When it comes to drawing comics, the artist can choose to spend hours working on one comic that has quite a few panels; however, sometimes just one panel is more than enough to convey the idea one had in mind. Artist Scott Hilburn proves exactly that with his single-panel newspaper comics called “The Argyle Sweater” which are in their second decade of syndication.
The artist’s work has been featured in LA Times, NY Daily News, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, Dallas Morning News, and many more newspapers. If you are intrigued, then make sure to scroll down below and see Scott’s work for yourself!

When talking about himself, the artist has quite a few things to say and one thing is clear—he doesn't lack imagination.
"Legend has it, I was born precisely at the age of 0 on top of an arctic glacier. Reportedly, at the exact moment of my birth, cataclysmic and miraculous events occurred all over the world:
Mount Vesuvius erupted, the poles shifted, rare comets appeared in the sky and I Dream of Jeannie was canceled. Living next door to a nuclear weapons testing facility as a child, I was exposed to high levels of intense radiation."
Every time they bow their heads, the tusks dig into their chests
Load More Replies...Lol I thought they were extra religious and that's why they had 2 crosses 🤣
"The prolonged exposure to this radiation resulted in the development of special powers such as extraordinary drawing and writing capabilities. After years of developing my artistic skill, it is now time for me to use my drawing powers and cartooning abilities to save the world. There is no need to thank me for my work. It is my gift to mankind."
Funny, but why do people think a vampires clothing would be invisible in a mirror?
(Thanks for giving me the clue I needed to get the joke)
Load More Replies...She's a vampire and vampires dont show up in mirrors but she had plastic surgery so you can see her implants
Load More Replies...Traditionally, Santa gives the good kids presents and the bad kids coal. However, since Spencer is a snowboy, he likes getting coal because his eyes and buttons are made of coal.
Load More Replies...On his website, Scott Hilburn also shared a few fun facts about himself too.
"Other interesting facts about me:
I live in the Dallas area;
I have all of my teeth;
I can stand on one leg and whistle at the same time;
I am a good spellar."
I found the actual thing when I was looking for my phone o.0
Scott's work definitely has a unique style therefore make sure to support the artist on his Instagram or Patreon. With all of that being said, tell us Pandas, which of the one-paneled comics was your favorite and why? We would love to know your answers in the comments below!
It's safe to say if that concoction of salt water hasn't killed him. He is definitely feeling a bit sluggish. Badda bing! =)
I like how the chicken and pig are both looking up, but the dog and man can't be bothered. No idea what it all means, just observing, lol.
..the giraffe is painting the object from his view point.. from above instead of normally painted from the side
Load More Replies...Yeah but aren’t all of the vintage consoles now considered collectibles and super valuable
True no memory was a Commodore 64, turn that thing off then there goes your data forever.
I was drinking when I got the joke. Almost needed to request a new keyboard and monitor.
My friend loves your profile picture. she's really into cute potatoes for some reason...
Load More Replies...this remind me of the robot movie scene where rodney parent order their baby and build him
What happens if they don't want a child? Do they just erase it? Do the pencil police have the technology to know this? I hate my thinking sometimes.
The big baby head correlates to the wide position Mom has to stand.
Load More Replies...now i wonder about how he pee because he a boy dog and he huge so it be big like a river
full-on defeated the magic there, my mom was speechless
Load More Replies...This guy’s art style is pretty much copied from the Far Side. :/ Inspiration is one thing, but it looks nearly identical.
Load More Replies...Indeed. I see them roosting in trees at my cabin all the time XD
Load More Replies...Alright, time to wrap it up. This has been going on for tomb long.
Load More Replies...It's a play on the word "resolution." It's a new year in the comic so the one computer is asking the other about it's New Year's resolution, meaning a goal or commitment, but the other computer answers literally. 1024 by 768 (pixels) is a really common display setting, referred to as a resolution, for computer monitors.
Load More Replies...Restless leg syndrome. Drivers me damn crazy!! Wishi could take them off 😆
Have you tried increasing your iron levels? My doctor told me they had to be over 100 of whatever the measurement is and mine were in the 20s. Since I’ve been taking supplements I think it has begun to help.
Load More Replies...Restless Leg Syndrome is when a person feels uncontrollable sensations in their legs (usually particularly bad at night, so it disrupts sleep). Usually it feels like tingling or “pins and needles” but it can be actually painful for some sufferers. It also usually causes the uncontrollable urge to move/twitch the legs, disturbing the sufferer’s sleep and that of anyone they share a bed with. My dad had RLS :( so, the joke in this comic is turning “Restless Leg Syndrome” into “Restless Lego Syndrome” ;)
Load More Replies...The punches things in the Lego. They will help like acupuncture if you lie on one to sleep.
Going for the full poem...beans, beans the magical fruit; the more you eat, the more you toot; the more you toot, the better you feel. Let's have beans for every meal. I''ll see myself out.
I’m so glad you felt the need to point out the unrealistic nature of some cartoonist’s one-panel comic. We all might have missed it otherwise. /s
Load More Replies...You can say there’s no such thing as Santa, But as for me and Grandpa we believe
Load More Replies...I feel like this one is ripped off from a Far Side comic I saw when I was a kid… now I’ll have to see if I can find the exact one XD
after being in hot water for a little while he already talked, guess he got soft
It’s OK for men to show their topographical details…
Load More Replies...Apparently this is what Mojang expects to happen if there was fireflies in Minecraft
