People Are Posting Hilarious Photos Of Their Irish Wolfhounds, And It’s Crazy How Large They Are (50 Pics)
The Irish Wolfhounds got their name not for their appearance. They got it for their purpose—wolf hunting with dogs. Some people think that all we have of the earliest times of this old breed are more myth and legend than fact. It is mentioned, as cú (variously translated as hound, Irish hound, war dog, wolf dog, etc.) in Irish laws, which predate Christianity, and in Irish literature going back as far as the 5th century or, in the case of the Sagas, from the old Irish period—AD600-900. Whatever the truth, it doesn't take away the fact that these creatures are incredibly delightful and beautiful. And big. According to the official the World Canine Federation standards, their desired height is 32 inches (81cm) to 34 inches (86cm). And although the Irish Wolfhound can be a frightening sight for those who aren't familiar with them, their all-around friendliness can't be any higher. To give these pups the attention they deserve, Bored Panda has compiled a list of their funniest photos, so scroll down to check them out and upvote your favorite entries.

I'm so sorry for your loss mate. Bless her. X This is such a beautiful photo and memory.
I feel bad for upvoting this but the love between them is so obvious. My condolences for both your losses. (My mom died several years ago and my beloved BestCatEver Gordi died 11 days later. Low blow, as you know, and I still cry from both losses, but there's joy in knowing that they're together, too. A billion hugs, hon, and I'm sorry for your losses.)
That is soooo sad, but i hope you feel better knowing that they will be together at rainbows bridge xxx
You really can die of a broken heart but I'm glad they are reunited ♥ Such a wonderful photo.
I believe so, my wife's dad died only 3 days after his wife, they were married for 60 something years, he was perfectly healthy until she passed then just sort of gave up, he definitely died of a broken heart.

These Two
One of these dogs has a clearly larger than life presence, whose mere physicality, elevated by an extreme amount of self confidence, intimidates any would be intruders and provides a sense of security for the entire household. The other one is an Irish Wolfhound.
And it's a safe bet the Chihuahua is the one in charge, and the Wolfhound does anything the little one says.

What a fun photo and neat dogs. Love Maik's "subwoofers." I have had dachshunds for YEARS and they would LOVE the ride those little wire haired dachs are having. Wish I could get a wolf hound for them to enjoy. Be fun to watch them running together.

My female Wolfie was 110 lbs at 9 months. Yes, that's probably a puppy. @layla.the.wolfie
Load More Replies...All I can think of is how big these dogs are. How big their poop is. How much money it costs to feed them. They could probably eat like 5 cheeseburgers at a time and then poo out a frisbee sized plop. They'd require an entire bottle of shampoo, PER bath. And a collar made out of a belt because collars don't come in their size, LOL. I bet they are great dogs though! I have a beagle-- he's more my size. At least I can carry him if I have to, hahah. And he MIGHT be louder than these big boys with his deep baying awrooooooo. I <3 dogs!
They are incredible sweeties. I knew one that was a lap dog. Her idea of bliss was her head and one foot in your lap; that's all that fit, but she was satisfied. Wonderful god.

Awwwww I was having such a tough day with PTSD and now I'm all calm and relaxed. Bless this post.
Do you have a pet? Some dogs (maybe not terriers judging by my nutters!) are meant to be calming - the stroking helps lower blood pressure I believe. All the best.

Oh, so adorable! Irish Wolfhounds have always been my favourite big breed dog and I have always loved donkeys. Having both is now my BIG dream!
That's a miniature donkey. Wolfhound would be about 6 inches lower than a full-sized one.
Looks like that Wolkhound just killed and ate something that bleeds!
We won't ask what that is around his mouth. I mean he is a wolf hound, eh? LOL
Honestly, it's probably just wet around his mouth, my dog has dark around his mouth when we are out in the rain, i think they are a bit stained from years of drinking water etc.

Load More Replies...Hate to see this sort of pic, kids are not meant to ride/ sit on dogs!
Nooo please don't get into the habit of putting babies or any other human beings ontop of dogs.. they grab at their fur, bite (The babies/children) and it's not fair on beautiful dogs like these, just for the record my ex's 8 y o broke my kittens tail in half, he also shoved a pencil inside another cats ear.. these things happen because children are curious
I'm sure they just sat the baby there just long enough to take the photo. And that doesn't sound like normal behavior for an 8 year old. Did you mean 8 months old? That kid should not be left alone with pets.

Here's My 6 Week Shiba Inu Puppy With My Mom's Irish Wolfhound
While Irish Wolfhounds are known for their majestic stature and historic heritage in hunting, one remarkable feature is their gentle nature despite their intimidating size.
For those interested in learning more about the fascinating blend of history and charm of these lovely giants, you can explore their story and see astonishing visuals that capture their delightful side.
We had a Wolfie stay at our house for 4 days while his owners couldn’t pick him up. Still a puppy but up to my stomach (I was 14) my friends called him “the weird monkey-spider-horse-dog thing” When the owners came to pick him uphe ran to them but as soon as they opened the door he wouldn’t hop into the truck, ran back to me and sat at my feet. They were calling him but he looked at me so I walked over to the truck and told him to jump in and he did but got right back out. They ended up picking him up and locking him in and left. I may or may not have cried when they left.
I waited for the perfect time, then at 60, realized it wasn't going to happen but I was going to be too old to handle her if I waited any longer. We're so overjoyed to have her now!

I only know the breed from pictures. Are they really as sweet as they look? Gentle giants?
Yes, they are. Hearth-rugs. Like all dogs they need to be socialised properly and then they make wonderful family pets. Warning though - they are fairly clumsy until about 3 years old. The biggest downside to this breed is the short life span. :-(
