Obs alot of ppl care , 3 points: ( 1) more than 1k up votes. (2) Smacks of patriarchy or worse, misogyny, to use husband name to partially credit the spouse; and, (3) She LAUNCHED the effort. She's responsible for the effort and it's success, not him, so why does he get the lede?

"the little" they did is organising the steps of this decades long project and motivating and fundraising. Just because they maybe didn't spend each day on their knees digging in mud doesn't mean they lazed around with caipirinhas in their hands. This sounds like awfull invisible and therefore "unthanked" work (like your comment just demonstrated). There would be still a desert without those two, so I clap slowly and impressed *especially* for them (and , of course, for all on their knees actually digging in mud.)

If this is indeed the case thank you for the information, them and everyone else involved all get credit for what was accomplished.

I think you meant to say it wasn't just them. They didn't have to buy the land, they didn't have to have the idea and they sure as hell couldn't have done all this by themselves. I doubt they just sat on the front porch watching everybody plant. Be happy you're not looking at some horrendous building development.

Having the vision to believe it's possible, securing the land, turning away from easy commercial profit by using it as a ranch, securing funding and seeing the planting of 2 million trees through is a HUGE achievement. Who dug the holes is besides the point.

I disagree somewhat. That mom's actions are still heroic even if that is what is expected of her. She did not have to continue trying to rescue her children when she started getting burnt. She chose to fight on, to save all of her children.

I guarantee you running into a burning building to save your children is certainly NOT the norm. Most people couldn't do it no matter how harrowing the situation (heck many civilians couldn't in firefighting gear!) so she certainly is a hero.

Hell, I'd run into a burning house and endure third-degree burns over 90% of my body just to save my two cats and my dog. If xeno-transplants were possible, I'd also let doctors anesthetize me and take my vital organs for my pets if they needed them. I can only imagine that if I had human children, it would be the same, if not even more so! They are ABSOLUTELY our everything.

I'd probably run into a burning house to save my pup.
