Giving unique names is surely a new trend. In the past, parents used to name their kids with the most popular names (like William in Britain). This resulted in half of Great Britain's boys' names being the same. Imtiaz says, "This is because naming conventions were founded in religious and ancestral ties. For example, scriptural names were popular, and English Puritans sometimes named their children after moral attributes, such as Faith or Mercy." Similarly, in Islamic countries, children's names tend to be religion-related, like Muhammad, after the Holy Prophet.

I interacted with this lady for work once, and had to ask if she was vaccinated. Her response was "Jesus wasn't vaccinated so..." She had just previously informed me of her husband being a part who was previously running a church in Central Florida before they moved to where they are, she mentioned their "giant" TV and having to use their new big SUV to get it home because it wouldn't fit in her car she just got, and her son was at the lake house down the road. The legal offices will be extremely busy when all these people grow up and can legally change their names.
With the way things are going, I think in future it would be children with normal names getting made fun of for their 'unique' names.
I had the same thought. Not about getting made fun of, per se, because I still think "traditional" names will have enough presence to be normal, but the more the tragedeighs happen, the most normalized it will be until eventually nobody will think twice about it. I say this as someone with a name that was super uncommon when I was a kid. I had to tell people how to pronounce it all the time, and I definitely got made fun of. But then, when I was a teenager, all of a sudden my name got really popular. I never get asked about it anymore, although it has been a victim of tradjedeigh spelling, so I always have to spell it for people. Kids with that name are definitely not getting made fun of now like I did. And on the one hand, it's nice to be able to find stuff with my name on it now, but on the other hand, I kind of miss having a name that's a conversation starter.

Went to school with a kid whose family last name was "Battles'. His name was Major. Sounded like a history book. His younger brother, who was the second child, was name El Segundo. Major used to get mad when we called his brother "number two" (as in poop) despite that being the literal translation.

When I was pregnant with our first, we proudly told my boundry stomping MIL we had picked a "beautiful" unisex name and were sticking with it, whatever the gender. It was so bad she didn't even post it on FB, lol. We had a great laugh for a week or so until we told her it was a joke.
A few years ago, I read that NZ had to actually make LAWS to keep parents from naming their kids c**p like this. Because they were getting so many requests from KIDS even, to change their names. The girl the article was specifically writing about was "Lula From Talula Likes To Hula. 100% legit her name (based on a news article, I think was from a legit news source, but don't quote me there)

I remember having to read The Outsiders by SE Hinton in high school, and we had a discussion about the odd names in the book, and what that tell us about the parents of the characters. Names like Ponyboy, Sodapop, Those are quite normal compared to so many of the ones I just read.
After this, the name LaSteroid Daddy Hack IV doesn't bother me at all.
On the flip side, these kids will probably grow up tough enough to whip their weight in wildcats.

But Mrs. TriSec is of Basque extraction, and we toyed with using the Basque spelling of "Xabier" (pronounced the same.) Only in America, he'd be "X-avier", and that's not what we wanted. So, Spanish spelling it is.
