Just FYI though, you shouldn't touch wild baby mammals that are considered prey by other animals. Bird mams can't smell you on their babies, but deer mamas can and the could abandon their baby.
Yes, unfortunately you are absolutely right. Touching the baby deer is basically sentencing him to death. In the Czech Republic we have a lot of signs in the nature, warning us not to do that. The right thing to do is to call the rescue station.

What is it with people that any other animal can come and touch any other animal and they will not be abandoned, but if it's a person they abandon it. Humans should not be here. Why is it only our smell that does that?

Omg this is like my nightmare coming true. I was once attacked by a vicious group of goose and turkey when I was a kid. I saved my life on the scaffolding nearby. I swear, this is like my worst childhood dreams captured by a camera :D
