American news makes headlines all over the world. But if we were to judge the US based entirely on what we read and hear on mass media, where the content is trying to manipulate us into clicking and scrolling, we could end up with a warped impression of the country. So let's see what average people have to say about it instead.
We at Bored Panda have searched the internet to compile a list of relevant memes about life in the United States, and are quite happy with what we found. These images made it to the forefront of social media platforms not because they were promoted by some publisher, but because they struck a chord with the users, and when put together, paint a pretty vivid picture of the place they come from.

My country: here is the bill: 0 euros, apart from this 20% of your salary. We hope you are ok now. So, my country didn't collapse after that, the workplace was still in great condition, and my family was financially stable for the whole of this time. Americans live in some kind of scam.

I'd definitely vote for someone who would address this situation, but we are so deep into healthcare for profit, there are NO candidates to vote for to change it. No one in government is even considering a national healthcare system.

I know they don't have universal health care - but what about insurance, do Americans not have Income Protection at all?
Massachusetts doesn't guarantee health insurance, but it will penalize you at tax time if you don't have any. So, you pretty much have to pay for private insurance through work. If you can't afford it, they take money at tax time. Still, don't give you insurance, so I'm not sure what that money goes to. The state does have free insurance, but it's not easy to get as an adult, and you can be cut off without notice. They will also sell it, yes the state will sell it to you, but again it's a lot of hoops to jump through.

I'm born and raised in Germany, with Chinese parents who speak mandarin and Cantonese. So that's trilingual. In school we had of course English, then French, Spanish and later on in my A-Levels Latin. So it's really funny to me when some Karen demands others to speak English. In the cases of german and English I might surpass their native tongue. Let alone knowing the difference of they, their, they're and there.
But there are also a lot of Germans who can't even use basic English thanks to decades of translating/dubbing movies. and even if you are learning languages in school or university, you'd still have to practice it - a lot. So it's really good that you are trilingual, but that's definitely not the European standard. (and btw I studied 6 languages over the years and only English feels like the one language besides German where I can communicate on a proper level)

In fact, health care cost is the only issue of the 15 asked on the survey seen as a very big problem by a majority of Americans, though about half say that the federal budget deficit (49%), violent crime (48%), illegal immigration (48%) and gun violence (48%) also qualify.

Actually, the American accent is much closer to what England spoke 200 years ago than the English one is. So no, they don't speak the way the language was intended (not that language is supposed to be static). As for spelling, Americans have dropped letters that have no purpose over that 200 years. In not saying one is better or worse, but again, language isn't supposed to be static. And I've never heard anyone in America complain that you can't spell it even complain about the l your accent, we're happy if you can speak any English at all.
It's probably worth reminding the redneck tendency that they tried a civil war and it went badly for them.
Please don't. You'll just get a "history lesson" and a lot of swear words in return and it won't really do a bit of good. Facts and truth hold little sway once emotions and zealousness are involved (no matter what the cause).

Half the people with that flag on their car are too stupid to know what it stands for. I feel even worse for the rest of them.
The symbol meaning has migrated over time as symbols tend to do. Whatever it was meant for then, now, it pretty much stands for "I like guns", "don't tell me what to do", "I'm entitled and more important than anyone else", and "I'm probably intentionally racist, but if I'm not, I simply dgaf if flying this flag is harmful to someone else". At least that's how I see it as a fellow southerner. For me there are a couple sure fire ways to know I need to avoid someone just by their vehicle. About a third of adults (34%) say the condition of infrastructure is a very big problem, four-in-ten say it is a moderately big problem, and a quarter say it is either a small problem (23%) or not a problem (2%).
Though neither domestic nor international terrorism ranks among the public’s top problems, roughly a third of Americans (35%) say domestic terrorism remains a very big problem in the country while a smaller share (26%) say the same about international terrorism.

