There are two types of people: those who enjoy traveling and those who don’t. And there’s also the clash between them, with travelers obsessively trying to convert the non-travelers and non-travelers begging to be left alone on the issue.

Well, dear non-travelers, here’s yet another reason for you to get out of your comfort zone and to see the world more. Or should I say, to go see some hilarious city road signs because, believe you me, these are gems. Here’s a list of the most ridiculously hilarious city and town signs.

S**t first appeared in the written language in 1402, according to the Oxford English Dictionary , that great repository of language information. At that time, s**t meant roughly what one sense of slattern means today: a slovenly, untidy woman or girl. It also apparently meant “kitchen maid” (”She is a cheerful s**t who keeps the pots scrubbed and the fires hot.”). By the end of the 15th century, the sense “a woman given to immoral or improper conduct” had come into use, but this meaning is not current today. Interestingly, slattern also developed the meaning "prostitute, harlot." Some feminists have reclaimed the word s**t and use it to mean a sexually liberated woman.

Places like this were named because literally it's where the prostitutes of the time worked.

The place-name Penistone is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Pengestone and Pangeston. Penistone is situated on a high ridge, which is believed to be the source of its name.[3] Penistone derives from penn in Old Welsh, which means head, end, top, height or hill, and the Old English ing, a place-name forming suffix and tun, an enclosure, farmstead, village or estate. It most likely means a farm or village at or called Penning. (Wikipedia)

As this is in the UK, f***y is slang for a vagina rather than the surprisingly more tame American definition, which is simply a butt.
