Wearing a suit won't turn me into a man, and wearing a dress won't turn a man into a woman. Honestly, I always felt bad for men who had to attend a formal event in high summer wearing clothing that covered them from neck to toe, while we women were comfortable in strappy mini-dresses. (This issue reverses somewhat in the dead of winter. It's hard to find formal clothing for women that keeps us warm, but not as hard as finding a suit that keeps you cool.)

Where was this? I'm curious because this seems (don't come at me, it's just my observation) to be a cultural/regional thing. I don't want to put my age here so I'll just say I'm about due for a midlife crisis as context. I didn't have this growing up. Kids wore what they wanted, played with what they wanted. Per my mom, that was what all the parenting books etc recommended back then and it makes perfect sense to me. Just let your kids be who they are. (PS my parents were conservative Christians

I think the objection comes from the relationships being introduced as normal or desirable. This is the only time in history that humans are normalizing null pairing, as in matches that result in no offspring. While homosexuality in all its fantastic variety has existed as long as recorded history and probably longer, those individuals expected to and often did go on to form heterosexual family units to produce children. Hetero relationships have been viewed as the "gold standard" for a millennia and those attitudes are deeply ingrained in societal structures.

Oh in Poland we have 'LGBT+ free zones', like WHOLE DISTRICTS, where the 'LGBT+ ideology' is banned to protect Polish traditional family values - like domestic violence, economic slavery and child abusing. I can cook. I did so since I was 15, because I wanted to. And, really surprising - my balls did not fall off, nor crimpled into some raisin-like remain of theirselves, nor did any other bad happen. Only effect I'm aware of is that I get decent food whenever I want. Uh, how'd that happen, eh? And I'm straight, even that didn't change.

I never quite understood the english "girlfriend". Can't boys have normal friends that are girls? The norwegian word for it, "kjæreste", leaves the gender out. It simply means "dearest".

Oh it gets better, this is a recent development in English. Not even a hundred years ago, "girlfriend" and "boyfriend" just referred to friends who were female or male respectively in most parts of the US. The shift didn't start happening until cinema started becoming prevalent and presenting the idea that these terms should have special meaning reserved only for one's premarital significant other.

This is more of a language problem. For example, for most Slavic languages (I am Czech) it is impossible to talk about someone without assigning them a gender "she" or "he". Not only we need this to refer to someone by noun, we also need it to "bend" the verbs and adjective accordingly. It is not sexist, it is simply built in our language over centuries. The only other option we could go for is calling them the neutral "it" but that would be straight rude as it would mean we think of that person as of a thing without life.

It's totally outdated now since almost all households have both adults working, but the "once in a while jobs" were men's jobs because in the past, men did almost all of the work outside the home, so the daily cleaning, cooking, etc., was for the women.

I have this nifty little jar opener on the bottom of one of my kitchen cabinets. Just stick the top up in it and twist. You can get one for a couple bucks on Amazon. I have found it to be a much more cost effective way to open my jars than needing a "man" around to do it for me.

You're a good man, my friend. My dad had my mom, me, and my sister. He used to say that all his money went to toilet paper and tampons LOL! I know you feel his pain! My husband is the same way, as in, he'll get me anything I need. We only have one kid, a 12 year old boy, but we're bringing him up to be that way, too. We're very open with him, and it's not a big deal to me, or him, for me to tell him I don't feel well because I have my period, or to even ask him to bring me a pad or something if I'm in the wrong bathroom (the one he shares with his dad; he hands or to me through the barely opened door, so it's not like he sees anything truly private lol). That's not something I ask him very often, and it's not like we have frequent, extended conversations about it. But I'm doing my best to normalize it, and educate him about it, and other related things. Because he'll have a girlfriend/wife, and maybe daughters too, one day. /1

Some of my friends/family who have come to Norway to visit get shocked that there are condoms at the check out counter at the grocery stores here, right next to the gum and candy bars. It's so fun to watch their faces. One friend's husband was so weirded out by naked statues in a museum, we made it a point to take him to Frogner Park. I think it was a successful exposure-therapy outing.

So a couple years ago I destroyed my leg, It was a mess involving years of surgeries and lots of home nursing and bloody gauze. etc. At home, I went to go throw the bloody gauze in the trash and the nurse said you probably need to put that in the container for human biohazards…I turned to her and asked how come I did not get that container once a month for my used tampons or pads??? She just stared at me with the weirdest look on her face. We are weird people

Fair enough, but I think there’s a difference between supporting people and carrying out a religious ceremony to your god. I think it’s totally reasonable to expect total support and respect of the LGBTQIA+ community from religious leaders, but to effectively go to their god and perform a ceremony that in their religion undermines their god isn’t necessary. If there are priests that believe that that is ok in their beliefs then all power to them to perform the marriages, but expecting it of someone I think is not necessary. Just my opinion btw, and I 100% support the LGBTQIA+ community

He wouldn't be the pope if he did that, I think. He is a catholic and its not necessarily that he doesn't want to, it's that he would be shamed by a lot of Catholics. The main reason that catholics don't support the LGBTQIA+ community is that God created people to reproduce and since that community cant reproduce, they cant be right. Yet if you are unable to have children, apparently that is a completely different story, which is wrong. Also if a priest is marrying people, in the very first meeting they have, the priest has to ask if the couple is willing to have children, if the couple says no the priest, according tp catechism, cannot marry them. Not saying I agree with all of this, I am just stating facts.