In case any non-us residents are curious, since the US is so large, its divided into regions or time zones according to the sunrise/set known as pacific Time (California and west coast) mountain time (the southwest) central time (middle) and eastern time (east coast)... and so saying 8/7c means 8 eastern time, 7 central time (east coast takes priority because its latest over there)
That would be 8 eastern time, 7 central time. Time zones, huh who would have thunk it?
The data also illustrates the division between Americans. Republicans and Democrats are far apart on the biggest problems facing the country.
Gun violence, the affordability of health care, the coronavirus outbreak, and racism are each seen as very big problems by two-thirds or more Democrats and Democratic leaners.
But far fewer Republicans say these are major problems in the country. Four-in-ten think health care affordability is a very big problem, and only about two-in-ten rate the coronavirus and gun violence as very big problems.

it's still weird to me how we don't like... fall when the plane tilts to the side
OK I googled it. This is the answer "In aviation there's a concept called [coordinated flight] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coordinated_flight), and a coordinated turn is part of that. The pilot (or autopilot) controls the amounts of roll and yaw (side-to-side) motion through the turn so that you feel only a slight force downwards in to your seat. This is a deliberate choice: if you were in a passenger in a stunt plane, there would be no coordination and you'd be falling in every direction if it wasn't for your seatbelt. "

American here, and a history/government teacher as well. One point that is often overlooked by those who are pro-guns is that the "allowance" in our Constitution for civilians to own guns is actually addressing state run militias, not private gun ownership. This would mean that gun ownership was not meant to be a free for all for citizens and implies that citizens would only need them in a time of crisis/war deemed by the federal government. It should also be pointed out that many people in the U.S. who are pro-gun argue that the writers of the Constitution would not support how powerful the federal government is today over state power. Many of the writers and early members of the federal government were actually supportive of a more liberal interpretation of the Constitution that favored a powerful federal government.

Load More Replies...Gotta disarm the police before we even consider disarming regular people. Reason being is that legal ownership of guns is the ONLY way many black communities are able to protect themselves from white supremacists and the police. Funnily enough, gun control in the US (and California specifically) actually has its roots in a reactionary tendency to disarm black revolutionaries like the Black Panthers. Reagan famously advocated for gun control to disarm the panthers because they had actually been able to use legal gun ownership to pritect their communities from police abusing their position of power. So... until we solve the problem of police brutality in the US, I fon't think I can support laws that take away guns. It's not fair to black American communities who historically speaking... have no police system that will ACTUALLY protect them

Lol- I still struggle with this when I look at American date format- I mean I get it, but my knee jerk reaction is always "wait...........there aren't that many months in a year! Genuine question- why DOES America do this- it literally makes no logical sense to me- am I missing something?
A very long time ago, America revolted against Great Britain. We deliberately changed a lot of little silly things like this to further distance ourselves from the tyrannical British. Others include which side of the road you ride your horse, how to spell certain things, dinning table set up.

As a person you should have the right to do almost anything. Doesn't mean you should. I don't need laws or religion to tell me I shouldn't F the donkey I just shot. (Joking...I wouldn't shoot an animal)
See here's the thing. Yes you have the right to do as you please, except in polite company. Meaning, if you come across a community of fellow humans who have agreed to live together under a set of rules, whilst in their territory obey those rules. If you don't like the rules, go find an island somewhere and make your own bleeping rules.

Oh wow that's horrible... unfortunately, it's not uncommon. my sister got a terrible autoimmune disease 20 years ago and her bills were so bad (no health insurance, she was between jobs when she got sick)that she ended up having to declare bankruptcy. What cracks me up about the "Canadian accent" is that it is what most actors sound like on tv and in the movies (without the "eh") unless they are doing a specific regional accent (Eg New Yorker or Southern Drawl). Yes there are a few regional Canadian accents too but for the most part I would say 90% of Canadians sounds almost the same to the untrained ear.

Those from the US are called Americans. Canada, Mexico and the US are in the North American continent. I've never heard anyone call themselves North American
In Mexico, there are those who call the US people Americans, and those who call them “estadunidenses” (meaning “from the United States”), and also those who call them “norteamericanos” (“North Americans”). The latter is falling out of common usage cause it's actually a misnomer, as you point out. The first is also a misnomer, but duh, it's as the US people call themselves.

