58-Year-Old Grandma Sews Costumes For Her Amazing Cosplays (30 Pics)
49Kviews
Retirement can become rather dull for many senior citizens: there's not a lot to do, and it tends to become repetitive and boring. But not to Marina Badianova, a 58-year-old from St. Petersburg, who's very active in creating her own cosplays with the help of a few talented photographers. By now, she has done dozens of cosplays in the themes of steampunk, history, folklore, and fairy tales, and she even revealed that some of her outfits haven't even been tested yet!
It all started when she had to pick out clothes for her daughter’s photo session. She really enjoyed the process, and she began to dress up for such occasions. The stylish lady once went home in her boho-style clothes, and a young photographer came up to her to ask for a photo of her. She was excited and also terrified, as she didn't know what she was doing. So she decided to get some experience. She went to one of the photo sessions, and enjoyed success. From that point onwards, she dove deep into the hobby.
It was back in 2015. Over the last six years, she has been a pirate, an empress, a duchess, an old hag, a witch, a villager, a badass steampunk lady, and many other roles. The former student of Yulia Sobolevskaya "International Center for Cinema Professions" film school shows quite a talent for it. Marina creates the props and costumes herself. Not only does she sew, she also teaches others free of charge. She sources her own materials from second-hand stores and flea markets. Her favorite market is on Udelnaya, where she avows that you can find treasures for a penny.

Marina has made quite a few friends in the cosplay community. She says that young cosplayers bring positive energy into her life and give her some tips about posing and other stuff. She's very happy that this hobby gives her a chance to socialize with people who appreciate what she's doing.
She's not McGonagall all of you young people! ;) She's a perfect Granny Weatherwax! :)
She even had a minor role in a historical drama thanks to her cosplays. She played a flower woman who had a flower basket by her. She enjoyed the experience immensely. All in all, it goes to show that life isn't over at retirement age, and Marina Badianova is a prime example of the joys one can have at that stage of life. Good for her!
Wow - I love seeing people take their efforts to a consistently high level! So interesting!

Beautiful pictures and costumes. But can we please stop saying "58 year old Grandma" like she's 95? People become grandparents at all different ages. And 58 is still not an age where you're about to drop dead the next day. Holy moly.
I agree. I became a grandmother at 41.
Totally, same as this "Mother this and that". Can we just acknowledge people for being themselves instead of the mother, fater or grandparent of someone? Very beautiful pictures and costumes indeed. Also the woman seems quite talented in acting and looks like a model. I bet she's signed to a few model agencies.
Thank you! I'm tired of seeing posts where any age is listed like it's a freaking miracle that someone can do this or be that at whatever age. Most of the time age is irrelevant to the story. This woman makes amazing costumes. The fact that she's 58 means nothing.
Yes, it's as if anyone that age is just too wizened, shakey, and cognitively defective to do anything but gum their watery porridge and get confused about technology invented after 1980. Next headline on BP: White-haired grandfather elected president. And it would talk about how he's retirement aged, but still cutely feisty (for a geezer) or some such crap.
May be they are pointing that Maria has 5 granddaughters, some of them are on pictures
Sorry Botox, I don't know why people always downvote someone asking a question or making a suggestion. Please take my upvote. But still there are sentences in the article like: "All in all, it goes to show that life isn't over at retirement age." which I think is just rude.
Ty, Janine! I learned from this discussion some language difference. There's no shame to call someone granny in Russia, even stranger on the street (with proper age gap). We don't have proper words for calling someone, really. So it's even can be polite. But obviously not in English 🙄 )) Ah, upd. And yes, it's a big problem here with "ending life at retirement age". So I guess autor translated title of some russian article (plus attracted some attention and aggravation))
Excuse ME?! People in their 50s are NOT senior citizens; we're middle aged. Sheesh. I mean, do I look like a senior citizen? I think not.
Haha... exactly, I saw the title and then realized she's a year younger than me. I was expecting a little old granny.
58? Retirement? In what country do you reside?
Russia. It's not for everyone, but before last reforms you could retire at 35 y.o. from ballet, for example. She was actress, so after 30 years of work she could retire at 55.
My dad retired at 37
people can retire earlier if they can afford to. Also some jobs retire earlier, like dancers or athlets.
