I was under the impression that all kinds of people from all kinds of financial backgrounds, at all kinds of stages of life, could live alone. Hmmm.

Yes, because when you live alone you can concentrate on studies and a good carreer, most important a job that makes you happy. And you don't spend a lot of money since you love your job and work a lot, when you got home you can enjoy the peace of your beautifull sweet home and recharge your batteries for the next day.

This is the most insane question I've heard someone ask. You know, people are successful in life and don't need to rely on someone else to co-depend with, right? I have lots of girlfriends/guy friends who have their own beautiful homes. It's called success...

Yes. If you work hard, it's not THAT impossible. I owned a home I bought myself at a young age. Never did the college and incur a ton of debt thing; I just wanted to work. I owned a big home in my twenties (then sold it so I could afford to become a full-time artist). Also, the women in these drawings could be in her late twenties, early thirties, at which time, of course she could afford it.

Maybe she didn't buy it. She might be renting, or have inherited it

It's not about the size or the lavishness of the house. Maybe you can afford such a house, maybe you can't. But you'll always have some peace and quiet when you want it. And I've known women who live alone in houses like that. So... yes, anything is possible 🙂

This illustration only shows the porch. It could be a small minimalist home or an older shotgun house. Either way this is my goal for my front porch either this fall or next spring. I love this one.

Why not ? If you are a bit handy you can even build a terrace/deck yourself.

Where I live you could get a house for like $30000 if you don't mind living a bit outside the city (like 20-30 minutes). And if you're lucky you can find a house closer to the city for abt $7-80000. Most houses are abt twice that price though, but again - if you're lucky. :)

That might also be a cabana or a small Bungalow. Tiny house for one person. I'd be down.

This is a porch, with a swing, plants and wind chimes. It may not be a large porch, it could be just a patio or balcony, or a small garden plot with a bench... it is what you make it, your own space. :-)

Obviously it depends on what you do for a living (and your paycheck) and where you live, but I always lived in houses, even when I was quite young, until I moved to LA. Now, not so much :(

Yep, if it's an older home that you have put all the work into yourself.

*I* don't, but my income is really quite low. I still rent a nice flat with a huge balcony, so... But I have a friend, she's ,.. I think she's in her early thirties. She bought a house when she was still in her twenties, with a garden and a cellar and two floors and even a (small) porch. She has a car (new) and two dogs and even a thermomix, and she's not even a businesswoman or model or something. Steady income, good investments, a bit of luck and of course clever financing and a lot of handy-work for renovations make it possible. I think it's a bit idealistic to think that two incomes equal more money for a house. Because usually one of the incomes is lower than the other, there is the very real possibility of kids in the (near) future and more people cost more money.

Daria, where did that question come from even? Yes, you actually can. Sometimes it's even easier to do it as a single, than being married or married with children. If you have a career going, then you are making good money and can afford quite a lot. You don't need other half to be successful.

Depends a bit... on your area, on your background, on your job. Seems this person is an artist so likelihood is that they don't earn that much money, unless they do it on the side of course. My first guess would be: low cost area and parents who help or old money perhaps. It might just be an idealization, too. Where I live now it costs me 1500 Eu to rent a house (we bought one because it's cheaper - half of that price. Literally. The logic escapes me too). But that is in the city.

You are making assumptions that the picture does not support. This could be a very modest little cottage. And why assume that every woman that lives alone is in some minimum-wage job and needs a man to help her financially? Maybe this lady is a video-game developer, a real-estate agent, a surgeon -- there are many beautiful, professional women that are quite capable of supporting themselves financially, and that enjoy the solitude of being on their own.

A house like that? I don't understand. What I see is a corner of a porch with a swing, a wind chime and a beautiful arrangement of plants with a small table that could be picked up at any garage sale of resale store. And it looks, by the shadows, that there is some ivy growing along the railing. I don't see anything there that isn't attainable at all with a little effort.
