30 Wild Solutions To Problems That Got Celebrated In The ‘Redneck Engineers’ Group (New Pics)
Say what you want, but the brilliance of human creativity knows no limits and no bounds, after all, we even managed to get some folks right to the moon, and it's been how many years since then?
Still, whether it's crafting next-level rocket tech at Space X or NASA or even whipping up some handy home hacks, human genius admittedly just keeps on giving... But let's be real here, not every invention needs to revolutionize our existence; sometimes, just making day-to-day life a bit easier does the trick... mostly speaking.
A subreddit by the name of r/RedNeckEngineering is a very good example of that. Why, you might think? Well, the charm is in the motto: "if it looks dumb but works, then it's not dumb."

Quick Bench
Well, if they attached the individual parts together, it's a good idea. If they didn't , it's a bad idea.
I cure my firewood on that kind of rack. The logs find it comfortable.
Our neighbors have this. It’s not stupid if it works and it matches the vibe of their backyard

This is redneck engineering at it's finest! Redneck engineering is usually ingenious and resourceful in the vein of a wannabe MacGyver. That is, unless it involves alcohol, explosives, or a combination thereof. Then, it usually devolves quickly onto the list of really dumb ways to die.
This is great til you go through a doorway ! I only know cause I have a very big sun hat and when I wear it I get bumped around in doorways!
Repaired My Glasses After They Broke During A Camping Trip
My mother is still using the fuse wire fixed abominations. And she's got a new pair. "But they still work!" She's not wrong, but it makes her look as if there's nobody looking after her...

My Father-in-Laws friend had the same thing happen to him. He found a paperclip and fit it back together. He didn't think to bend the paperclip around or down, so he walked around with an unfolded paperclip sticking up the side of his face for months. I still giggle when I think about it.

All you have to do is slap Calvin Klein on those and you could sell them for $1000
As we mentioned previously, at r/RedNeckEngineering, they’ve really got a knack for making things work with whatever’s lying around... So it's no surprise really that It’s the go-to spot for anyone who’s ever used a little elbow grease and some random bits to fix something up. Like picture a backyard setup held together with nothing but bricks and boards—that’s the kind of thing you’d see here.
McDonald's Bag As A Sun Shield To Keep From Getting A Redneck
I've worked long hours in beating sun, and I always covered my head, neck, and upper back with an old white t-shirt ripped to form a triangle that I'd tie around my head and let dangle to mid-back. The key is to wet it and keep it wet.
My husband uses those blue shop paper towels in his hard hat like this.
My dad stapled a piece of T shirt to the back of his hat for this reason 😂
Transferring Air
It’s a mini split system and the condenser is outside
Load More Replies...I used dryer vents and duct tape to do the same because the bedroom in a horrid little back-in-the-day flat was stifling. Now, I use fans to circulate the single AC unit through my present flat.
It doesn't work. Air doesn't "bend" or "turn". Sorry. Compressible fluids dynamics.
Girlfriend Wont Go Camping? This Will Help
Having used a 'potty bucket' in my van for many years, I'd recommend putting the "cushion" under the plastic. I'll leave it to y'all to figure out why.
Tell you what, there've been a few camping trips where I would've been grateful for this bucket/toilet.
So yeah, say what you want but these people are the heroes of the quick fix, turning a simple paper bag into a sun shield or using pliers when they’ve lost the proper part for their car battery. They’re the people who look at a problem and say, “I can sort that out,” with whatever’s in the toolbox—or the kitchen drawer because it's all about creativity at the end of the day.

They have their priorities correct. A/C all the way!! You could hang meat in there!!
The Foldable Tub Cabinet
This is actually a very good space saver! Would be useful in small apartments.
It reminds me of the hand basin in my compartment on the Drakensberg Express. The basin pulled down to use, and putting it back up after emptied it (I'm assuming a clever bit of pipework because it didn't end up on the floor)

We believe you already understood, but let's make the point clear—It’s all about that “get it done” spirit. Like, say, someone needs a hat to block out the sun, and all they’ve got is construction foam? No problem, they make it into a hat. Or when someone’s got to keep a car battery connected, and all they’ve got is an old pair of pliers and some wire? They just make it work, no questions asked.

They did actually make a boat with the body of a SsangYong SUV. It was hilarious!

