boyfriend's family. I loved everything, but the egg tarts were the BEST. I miss those days ;_; Boyfriend's parents are in their 80s now, so we don't really go out to eat with them any more XD

Rendang From Indonesia
Rendang is a delectable Indonesian dish that tantalizes the taste buds with its rich and aromatic flavors. This slow-cooked culinary masterpiece features tender chunks of meat, traditionally beef, cooked with an array of spices and herbs. The meat is simmered in a thick and fragrant coconut milk sauce, which gradually thickens and intensifies as it absorbs all the incredible flavors. The slow cooking process allows the flavors to meld together, resulting in a tender, melt-in-your-mouth texture and a deep, rich, and savory profile. The slow cooking process can take several hours, allowing the flavors to develop and intensify. This results in a dish that is incredibly tender, with the meat soaking up all the delightful spices. Served with steamed rice, rendang offers a truly indulgent experience. This dish was once awarded as the best food in the world.
Oreilles De Criss From Québec, Canada
Iran: Delicious "Ghorme Sabzi"
It's funny that I can easily think of foods that are borderline official foods of the various states I've lived in, but besides the bacon cheeseburger, I can't really think of the single, prototypical American food. The Philly (Pennsylvania) Cheesesteak. The New York Pizza (or cheesesteak, or strip steak). Rhode Island Quahogs. Connecticut Grinders (they're not what you think, they're foot-longs), Maryland Crabcakes. Maine Lobster Rolls. Texas Chilli or fajitas. Tennessee pulled-pork barbecue sandwich. Boston (Massachusetts) Baked Beans. California sushi rolls. Chicago (Illinois) Deep-dish "pizza" (a casserole). South Carolina grits.
