30 People Shared Their First Coronavirus Tweets In This Thread And They Range From Hilarious To Cringe
It's hard to believe, but we've been in a pandemic for over a year already. No one really expected it to last that long, or at least most of us hoped that it would go away if we followed the restrictions for a little while. But alas, we're even starting to forget what life looked like before the global shutdown.
Now we can only laugh at ourselves and how naïve we were a year ago. Indeed, do you remember what your thoughts about the virus were last March? Twitter user @AliceAvizandum thought it would be fun to remember what the tweets were like when this whole deal was new to us and asked people "show me the first tweet you did containing the word 'covid' or 'coronavirus.'"

Let's go down the memory lane and take a look at what were people's first tweets about the coronavirus. Don't forget to upvote the ones you like the most and comment if you think that the tweets maybe didn't even changed that much from then till now.

On the last day of 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) took notice of report on the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission's website that there was a cluster of 'viral pneumonia' cases in the city. And on the first day of the new year, WHO started investigating how serious the matter was.
On January 9, 2020, WHO announced that the outbreak in Wuhan was caused by a novel coronavirus. The organization reiterated the measures that should be taken when controlling a new virus, but on January 13, the first case outside China was confirmed. Two months later, on March 11, 2020, COVID-19 was characterized as a pandemic.
My friend came from Wuhan. We had dinner with our families, I asked where is Wuhan since it is not a very known place in China. We talked about the coincidences of climate change. One of us mentioned when someone has a cold, he/she must stay away from other people, causing other people sick is a sin, we need to wear a mask on sick days etc.. Two days later we saw videos of people were falling on the streets in China on
you gonna get hit in the back (its just a joke) by covid just watch it gonna jump on you
I’m a New Zealand millennial so I question (1) other governments’ handling of corona and (2) our government’s handling of pretty much everything except corona.
Zoomers are just yet another passing fad so no one really counts them anyway
the term "zoomers" is a nickname for gen z, a whole mf generation and not a fad-
Load More Replies...It was a scary time, dealing with a new disease which spread around the world in such a short time. When countries started to announce lockdowns, at first it sounded kind of fun, staying home, having more time to fix our leaking sink or baking banana bread. We probably didn't let ourselves think that originally a two-week lockdown would be extended this much.
Be dealt his way right into the luxury suite at Walter Reed! Sweet wheeling and dealing, my dude!
Who would personally persecute any asian person for that ? Nobody is that stupid.
yeah, hate crimes towards asians has since increased due to covid. people are really dull brained
Load More Replies...We didn't know what was in the future, so some of the first tweets about it sound so out of touch in today's context. Nevertheless, some of them are actually funny and to be fair, we still joke about COVID-19, even when we have seen what a serious disease it is, because what else is left there to do?
Most of these tweets are more light-hearted than those we see now, but there were people who caught on from the very beginning that we should be careful and not think about this new virus as just another simple flu.
Is it weird that I haven't worked from home even one day yet? Our workplace is kinda isolated, so we were able to keep working as usual throughout the entire pandemic.
Yes it's weird. All but two of my office can WFH, so the two of us that can't, are perfectly isolated at work
Load More Replies...They were looking forward to working from home for what they thought would be only two weeks, but they are still doing it.
Load More Replies...Yeah, I think the only places that handled it well were places that were already mostly remote or had a remote option available... otherwise it was pretty much a global pilot for remote work
Load More Replies...I had watched that Netflix doc, Pandemic, sometime around November 2019 & the minute that first Rona case landed right here in my home state (WA) I stocked up on essentials and my BFF who laughed at me & made tinfoil hat jokes ended up being super grateful when I drove 3hrs to deliver her some much needed TP, paper towels, flour & rice because she only had a Walmart& a Safeway within 1 hr of her and they went weeks at a time without staple items on the shelf.
My guess: The media gets into a frenzy a lot when there's really nothing to worry about. There was a lot of information going around, and some of it really did sound like it wasn't a big deal - I was on the "I'll probably get it eventually, but there's nothing I can do to stop it" bandwagon for a good week or so, before I heard about how ERs were overflowing and actually, there is something we can do to stop it.
Load More Replies...We're already reminiscing about the time when the virus broke out, but we still have a way to go in stopping it and returning to normal life. Hopefully, after another year, we will be looking at the tweets people are posting at this moment and we will take a breath of relief that it is all over.
Well thanks for china to go and WARN us!!!! NOT. Stop eating every animal under the sun Asia.
Some called it a "hoax". Some called it "just a flu". Some said "mask doesn't do anything". The US president got it, then rip off the mask later. The people of United State had plenty of warnings and look how well we react those warning.
Load More Replies...The US and Europe didn't care much at the start because China was hiding the death rate and dismissing the severity of situation.
And some 6 months later, Trump urged people to not wear masks and inject clorox to cure covid. Funny huh.
Load More Replies...Uh covid didn’t hit America a couple months later, our first confirmed case was in January.
True, but the public wasn't really aware of it until a couple months later. I had been watching it beg of Feb and no one else seemed concerned in my area until beg of March. Ppl just thought it would be SARS or MERS all over again
Load More Replies...No, flus aren't getting stronger. 1) 1918 pandemic was way worse (700,000 deaths in the US alone) and 2) we are very familiar with the creation of flu vaccines so rolling one out isn't nearly as difficult as creating one from scratch. The issue with flus is that they are epizootic, meaning many variants affect many types of animals, and they can jump from animals to humans relatively easily. So different variations may be present in a domesticated animal population (like pigs or chickens) swap genes, become very virulent, then jump to humans, and spread rapidly because of how globally we're all connected. Writing this as a biochemist.