That's a bit of a different story. You have to still do your job regardless of your beliefs. If a doctor openly supports socialized healthcare but still charges his patients for his services are you going to call them a poser too? If a shop owner speaks out against the evils of capitalism but still makes his customers pay for their food are you going to call them a poser? Our jobs and our beliefs are two very different things, and sometimes you have to put the one above the other.

I believe that comes more from the fact that in his religion, the principles of marriage is to unite a man and a woman, which is something he cannot change (well, I ignore if he as the pope could actually change that) just like the other sacraments cannot be changed in their principles either. But at least he's showing a more tolerant posture than the Church did before. Now the only sin a gay couple will be committing is the sin of living together without being married, just like a non-married straight couple would lol Or are they actually saved from that, because the Church isn't even expecting them to actually get married?

Because most of the time a girl will stay a girl and a boy a boy. So to raise a child without the gender concept because it might want to switch at some point or don't choose a gender doesn't make sense for me. It was exiting for me to tell my baby's gender to my family (not revealing party by the way) because it makes it more true that there's a baby coming and you get to know a little bit more about this little human that's on the way. I don't think I would be raising a boy or a girl differently. but of course, the gender still makes a difference for the child in our society.

I don't know, partly I got, what you are saying... but on the other hand, I diasgree. there really is only two genders (for me sex and gender are the same wording i guess). But it doesn't mean, you need to be one you were born of course... If I'm pregnant, i would 'revela gender' too. But probably not use pink baloons or some other trash... It's only natural for parents to decorate the room for their baby as they want. What else should they do? Leave everything plain till their baby will grown up? Babies are the best because they really don't care about colours and type of toys. Its about, what we, as parents, will act when they star to have an oppinions and desires... Do your little girl want to play with robots and guns? Get her some... Do you boy want to be face painted as a butterfly? Sure thing!... Do your daugther show interests in cars? Why not?... Do your son show interest in ballet? Let him dance... Do some children bully your kid because he's diferent? Scold those brats!!!

I think gender reveal parties are ridiculous. However, gender is a real thing. It is a social construct. Humans are all born to societies. We function within that society. (Other mammals also have societies.) All societies have a concept of gender, so that means it is natural for humans to think about gender. If someone's sex at birth does not match the common gender, I have zero problem with them associating with the other. But for most kids, they will line up, and there is nothing wrong with recognizing that a baby is a little girl or little boy. The problem is when there is toxicity involved, like telling a boy he can't cuddle with a doll or that a girl can't play with legos, that sort of thing.

Put very simply: sex is the biological stuff, like genitals, hormones, and chromosomes. Gender is a wider spectrum that has to do with expression and presentation, like pronouns, names, and style of dress.

one guy I know felt SO threatened in his masculinity when he had to wear makeup after losing a contest. he literally had to wear mascara and eye shadow, and it was only in front of people we knew, and not even for a whole day. he's also a trump supporter tho, so no surprise.

I would imagine that a straight person's motivation for telling a gay person that it's okay to be gay is to let them know that the straight person is an ally. Probably not the most effective way of communicating that fact, but it sounds like a straight person who is trying.

One myth that needs to be dispelled is that gay relationships are always functional and healthy. I came across a guy on the bus who was upset. He was open to tell people his boyfriend beats on him and is trying to get him to lose his job. Apparently this guy just got out of jail from a domestic, physical fight. So... yeah, there's unhealthy relationships no matter what the orientation is.

Indeed and I worked with a homosexual male who went from unhealthy to gym rat, suddenly decided he was better than his partner, and started cheating left and right. Human relationships can be messy, being LGBTQ+ doesn't automatically make you superior in a relationship. However they're probably way better in one than I am. I will fully cop to that

My Dad was born in 1925 and raised on a farm. Served in WWII. My Mom was a stay at home Mom and did do more of the child-rearing activities. But my Dad never thought of it as solely her job. He made dinner most Sunday nights (pancakes and pizza mostly). He would tuck us in bed, give us rides. I was the baby, so I don't know if he changed diapers, but I'm sure he would have at least done it without hesitation if needed. He would never have called it "babysitting" when my Mom went out and he was home with us. I just don't understand men who don't think it's their role. Just spew the sperm out and walk away (even if in the same house). The generation is not the reason (or excuse).

It's like the whole Beauty and The Beast thing. You're not so special that you happen to be the one that breaks down the toxic personality of an abuser. As another analogy or example, the same trope is applied in equestrian movies with the one horse that ranch handlers are trying to "break" (tame/domesticate) but are unsuccessful, until a new visitor comes along (usually a soft spoken, angelic pretty girl) that seems to also be able to calm the horse and ride on it in no time.

Since donor blood is tested for everything (even a cholesterol check in my area of the States:-) I don't think this rule is necessary and is discriminatory. However, I'm not a doctor. Maybe another Bored Panda who is knowledgeable about why this is still a rule would be kind enough to let us know?

Truth. It's f****d up. Also, donated blood is tested for lots of things, include HIV. Most gay people don't have HIV, just like most straight people don't have HIV. Ditto for all other sexualities that men who have sex with men may identify with. To bar all sexually active men who sleep with men from donating blood is discrimination.

She hates your guts cuz you believe this is her place of work. I take a bit of pleasure in washing my own clothes, it's a sense of personal responsibility for my daily wearings.