So, it is considered normal to have people struggling to pay their bills due to not being paid a fair living wage, needing multiple jobs just to be able to survive, pay for healthcare, and have more reported shootings daily than most other countries due to some of the laxest gun control laws in the world? They tried charging me 1,000$ for two x-rays. My insurance and the hospital tried saying they weren't covered because it wasn't life threatening. I laughed and told each side, the hospital found I had walking pnuemia and had mentioned how I could've died if I waited another few days (I had been bed ridden for a few days at this point so doing anything was hard on my body) and told them to figure out between each other because they ain't going to see money from my end. I have been on ACA since I started grad school (2017—graduated 2019), couple months after getting my first post-grad job COVID hit and that ended the job. Wasn’t there long enough to get their healthcare, so stayed on ACA. I pay a couple bucks a month for bronze level coverage. Gold coverage is still only about $20-$30/month. I start a new job end of this month, but it’s with a startup, so I’m keeping my coverage until the job takes off. Before ACA, I would’ve either been uninsured and paying full price if I needed medical treatment, or paying the bankrupting rates for COBRA (used to be the only way to extend your company health insurance after you left, and it was unaffordable for the majority of people).
I get the point but, some of us must use electric carts/scooters because of illness and/or injury. Many of us have also gained weight because we have been forced, by circumstances, to be sedentary. Just saying

The problem is that they don't start teaching a second language until middle school (6th grade, about 11-12yo) or high school (9th-12th grades, about 14-18yo). By then it's much harder to learn. Daughter's elementary school offered ASL, Spanish, Mandarin, and French lessons free before school. She started ASL in 2nd grade (6-7). At 21 she still knows all the basics
x2. Learning a 2nd language is like Jedi training. Either you start as a toddler, or you're gonna suck big time.
Load More Replies...I really do try to learn other languages. My grandparents on my dad's side speak Tamil, so I try to learn that. But I have ADHD and I forget English words a lot, so remembering words I'm not familiar with is hard.
What do you expect? Have you seen their education system?
Load More Replies...What bothers me most is Google. When I ask how tall I'm in feet, it says 5,5. But that's not how it works. Or I think it isn't. Inches in feet isn't decimal, right? How tall am I in the US??
We use both. It's the only form of bilingualism we will tolerate
Load More Replies...Yes actually! My younger brother is 6'2'' and I am proud to say that it is because of my success torturing him. If you would like to borrow my services to stretch another person, please pay in healthcare.

Load More Replies...Yes they do but, a rocket crashed because one subcontractor used the Metric System and another used Imperial Units. It's supposed to be rocket science.
Load More Replies...They got to the moon by using the metric system. It is what is used at nasa for all calculations.
That's how the USA thinks the aliens see our world. That's actually how many Muricans see the world
Judging by the BBC, Canadian, and Australian shows I’ve watched, always setting your shows in…the country you are producing them for…is hardly a bizarre thing.
Looks to be about two centibananas. It's metric.
Load More Replies...If both spellings are in the dictionary, then you're correct. And most spellings are
Only that american dictionaries differ from british ones there. But it is getting even more complicated. As English is widely used for communication between european countries whose first language is not English, some linguist even claim that a new kind of language is evolving, which is a kind of English that draws heavily on German grammatics and derives new words mostly from French. "Euro-English" is thought to be slightly simplified as it originated in exchange student and young traveler circles. It also got some new vocabulary from the administrative practice of the European Union (, which is also mostly English and French, sometimes German - yes, you won't get far there without at least being trilingual) (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_English for details).
Load More Replies...This song actually does reflect our history when you can understand what it actually means.
Yankee Doodle (Dödel- fool) went to town a riding on a pony, stuck a feather in his cap and called it macaroni (a type of fancy wig) ..
Load More Replies..."Yankee Doodle" hasn't been a "typical" song during my lifetime. It's mostly popular among first graders. Also, if the person who wrote this needed to gatekeep anything, it was their own grammar. "Who" isn't the correct relative pronoun in the first caption, because songs aren't alive. Standard grammar would be "having typical songs that," not "having as typical songs those who." Thank you for coming to my crabby North American TED Talk.
Someone definitely needs to look up the full verses and history behind Yankee Dooldle.
Katt Williams said it best. Say our name three times and see what happens.
Or wish to socialize resources or not trade with America
Load More Replies...We are taught diferent at school, in the USA and Canada they are taught that this huge chunk of land (from Canada to Argentina) is divided in 2 continents: North America and South America; and in the rest of the world we are taught that it is 1 single continent called America, and to add more confusion to the subject we split the continent in 3 sections North/Central/South America. So from the point of view of a not US-American this european guy answer is correct.
Australia - we were taught that geographically two continents Nth and Sth America but politically/culturally there's also Central America - and that Greenland geographically belongs to N America but politically/culturally it's European.
Load More Replies...Whenever I remember that Greenland is in America I get crazy flashbacks to that time Trump was scheduled to visit Denmark and then before visiting wanted to buy Greenland... we said NO FRIGGIN WAY, so cancelled the visit. Win-win for us!
This is where the technicalities come into it. While The "American" in this post is referring to Continental North America, the other is referring to Geographical North America. Greenland is geopolitically Europe, and all the others listed buy the "American" are geographically Central America. Neither are wrong, but the parameters were not defined.
yet still claim "developing country" status and suck up donations from US and Europe...
Load More Replies...lol USA forgets we in Europe joined you in the fight against terror after 9/11 , YOU asked US for help . not the other way around , now y'all are complaining ??
USA got a good deal on Greater Louisiana because Nappy was short on cash to wage Europe-wide wars. How did that really work out? To me, everything between the Rockies and Appalachians is only barely habitable.
Barely habitable? You mean the place where crops are grown, not generally overcrowded, and actually quite lovely. We have all four seasons, grass, forests, rivers, lakes and plenty of wildlife. Is that the barely habitable place you speak of?
Load More Replies...If they didn't have independence, the USA would have free healthcare and college.
Sorry, we're too busy fixing all the problems you caused
Load More Replies...Morons openly disrespecting the very flag that they so desperately enforce their children to worship every morning. People commonly violate the Flag Code when displaying the Stars and Stripes on apparel, athletic uniforms or bedding. The only exception is made for military personnel, firemen, policemen and members of patriotic organizations who are allowed to wear a flag patch that is customized for their uniform.
Can you clarify this question? Who invented which country?
Load More Replies...Yeah, but we invaded the whole of India and won. You invaded Viet Nam and lost.
Didn't even invade, just kind of "diplomatically" took control

