As an "also pale af", I was happy about the palette in the picture, then realized what I thought would match my skin tone wasn't makeup, it was the sponge :-/

That looks like a problem with the way they label makeup. That’s not remotely the color of porcelain. I’ve seen makeup in the store that looks way lighter than that called porcelain.
I tried porcelain once, super pale stuff too, and it was too dark. This is why I just said no to makeup. Don't need foundation anyway.

I'm from a country where everyone tans easily… except from me. I have been mocked relentlessly because of it. And not just from acquaintances. Apparently, being pale, gives strangers the right to approach you and give you unsolicited advice while showing an overdramatized expression of disbelief and horror. Yes, random lady, I'm sure -as I have been trying to explain you for the last five minutes- more exposure to the sun won't give me a "healthy tan". My skin color is not "unhealthy", do you know what's unhealthy? Melanoma. Anyways, be comfortable on your own skin, both literally and metaphorically. Plus, asians age better not just because of good genes, they know the secret is sunscreen, lots of it.
I had a bf in hs who told me I could tan " just like his sister's" if I just sat in the Sun. I told him " your sister's are Mexican, I'm Irish!" he just didn't get it.

born and living in tropical country, I don't really understand the obsession with tanned skin. Probably that's the same like a pale person asking what's with all the whitening skin products. :p
I think it's not about the tan as much as it is about the status. Tanning means you had the luxury of making a trip to the beach and take time off just sunbathing. It's like the opposite (being super pale) was status back when poor people spent the day working outside and rich people could afford to just sit indoors all the time. I think it's also similar to how painted nails are a sign that you can afford to not only get them done but also not use your hands much at work or at home. I live in Brazil and people are still obsessed with tans in any city that doesn't have a beach, even though you'd tan just from walking down the street at 2pm.

I wish I could post a photo of a pair of leggings I purchased. They’re pink and when I took a photo, it looks like I’m naked.
I loved these and I can totally relate as someone with very light skin. I had a friend tell me I needed to get a darker shade of foundation because mine was so light it was washing me out. I wasn't wearing foundation, that's just what my skin looks like in the winter. My "tan" is other people's "pale".
