While “texting” used to mean sending SMS messages, the term has been expanded to cover really most messaging services that many of us use on a daily basis. Fortunately, the word “texting” has pretty long legs and still does cover most of the things we might use it for.

The “Funny Texts” Facebook page is dedicated to both the amusing messages that people have sent and relatable memes in general. So get comfortable as you scroll through, upvote your favorites, and be sure to comment your thoughts below.

That one hits me hard. Watched it happen to my Great Grandmother. I suspect it runs in the family so she won't be the last.

The core of a good meme, beyond humor or creativity, is that kernel of relatability. Richard Dawkins, who coined the phrase meme, envisioned it as a viral idea that spread from person to person much like a virus. However, what he didn’t expect was the fact that much of this information would center around humor and that the internet is an incredibly potent vector for “infection.”

Part of the appeal is that the ideas carried by the meme either focus on a shared experience or emotion or work with familiar information and context. This comes from the high degree of intertextuality that memes possess. After all, we can generally understand the situations depicted in memes through our own life experiences, other memes, or just general knowledge of the world.

At a certain point, memes have become self-referential. If you have ever had to explain a meme to an older relative or someone “less online,” you will know that internet lore is deep. Some memes require a person to understand multiple other references, just to understand the context needed to enjoy certain memes.

It's not the money going out to inconsequentials, it's the fact that every generation since the boomers has been consistently underpaid.

I can't even pick mean dialog options in video games, this isn't even remotely true.

This is generalized A LOT. My husband is the 1/5 and I'm 5/5 and he's not mean and neither am I. I should know, we've been together 35+ years.

That's me. And my wife and I have no kids. My siblings are always mad at me for not helping out more now that we are all adults and say I abandoned them after I went to college. You bet your behind I did.

My older brother is snarkier, but I'm the first to go for the jugular. We team up beautifully.

I think this is true. My sister is the oldest of four kids. She said we are the reason she never wanted kids, and she never had kids, and I think she woud have made a great mother. I didn't know any better, my brothers totured me!

My older sister and her wife basically adopted me after they got married lol and I'm very grateful! They wanted kids but couldn't afford it, and my parents were fine with financing my growing up but didn't want me around 🤷‍♀️

In my case, the oldest sibling is the worst. He had 3 years of undivided attention, plus he was born ill bc of serological conflict and sadly didn't die in pain. I was the youngest and parents don't even know my blood type. I'm 35 and still don't know it.

I am technically the oldest, but I'm neither mean, nor resentful at helping my mum raise my siblings. I chose to take on responsibility and I feel proud when my sister says I'm her second mum.

You were a child parent? So you had to pay the bills for your kids, buy food, prepare it, serve it, then tidy up, do the laundry, the cleaning, clean bathroom nd kitchen everyday, you looked after the garden, kept the house not just tidy but child safe, did repairs around the house, you dressed your siblings, took them to school, to extra lessons, to sport, football on the weekends, kids parties, you threw their birthday parties, you consoled them, you looked after all their needs , you nursed them when they were ill, you stayed with them in the hospital, you paid for their education? I get it, it must have been hard for you.

I was just a kid when I became asst. mom. Always getting punished for not setting good examples. Growing up way too fast because adult-level responsibilities blurred childhood. FYI, an oldest should never get into a serious relationship with a youngest. It's doomed.

You don't even need to be the first born; it's sufficient to simply be the oldest sibling still living with your parents.

Oh, I'm so sorry if this happened to you. My brothers would barely speak to me. I really cannot remember a single serious conversation I had with either of them. One's dead the other is almost 80. Good riddance.

I was the third kid of 5, the only interaction I had with my older brother (which was the first born) was a couple of times he played a prank on me.

It doesn't always happen that way, I became my older brother's caregiver after he became a quadriplegic. I was parentified before that though, neither my mom nor brother was ever very adult. In some ways, I did it on purpose because someone had to be an adult in our family.

Um, yeah. Everything is our fault and all the pressure is placed on our shoulders. Also, even though we’re basically raising our siblings, we’re still the kids and our parents are the adults. Like, okay bish, then how about you raise my siblings for a change. Not bitter about it at all, though, totally not. At the same time, I’m not mean. My little sister gets away with murder. She is a bit mean.

Oldest are more responsible because parents are try to do everything perfect and are scared, youngest get away with everything cuz parents are tired, and they want things to be fair so they get stuff earlier. Only children are individuals who are less keen to share and more independent.

Not true. First gets away with murder, second child has all the rules enforced as a result of the first’s shenanigans and the third, well parents give up by that point

My experience is the complete opposite, I am the oldest of 3 sisters and I never got away with shìt and I feel like I was disciplined way worse and more because I was the guinea pig for my parents to learn how to parent. My youngest sister def got away with murder and could do whatever. My middle sister and I bond over the fact the baby had it the easiest but middle still had it easier than me.

Parents? You mean you entertained siblings?? Did you take care of health insurance, school registration and transportation, winter coats, shoes, summer and winter clothes, braces, eye glasses, doctor or dentist appointments, or anything besides that playing a game with them?

My mother also. Used to pick her up every Saturday for breakfast and shopping. Pulled in the driveway one beautiful summer day and she opened the door, holding her phone, saying "Oh...nevermind. She's here now." When she got in the car I asked who she was talking to and she said "The police." I asked WHY??? and she said because I was late and I was never late so she thought something happened. I replied that I had TOLD her I'd be late because I had a dentist appointment. She said "Ohhhh....that's right! Where do you want to go to eat?".

Omg I feel this. My parents performed only the required parenting duties which did not include extra curriculars, displays of love, compassion, encouragement etc. and I love them but my adult life has been very difficult to navigate.

I tell my daughter this but she’s too busy hoping her bf is something he’s not so it goes in one ear and out the other. I hope she realizes before she puts ten years in waiting for change.
