39 Most Ridiculous 70’s Swedish Band’s Album Covers, And Best Thing About It – It Wasn’t A Joke
The Swedes are stylish and trend-conscious folk, a brief walk around Stockholm's bars and cafes will confirm that they have embraced the 'hipster' phenomenon to the absolute max. And if these 70's album covers are anything to go by, they took the dubious fashion trends of that decade to hilarious extremes as well.
Perhaps it is that innate Scandinavian desire to conform, and to do it better and more completely than everyone else. What else can explain these gloriously cheesy matching outfits? The medly of moustaches and mullets? Those ball-huggingly tight pants? Of course, we will look back at ourselves in 40 years time and wonder what the hell we were thinking. But hopefully not to this extent!

Holy sheet! That 4th guy is SCARY!! I wouldn't date ANY of them!! I don't care if they DO claim to be a bunch of white playas! "PLAYA BLANCA" near the bottom....hehehehehe. NOPE! "Dansgladje" translates to 'dance slipper.' Not sure what this means tho.

Like the text said, forty years from now people will be laughing at some of the present artists/bands. I already am.
I'm not from Sweden but I do work for a Swedish company. Thanks for this post -when some of my Swedish colleagues p**s me off again, I'd imagine them on a terrible album cover in freaky clothes xD

great, now I need to buy at least 47 new albums... I aint got time for that...
Its because of Swedish Tax law at the time though the us was similar (Liberace) and Elton John in the UK. To claim clothes back they had to be a. Too extreme/hideous/unsuitable for normal wear or B. Be part of an established look or image
Magnus Uggla and Reeperbahn do not really fit in here, their music is completely different. The other ones are music made to dance close to eachother.
This was mainly due to a tax law where you were able to evade the VAT for "stage-clothes". But the law was very clear that the clothes had to be strictly stage-clothes. Therefore these groups had to make these extreme clothing and after a while it became a standard for dance bands in Sweden.
Honestly, the 70's weren't kind to anyone fashion-wise..it's not just the Swedes who suffered. :)
After viewing these, I'm left with the question, what was in the water supply back then????
Years ago, in the infancy of the internet, I found a site that featured this same thing. There is definitely bigger and, um, better(?) out there.
