I’m Iza Łysoń - nineteen years old dog lover and neuroscience fanatic. Monday to Friday I study neurobiology on Jagiellonian University in Cracow. During weekends I rest in a little village located in southern Poland with my charming dog – Luna.

I have been dealing with photography for about 8 years. It is nearly half of my short life, that’s why it seems to me as if I have been doing it since I was born.

After my work was published by the National Geographic Poland Roxanne, the owner of Freya, the fox, contacted me and we were in contact since.

Freya is a pet fox born in April 2015. At first, she was really aggressive towards people but Roxanne was very patient with Freya and after some time and a lot of work, she became friendlier.

I loved photographing Freya, but it had its own challenges. I had to remember that Freya is a fox – a wild animal, which not necessarily would meet all my expectations about posing. So, I obviously had to be patient and accept the fact that the fox always knows better how to settle and which side-fice is better to expose. During the session, we were joking that fox behaves half like a dog and half like a cat. She walks her own paths and does not react to calling her name. Besides that, taking photos of a fox is quite similar to taking photos of a dog except that you need to be faster. Fox is not in the habit of staying motionless.

During our first session, I did not manage to catch Freya laying which was slightly disappointing from the perspective of frame variety. Nevertheless, before the next session, Roxanne had taught Freya to lie down on command.

To photograph Freya I had to drive through nearly half of my country but this kind of pictures was worth it without a doubt! Now we come up with more and more ideas for upcoming photo sessions, so I think me and Roxanne will keep meeting each other again and again in order to try to realize them all.

I have seen the drastic difference climate can make on an arctic fox's pelt, but never on a red fox! Very intriguing.
