A Joke Book From 1940
Internet memes have been a widely used visual form of online rhetoric since the early 2000s. Today they have become a prominent method of communication across the internet, but as a research subject, they're still not very well-examined.
With 20 years of communicating in memes, we still don’t know their exact implications, says Rebecca Ortiz, an assistant professor of advertising at the Newhouse School. “Research on internet meme effects is still in its infancy. But we can look to past media effects research to hypothesize how people may be influenced by them.”
But At Least They Have The Cool Building With All The Flags In It
Sadly, genocides are still happening and they still ain't doing crap.
Because a lot of people would call them warmongers and protest against such missions. Mostly leftist "#1world nobody needs armed forces pacifism activists" - we germans have such morons around in our government and oh boy is it a comedy show whenever the army is asked to do something (like helping to run vaccine centers)
Load More Replies...I realize that this is beside the point, but no, the T in tsunami is not silent. Tsunami is a Japanese word, and Japanese doesn't really have silent letters.
Load More Replies...'T' is tsunami isn't silent it's just soft, 'ueue' in 'queue' isn't silent (otherwise it'd just sound like 'kuh'), but yes on the rest
Queue is from the french word and we do pronounce it "kuh", we really like silent letters, like, a lot! this one is pronounced "uh": "œufs"(eggs) but if there is only one egg, we pronounce the F, this one is prononced "o": eaux (waters), yes, just "o".
Load More Replies...To be frank, its not like the UN can do anything. If they make a move, they'll piss some off or some other country who then might do another bad thing, or worse. While IT IS the RIGHT thing to do, the UN is just stuck in the middle. That's why politics sucks... Especially when it's on a global scale.
But they were created to basically go into the country and try and he the people. If that government refused they would be allowed to take action. That is what pisses me off more than anything.
Load More Replies...It's not just the U.N., the media has a part to play here. In the U.S., all we hear on the news is domestic politics. Very little mention of what is happening in the rest of the world, so, many people are totally unaware of what is going on. Keeping people pitted against each other in political corners is the media's racket. It makes money. These other more important stories, not so much.
“On a fateful day in Tiananmen Square, 1989, nothing happened” —Chinese Politburo
Argentinian cartoonist Quino once called the UN "those nice incompetents"...
Indonesia never genocide any tribe due our motto is Bhineka Tunggal Ika means unity in diversity
well all know at this point the u.n. is a complete joke
The U.N. is like the club that you and your friends make but then your mom comes and says you have to let anyone join and so you do and it's not fun anymore.
This is spot on. I'm glad that this is finally getting some attention, the fact that the word 'queue' has four unnecessary letters.
Why the downvote? OK, this is a dead serious subject, but c'mon. The twist of this comment is hilarious! (#howtogetyourfirstdownvote)
Load More Replies...I always wanted to work for the UN, even got an invite to sit one of their exams once but they always seem so powerless.
It's more like a band aid. I visited the UN in Palestine and had a lecture about what they do here. Basically a band aid work. I learned some interesting facts by the way. Like about Palestinian people who are stuck in camps, UN pay and run blood testing because of inbreeding, a lot of disabilities at birth or misformations and diseases because those people are stuck here for a long time and a lot are related. They do not fight colonization and imprisonment of Palestinians in camps but pay blood testing to avoid inbreeding and disabilities. Band aid. Still, their work is needed and important.
Load More Replies...Even when they're not silent, the UN have nothing to back them up, it's all empty words

We should never underestimate the power that social media and the content that’s surfing there has on our beliefs, identities, and culture. “The most shareable content on social media will reach the most people and potentially have the greatest effect,” she said.
Think of memes as bits of humor that capture shared cultural meanings and speak to some of the largest audience on our planet. “[They] are some of the most shareable pieces of content on social media and therefore they deserve scrutiny and better understanding as to how they may influence us,” Ortiz explained.
In that sense, understanding a meme is a way to bond with people and feel a strong sense of community. We as humans are wired to do so, so memes are the perfect gateway to that.

Well rape and incest are not really on "on brand" for Disney, though dead parents certainly are. Which makes one wonder why they chose Greek mythology as source material at all.

Very funny, but lots of them rely on inaccurate or very generalizing history "knowledge"
BP titled it "To Prove That The Best Way To Learn History Is Through Memes" --- hint: no, it's not.
Load More Replies...I can relate to the last one(Jewish so everyone looks at you). My friends ask me questions that I don’t know the answer to because my grandmother grew up Jewish.
Hint: people can up- and downvote, so the last place probably changes continuously.

I think they overplayed the whole imperialism/slavery/genocide trope. Yes, it happened, but it's not any of our faults (now in the 21st century) and there's a lot more to history then just that.
These are not funny but horrible. Actually made me sick reading them. So many inaccuracies, and misspellings. Please remove this feed.
but does it have any history memes on it? how am i supposed to learn when my shirt is only luxurious and colorful???
