Clar Hart started Exploding Lobster Comics as a personal challenge during a difficult time in her life. “I started this comic when I was struggling with depression and a couple other things in my life. I hadn't drawn in a long time and I wanted to get back into it, so I thought a comic would be a way to encourage myself,” she explains.
So with company do you tap a .... vein? (/vvv\) :)

Hart spends about two to three hours a week brainstorming ideas, often sending them to a friend to see if they land. “Then finishing the drawing is another 1–2 hours,” she notes. This careful balance ensures that each strip is sharp, witty, and accessible, with clean lines, expressive characters, and bright colors that complement the humor rather than overshadow it.
Fans of Exploding Lobster Comics will recognize Hart’s signature themes, now given a seasonal spin. Whether poking fun at Halloween costumes, revisiting childhood memories of autumn treats, or capturing the quiet absurdities of fall routines, the comics maintain the relatable tone that has always resonated with readers. “I try to create things that I enjoy, which means lots of books, cats, spiders, and general coziness. I've been grateful to have a little corner of the internet to put spiders in tea cups and write ghostly proposals,” Hart says, showing how her personal joys subtly shape her seasonal storytelling.
For those discovering the comics for the first time, Hart’s work is both familiar and fresh. Influenced by creators such as JL Westover (Mr. Lovenstein), Chris McCoy (Safely Endangered), Zach Stafford (Extra Fabulous), Sarah Andersen, and Hannah Hillam, she blends sharp observational humor with playful absurdity. As she reflects, “I hope people enjoy the comic. It's been fun to make, so as long as people keep enjoying it, I'll keep making it. It's always great to hear when a comic really hits home. Thanks to everyone who's stopped by.”
A surprising number of our annual celebrations are rooted in pre-Christian seasonal celebrations - as, for instance, a surprising number of the old gods were born at the Winter Solstice, apparently. And ask your friendly neighbourhood Wiccan about Beltane ...
Ostra/easter and the origin of bunnies and eggs.. though eggs are also for passover with jews, round the same time of year. Lots of overlaps.

Trunk or treat started in the 1990s, primarily within churches, as a safer alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. It was created to provide a more controlled and less scary environment, especially for young children, and to address concerns about safety, stranger danger, and the gore often associated with modern Halloween celebrations. The concept gained popularity and spread from churches to other community groups, schools, and businesses due to its appeal for a variety of reasons, including being ideal for rural areas with homes far apart and for working parents who can't get home before trick-or-treating is over.
When I was a kid, in a fairly rural area, the "big town" had Trick or Treak Aroung the Square. That was fantastic. Wouldn't have had trick or treat at all, otherwise.

🙄 Trust a conservative religious weirdo to waste a day off on something like that.

That's why we have all the celebrations - to balance the fact that it's getting colder every day ...
The increased darkness really throws me off, my insomnia gets bad, the weird sleep doesn't help depression and I don't care what "experts" say going back to standard time only makes it worse i never have gotten acclimated to it in my 39 years it has never felt natural to me..anyway that's my rant for this morning🙃 im actually greatful for every day, life is beautiful if you want it to be, tell someone you love them today, be well everyone
And when you're older, it means the discomfort of having to drive more at night when your vision isn't as good

I added a skelly cat to my Halloween decor collection this year! His name is Dougal! (I already have three small skeleton dogs: Max, Sammy, and Daisy, and my gigantic skeleton doggo Big Jake, and a zombie wolf named Alastair)

Eat up each of the year's opportunities to kick back and be yourself - with your friends ofc !
If you have friends, and aren't doing some sort of festival of lights at Christmastime, you're f****n up.
A colleague came to work dressed as a zombie once, and our uniformed team mate thought that the make up was bruising and was all set to arrest the husband 😂
Maybe they missed the context, but its often good to look out for trouble before trouble comes knocking

I've seen stores pushing the feast of lord mammon as early as August
Because Halloween doesn't have nearly the retail clout that Xmas does.

Ive had a Christmas song stuck in my head for the past 3 weeks at LEAST. It’s entirely my friend’s fault for playing it so early. (The song is Christmas Evel which is super catchy but still)