There Are Worse Workarounds
I've had windshield wipers fly away. No warning. Just left in the middle of their shift while I'm miles from my destination. This is a extraordinary fix until you can swing by the auto parts store.
Hvac On 2nd Floor Went Out, But Not On The 1st. Rigged This Up To Pull Cold Air From Downstairs' To Upstairs Lol
Ugh. Trying to sleep in the heat is nasty, so this is an impressive solution.
This subreddit isn't about fancy gadgets or the latest tech. It’s about showcasing those little wins, like figuring out how to stay in the shade or squeezing a little more life out of something that’s falling apart (literally). So yeah Pandas, it's all about being clever with what you have and having a good laugh while you’re at it, if you know what I mean.
Battery Clamp
If this is the temp fix to get you to the store to by proper connectors then is it brilliant.
Not stable - the zip-tie will work its way up the pliers, loosening them. Use locking pliers
I won't snark at this because the mine I once worked at we had an old truck with no steering wheel, just two vice grips clamped on the shaft 180° apart.
I know mechanics who've seen worse. Again, in a pinch, excellent idea, but I wouldn't trust it long term.
My Dad's Makeshift Antenna He Made Out Of Clothes Hangers And It Works Btw
I read an article about antenna design awhile back (can't find the source now) and it said it doesn't need to be neat, it just needs to cover a large area. A large, messily scrunched up ball of wire will work just as well as half a dozen neat rods.
Load More Replies...They have stronger hangers now. At least I think they are mine are covered in silicon.
I seen this or something similar to this when digital first coming out.
I liked certain college radio stations that introduced new music, but getting them in could be sketchy, esp. in bad weather. A DYI antennae was a must.
Had Trouble Touch Typing Because I Couldn't Feel The Tiny Bumps On My F And J Keys, So I Made Them... Bigger
I do this on every keyboard I have. Except I use little squares of the "scratchy" half of Velcro so it's dead easy to feel.
It's for touch typing. If you're a decent typist who doesn't need to look at the keyboard while typing, the bumps are landmarks to help you keep track of where your fingers are.
Load More Replies...They do! My current keyboard has small raised lines on the F and J keys. They serve as a reference point for touch typing. I don't really use them as I tend to quickly look back and forth between the screen and the keys, but there are people who don't need to look at all.
Load More Replies...Since I watch things on my TV via a computer connection, I have to use the keyboard in the dark. So, I covered the keys most used/necessary with correction fluid. It wears down, I reapply.

Wife Doesn't Like The Bubbadet
Can confirm, I have lived in Tennessee my whole life and bubba is indeed a redneck name.
Load More Replies...This one made me laugh :D It's the kind of thing my eccentric dad might've rigged up!
He's implying that it's redneck so instead of Bidet he calls it a Bubba-det. Bubba is a name everyone thinks of as a typical dumb hick.

Yup. That's one nice blue van. Too bad about the El VW in the foreground.
Almost did this to my s-10 because the tailgate latch was completely stuck but I got a decent offer on it instead

What You Know About That Sweet Tea?
This is not that uncommon, actually. Bigger restaurants make up multiple tubs a day. Obviously they bought them new to use only for storing tea and nothing else.
I worked at a kids camp where they did this with kool aid since we were serving 300 kids. Easy way to mix a lot.

Air Con For Those With No Options
The esky (cooler box) looks like a six pack one. So not very big. Side note these sort of coolers don't work that well and they tend to raise the humidity over time which just adds to the problem.

I did something similar to this for my rabbit in the summer. It worked great, just needed new ice every couple hours on really hot days.

If you live alone, no problem. If you have a family living with you, I hope they're staying at grandma's house.
Load More Replies...I'm actually much more concerned that they've rigged up a 120V receptacle with 220V service. I've done it myself (for temporary purposes) but I'm an engineer.
I am curious how you can tell it is a 120V receptacle. The outlets in the Philippines are 220 and they look just like our (USA) 110s on the outside. Here in the USA a 220 looks different on the pin orientation but not everywhere.
Load More Replies...I'm thinking, well, that's not a guaranteed electrical fire...then I notice...220...then I notice the black cord appears to be attached to a space heater. Hope the survivors are smarter than whoever created this de@thtrap.
N95 Mask Is Now The Air Filter On My Cpap Machine
Man, during the very height of covid I went to pick up my prescriptions and some lady was allowed to stand at the vitamins and clear her throat constantly. I made a comment and she claimed to have two doctorates so she knew that masks keep you from breathing. Doctor, it was 1 in the afternoon and you hadn't changed your shirt in a couple days. I have a few doubts.
Load More Replies...I recognize that model, because I had it. That's a Dreamstation. Recalled because of dangerous foam inside the unit. When I called up with mine, they sent me a brand new Dreamstation 2 for nothing.
It's fine, if a bit awkward. The air filters on cpap machines are just to catch dust / hairs / lint from getting into the fan mechanism. they are not really for filtering the air you are breathing. The filters on both of my cpap machines are just tiny rectangles of poly filter. No blue plastic frame like the one in the photo. I get new ones with the other consumable parts (mask, hose) but I could easily cut my own out of any basic filter material.

The Previous Owners Of My House Used A Coffee Can As A Piece Of Dryer Ductwork
I once saw a Pepsi can in the engine of a VW Beetle on the freeway. A coffee can duct seems almost like a factory recommended part by comparison.
vw owners do that to cover the coil on open engines. it keeps the coil dry and makes it run smoother. i used a baked bean can on my old vw bus

Is it a tiny house that's covered in cardboard to protect the outside? Or is it a tiny house MADE of cardboard? It's on the same size trailer as most tiny homes, but I suspect it wasn't built by a professional. That front window is frowning. :(
Probably just as strong as most "real" caravans anyway. Had a mate who built them for awhile, they're flimsy as hell.

This would be a quick death, better than many other kinds of traps. If you've had a mouse infestation you'll know that there's really no other option besides killing them, unless you're committed to trapping them, then driving miles away from homes and releasing the mice. Oh, and if you're using a trap you need to get the mice out of the trap within a few hours or they'll die of dehydration. So, yeah, all things considered, electrocution is not a terrible option.

Load More Replies...Our desks are a bit "redneck engineering". We realized that a countertop is way more durable than any regular desktop, and that kitchen cabinets are both more roomy and more stable than the spindles they call "legs" on most desks. So we set up our desks as 8-foot countertops held up on either side by kitchen cabinets with drawers. Tons of leg room, tons of storage space, tons of work space, will probably last longer than the house itself.
We have a weird layout in our kitchen, we just bought a 6 foot long workbench like you'd put in a workshop and put it under windows in our kitchen - game changer!
