My name is Rose Larson and don’t tell anyone but I’m over 85. This past year there were inauguration protests that I wonder why we would be wasting so much money. My mother taught me not to waste money. When my sister parents and I went through the Great Depression we were frugal with all we had. I can just picture my mom pointing her finger at me and saying, “What were you thinking?”

We just saw pictures of many thousands of women wearing pink at the Dump Trump Rallies in Washington DC, and in cities all around the country, marching in protest against the duly elected President of this great country just last year.

One of the wonderful Grandmothers came all the way from Hawaii with her daughters and granddaughters to be present at the protest activities. With a return airfare of $1,137 per person, hotel costs of $300+/night, meals and taxi/bus transportation the cost for a party of seven could easily exceed $12,000.

Organizers said they drew nearly 5 million protesters in all, far surpassing their crowd expectations. The demonstrations also highlighted strong discontent over Trump’s comments and policy positions toward a wide range of groups, including Mexican immigrants, Muslims, the disabled and environmentalists. TV news claimed that there were 100,000 women and supportive men at the rallies. Some, of course were residents of the Greater Washington metro area, so their costs were much lower. Let us assume that the average cost of attending this pink rally was $100.

My arithmetic seems to show that as much as ten million dollars may have been expended. The flooding of this much cash into the economy has some benefits to hospitality and transportation workers, but a significant amount of the cash flow ended up in corporate coffers. If it was 5,000,000 in attendance at a cost of $10, a monumental FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS disappeared.

Just remember the operation of the congress and the administration makes the policy decisions that are implemented – a joint effort. The time-honored practice of filibustering has destroyed the agenda of almost every president.

The pay to play system of congress people is fixed in place and it will take more than marches and protests to change it.
