In Northern Ireland our police were reformed and it's a serious improvement so things can get better...although took at least 30 years of 'troubles' to make that happen. Good luck

No, I did not pay attention. I'm not from the USA and you need to understand that the world does not evolve round that sick country. I don't understand why you expect everyone to keep up with all news across the globe at all times, very much doubt you do because that's impossible. It's sick, just read a whole police riot force...or something...quit because two of their coworkers are being disciplined for injuring a 75 year old man. They seriously view injustice to be not being allowed to abuse people, how can that many people be such vile, unaware idiots?

No. Simply no. There's a very logical explanation for my 'no', which is that fear causes violence, and violence causes more violence. If police have to be afraid that anyone they meet could possibly shoot them because chances are high that he/she has a gun, it's logical that they react harsher and more forceful. It's even right, because I wouldn't want the police to be killed just for some speeding-ticket or some sh*t like that, so I understand that they're legitimately afraid. If you have low chances of a person carrying a gun, like for instance in Britain or Germany, they have more leniency to relax. Being hyper-vigilant is bad for the brain, so if an officer has to work while feeling threatened, a lot of things suddenly look really dangerous. So if you give the police the chance to be relaxed, they urge to react with overexcessive violence can be lowered. That's NOT saying that taking away the guns will end all the problems, or that police-brutality hangs only on that. 1/2

2/2 THere's more to it. One would be a long period of time with no to little accountability of the forces, another would be bad/little training for future officers. The first thing they need to learn is de-escalation, and that's HARD because if you're faced with a wall of protesters, no matter how peaceful they individually are, you get scared. But you cannot charge in there and fire granades and tear-gas at random just because you're scared! Venezuela has so many problems, it might in fact be that carrying guns in your case is actually protecting you from the police. For now. Because if the gouvernment decides that gun-carrying protests are too dangerous, the countermeasures will be immense. Violence causes Counter-Violence. Always. It takes guts and honour and courage to stop the circle, stand tall but peaceful, let insults drop from you like water and react... not.