Load More Replies...I don't get the flu vaccine and I think I got the flu once. I was like 7 or something. (I'm taking the covid one tho)
Even if you rarely get it, it's a very good idea to get a vaccine appoinment, as the strain for the flu can change every year.
Load More Replies...her thing says glowypanda and now all i can think about is if shes on BP
And Desert Storm up until whatever they are calling the middle east crisis this week...
Load More Replies...It's not accurate. Cable TV is more than 40 years old.
Load More Replies...I have had a box full of cute & fun, as well as functional, masks in my closet for years now. 7 years ago, I developed a lung infection that left me with a yearly occurrence of pneumonia and chronic bronchial and sinus infections. I found that I breathed better wearing the masks (filtering the larger irritating particles as well as keeping the air next to my nose and mouth damp and warm) and they cut down on my coughing, mitigating the inevitable laryngitis after a bout. Honestly, in 2020, I wasn't sick once, which was a lovely change, and, as an essential worker, I didn't get to stay home, either. I've honestly pondered just wearing masks all the time now! Combined with being a shy introvert, I was as prepared for this as one can be!
I made comfortable and, dare I say, rather stylish masks in all my colour ways. I like them, and will surely be wearing them every winter now. Cos I don't want colds either.
i love this one haha. I'm too healthy and virus free on cocaine right now to read words
yes. The only down side to being virus free is that ya can't read words.
Load More Replies...Hmmmmm. All I saw was “rumors” and “cocaine” and now don’t stop is stuck in my head XD
these types of theories have been going around in certain circles for YEARS- still going strong today, I see!!
Load More Replies...Well, it is pretty cool to fess up to a situation, where you made a joke , ment harmless but looking .. unsavory. Some introspection and reassesment of ones actions is a really good skill. We need more of that in this world.
There is no tradition of Muslim men covering the face. Some Muslim women do.
Load More Replies...At the time the original tweet was sent, perhaps that was his first.
Load More Replies...us introverts are comfortable for once...oh wait...thats basically staying home...XD
Load More Replies...Hm, the pandemic has made alot of us really think deeply about relations, innovative ways to do work and studies, really highlight bad things in our societies, inequalities, etc. NOT saying , that is was worth all the sh*tload of massively bad stuff, but it is not as we had a choice in this catastrophy of a sh*tsandwich happening.
Lower incidents of flu and colds. Drop in fuels, time, and emissions from commuting.
I'm glad you survived- it's nothing to take lightly, for sure...
Serious question:when do we finally stop wearing masks because of the virus?
It’s good practice and socially considerate to wear masks during cold and flu season, even without COVID around. I’m not sure why people think that getting COVID under control means we can stop caring about whether we infect others with viruses.
Load More Replies...Yeah, but s/he did write it in June, so s/he should have known better...
Load More Replies...i gotten covid once but that was in November in 2019
Load More Replies...i sat and worried about December 2019 when it first hit China , no way where they steaming cleaning whole cities because it was "just like the flu"
Yep. That's when I started worrying too. By January, I was actively freaking out because A) I knew who was in the White House and B) I knew the kind of people who put him there. My immediate thought? 'No way in hell any of these idiots are going to take this seriously.' I really wish I had been wrong.
Load More Replies...It didn't save lives in numbers, of course. But the flu rates went way down. Masks and hand washing work. I swear, I may never go back!
And look what happened.. There was hardly ANY flu cases. Proving masks and washing hands works.
Unfortunately, what Coronavirus really sees is a cat arching her back and bushing her tail hoping she'll look bigger.
Bummer for your mom's BF. I know a couple people who got it and died.
What does living in the South have to do with it? Plenty of cases here, but we continue to beat it down with the iced tea and pecan pie treatment.
corona na na na, he took me back to east Havana nan na na, that's were I contracted corona na na na
Load More Replies...No offense but I don't agree with, "sounds so yummy" ... AT. ALL.
Load More Replies...Yes and if we don't want to EAT the maggots LET'S SLOWLY KILL THEM can't believe I feel bad for maggots now.
I was super irritated when that was going around. Yes, we are all aware of the flu, and you should be more concerned about the flu. However, this is it's worse cousin who eats all your food and clogs the toilet before hurling a molotov at your door on it's way out. Months later, after rebuilding and refurnishing, it keeps coming by in the middle of the night cutting wires, injecting termites, sabotaging your water heater, putting sugar in your car tank. You know, just f*** your s*** up for . . . .well, we don't know HOW long at this point.
I feel like this should be plastered on a billboard...or just a worldwide public service announcement. Might resonate with some of these knuckleheads.
Load More Replies...I wonder what percentage got the virus. I wonder what percentage died. Ooooh. Sick bern.
Protests and rallies ***where people stay masked*** have very low transmission rates
That’s kinda cool. Did anything special happen tell?
Load More Replies...I don't remember exactly what I said, but I remember that in mid March 2020 I said something about how my school was closing until about April. Yeah...
I don't have twitter but uh, this was from either January or February 2020: Corona-608...71-png.jpg
Didn`t tweet anything. But at early january when we were planning a business trip to China later that spring I quoted to slightly worried co worker that no panic. Either this is handled due April or otherwise no one is traveling to China at April.