There was a Jewish carpenter obsessed with equality and helping the poor. His name is Bernard Sanders.
Actually as an African I can say we DO like the USA. BUT we find your hypocrisy staggering. "democracy and freedom" but invade lots of other countries, ditch roe vs wade, george floyd, etc. Not to mention student debt, medical debt, flint michigan, the ORANGE ONE, drone strikes, etc. etc. You preach equality, freedom and fraternity but in practice behave much like fascists.
Load More Replies...Not American but seriously stop USA bashing. They are busy basing one another. You don't have to make it a global scene..😆
There's a lot to not like about the USA, but there's also a lot to love about it. Stereotyping a whole country does not bring the tolerance and reform that you would like to see. Making fun of other countries (or individual people) is both naïve and unhelpful. Lifting each other higher can only be accomplished by honest dialogue and by continuing to set a good example.
I do agree that there is a lot to love about America, but it is also worth noting that prior to the internet being used in the way it is today, I had no idea about some of the issues that plague America, that medical bankruptcy was possible, how many deaths are caused by guns, how the poorer sections of society are treated, water can be turned off if you don’t pay your bill etc etc. Surely it’s better that these issues are highlighted and those who are directly affected by them can learn more about other countries and how it doesn’t have to be like that.
Load More Replies...You need to grow up. This kind of thing is both infantile and stupid. The US does not have one homogenous culture any more than the EU does. Imagine if I judged your country based on the absolute worst examples.
It’s also really disheartening to see so many commenters basically calling all Americans complete idiots, acting as if all 330 million of us are a monolith. Like no, we don’t all believe Europe and Africa are one single country. Many of us regularly travel outside the country. We have taken world history and know geography. Some of us even do speak more than one language, shocking!
Load More Replies...we get it everyone hates the usa. cool!!!! now can we have posts that aren't about this for once?
Hey boys and girls, do you know what time it is? That’s right, it’s time for BoredPanda’s weekly American sucks post! Yeah! Honestly though, I’m not even from the United States and I’m starting to find these posts insufferable. BoredPanda, please don’t go the route of Buzzfeed. You have actual writers and photographers as your employees— please use them. Copying and pasting “Am I the Arshole articles”and posting listicles like this is getting really old.
Ugh. Enough with the USA bashing. It's not funny or good entertainment. Downvote.
