"We are task orientated" absolutely true! we respond better with, "can you get me a blanket?" our brain process that faster than "I'm cold" statement.

I suspect a reasonable percentage of women would not know this. Good advice.

This is definitely something everyone needs to remember, that guys can be mentally ill and have body issues and insecurities the same way everyone does and it's important to accept that and give them the space they need to express that

I think everyone does this, I'm a girl and I zone out sometimes thinking about something random and then I realize I've been staring at someone all that time

Lucky you. I had my hairdresser tell me I looked like a junkie because I had let my hair grow out. Needless to say I didn't visit her again.

I laughed at this for way too long, because I can't think of a single time I tied something down and didn't say that.

And it also smells nice. I think shampoo smells better than most of the expensive perfumes.

Throw things to us. Like the TV remote or the car keys. Or a cup of coffee. It does, however, depend on our level of trust in the t****r's tossing skill.

Yeah. Sometimes they just happen. At very unfortunate times. As a teenager it would almost invariably happen while in church. And no, it had nothing to do with what was happening during the sermon!

MUST you say that to EVERY one of these? It's so dismissive! Here we are constantly telling men to express themselves and when they do, they last thing they need is a woman shouting "oh yeah well that's not so special" at everything they say.

But please say that. "Hey, give me a few minutes to chill out and then I'll be all ears and ready to help". (Speaking as someone who has the social skills of a dead rat)

Yeah, just because someone “stays home” all day doesn’t mean it’s been peaceful and simple for that domestic partner.

I understand that men need down time.. that's actually a given for everyone. But when you, as the wife, have worked a full day, done the shopping, wrangled the kids and are in the middle of cooking dinner...understand that we have not had down time either. So when this situation is present..throw your butt in the mix and help. That way everyone gets well deserved down time after the responsibilities have been addressed.

Honestly, this took me forever to learn with my husband! It might not be a male/female thing, but it is definitely a personality/work environment thing. I come home and I start telling my husband about my day before I even make sure he's home, so sometimes it's just the cat listening. He gets stressed if I even ask how his day was before he has at least 10 minutes to himself. He spends all day talking, I often work alone so we unwind in different ways.

This is me and my husband! He stays home, is alone most of the day, and re-energizes by talking. I need quiet and alone time, especially after working in a full classroom!

Very true with the exceptions of my animals, i want my dog's with me on the sofa when i get home to do nothing, i can't relax when at home until my animals are lying with me. My wife is the same, she likes some me time too.

True for women, too. Same with waking up in the morning. Let us wake up a bit before you start talking and wanting us to think.

My husband likes to tell me about all the news stories that pissed him off during the day the second I walk through the front door. Some days I'd like to give him a smack.

Yeah that would be great but as a woman you get home from work and there's more work at home that needs to be tended, don't men feel that pressure?

Your domestic partner could probably use that sort of break too though. I completely understand the need for a quick zone out or rest after a long day, but just because someone “stays home” all day, ESPECIALLY if there are children and/or house upkeep involved, this doesn’t mean they haven’t had just as much an annoying or stressful day.

Exactly, so true! Women are the opposite, we want to immediately vent and talk about what we need to do at home.

In an ideal world, everyone should have an opportunity to have 20-30 minutes of downtime. Also, make sure you're reciprocating that same peace to your partner.

I'm a bit like this just that I sometimes like to walk after work with no intended place I want to be, I just sort of wonder around to unpack after work, I've had arguments about this before, because if I don't have plans with my partner then I don't really feel the need to inform her that I'm just walking around(which probably sounds mental anyway).

I learned this from watching my friend's marriage fail. She would lay into him the second he walked through the door. He even asked her "Please, I just need 5 minutes". Instead of telling her to lay off him for a bit, I just sat back and said nothing. (didn't feel it was my place) Kinda glad I did tho...she was trash. Now he's in a great relationship.
