Yup. I know someone who thinks science is a religion or a cult. Tried asking if they were thinking scientology, the cult organization. Nope, just science. They think science is all unproven theories and no scientific facts are evident, but believe everything in the bible is factual and written by god. I would rather wash dishes than get into that conversation again.

The validity of your beliefs is not proportional to how "intensely" you believe them.

Also, science is not a opinion, it's a collection of conclusions based on observations and measurements within a controlled system.

I'll keep saying it, facts are true regardless of how many people know or believe them. Opinions dissappear the moment no one has it anymore.

Let me quote you what a student said in my class last week while reviewing evolution. "I don't believe it, it's too hard to understand." Killing me. (Plus, I don't think evolution is really that hard to understand...may he never see quantum mechanics.)

Even if you are a sciencetist, there will be plenty of fields of science you don't understand. So everyone can say they don't understand some science.

Folks Online Are Losing Their Patience Explaining These 40 Things Over And Over Again That "freedom of speech" doesn't mean you get to say what you want, whenever you want, in whatever forum you want, without consequence.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. It is also not a blanket "everyone must allow you to say whatever you want": it's a restriction on the government from making gag laws

I noticed it most often gets misused by people who very clearly absolutely do not want YOU to have freedom of speech - just them. It's just another bullying tactic to try and shame you into shutting up and not arguing with them.

I am a gen x aged American man who served in the military and has a career in construction. Both very “masculine” with the attitude of “suck it up” I started to struggle with depression and rather than dealing with it I let it consume me because I was too proud and it ruined a lot of my relationships including my marriage. Now I talk openly about it at work on a jobsite and do not feel any shame and hope that I can help another person who is afraid to admit they are struggling.

When I suffered with depression the best way I could describe it was the absence of emotion. Nothing seemed to trigger any kind of emotion. Therapy & Mindfulness worked far better for me than antidepressants. For fellow suffers, I wish you well.

Me too. I understand what you mean. I try to explain to people that ask that when I was at my worst with depression sad or angry days were the better days. Because feeling something felt better than not being able to feel anything at all. Feeling nothing is isolating and as if your "self" has left along with the emotion. Sadness meant feeling and like a bit of yourself is there for you to grasp on to.

Interestingly enough it wasn't until after I had mostly recovered from a long bout of depression that I started experiencing periods of sadness. When I was depressed I felt either angry or nothing at all. Being sad every now and then is infinitely preferable because it means feeling something, which means I care enough about life to have feelings again.

My said I should go to this chicks Dr. That she added fish oil to her diet and is perfectly healthy now. No mom. I have chemical imbalances in my head. I'm 47 years old, I've tried adding it to my regime 3 times at the suggestion of my doctors over the years. It was for other reasons but it certainly didn't cure my mental illness or fibromyalgia. It didn't even lower my cholesterol.

Here at Bored Panda, we reached out to the poster of this story, fluffyanimecow, about how they came up with the question, but it turns out that it wasn’t anything specific, just something that popped into their head. They mention knowing that there are loads of things that people are tired of explaining, especially the popular fact that some people can’t accept - everyone is different (and you can’t really do anything about it).

Also, just because someone is poor doesn't mean they have to be given rotten, tainted food. People who say "beggers can't be choosers" are the same people who turn their noses up at the poor and throw them garbage then tell the poor person they're ungrateful. Poor people do have and deserve lots of choice and dignity.

There’s a huge difference between being lonely and being alone. Just as being introverted doesn’t mean that you can’t be social, being extroverted doesn’t dictate that you can’t be happy with your own company.

And being comfortable being alone has its perks - you can comfortably discover things about yourself, explore hobbies, and recharge your social battery.

I worked in quick serve and saw people working two jobs and still qualifying for government benefits. The worker isn't who we are subsidizing, it's the multi-million/billion dollar corporation we're subsidizing. They should be paying enough for the workers to have food, shelter, healthcare... if the company can't afford to pay its workers a living wage, they shouldn't exist.

Also, the overwhelming majority of women don't want a gigantic penis. The length of the vagina maxes out at 4-8" (10-20 cm) when women are aroused. Personally, I like my cervix where it is; I don't particularly want it shoved up into my throat.

Also women can't control when they get their periods or how heavy their 'flow' is, no matter how inconvenient it is. I once had an ex call me selfish and accuse me of deliberately trying to ruin our holiday because I woke up with my period on a day we had planned to go to a waterpark, he pouted all day and refused to listen to me until I had enough. I packed my suitcase and was trying to go home early before he finally let me explain, then still called me a liar and started yelling at me, so he got dumped then and there. Having your plans ruined by horrible cramps and PMS is bad enough without others being a**hole about it!

The worst thing about flat-earthers is that they believe that they are smarter than everyone else, and that people who don't believe that the Earth is flat are stupid and ignorant. But flat-earthers are suffering from psychoses, and most of them because they have been smoking cannabis daily since they were teenagers. They are literally incapable of seeing reality.

I just had an argument with my mother yesterday when she said that "all this woke stuff is getting out of hand" because the Cleveland Indians have been renamed/branded as the Cleveland Guardians. I tried to explain that they were #1 using a race/culture as a mascot, and #2 they were doing it incorrectly because the symbol was a caricature of an Indigenous Person, not an Indian. She argued "it's not a Hindu Indian!" like somehow, using an Indian from India would somehow be wrong, but using an indigenous person is not. She argued, "it's a baseball team, for goodness sake!" If it's a baseball team, then WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT THE NAME CHANGE?! It's not even a team she follows!!!!! She has fallen victim to being angry and upset about PCness, even when it doesn't affect her in any way. It's quite sad. The people screaming "you need to stop being so offended by everything!" are most often offended by the changes made. It's just a ridiculous cycle.

And I knew I didn't want kids. When I was younger (late teens and twenties even early thirties), people (especially men) would tell me I had to want kids! It was ridiculous! I wrote up a (very long) list of all the reasons I didn't. I kept it in my purse, so anytime someone started giving me bs about it, I would wip that list out. I'm now 51(married 28 years). And I am still very glad I never had kids!

The Texas legislature just proposed a bill that would give homeowners property-tax deductions for having children. If you pop out 10, you get 100% off. Because, due to generational wealth and the post WWII New Deal federal housing loans that were only offered to white veterans, homeowners in the US are predominantly white to the tune of 88%. It's to combat that stupid "replacement theory" c**p that the conservatives are so worked up about.

This is a major problem with social media. People say all sorts of hideous things to and about individuals or communities that they wouldn't say in a face to face encounter. Partly because they don't have the courage to say it in a live situation, but I think it's also partly because cyber bullying somehow doesn't feel "real" to them ("It's only words", "It's just my opinion") and they are distanced from the consequences.

This is also a psychological phenomenon, when you can’t see the human face, your emphatic responses don’t activate when you act like an idiot. You also don’t get any emotional feedback, like if you upset somebody in real life. The same applies to road rage, to your mind they are just cars, not other people.

Totally agree. When I was fighting my cancer, I got SO much advice. I learned variations of "thanks for your concern, I have faith in my doctors and the plan we've worked out". I REALLY hated the "You know there is a tea/pill/food that will cure cancer, but they are holding it back to make money".

The DSM-5 criteria for a bipolar diagnosis are very, very specific. Referring to someone as a "little bit bipolar" not only demonstrates complete ignorance of what the disorder entails, but is as ridiculous as saying that someone has a "little bit" of cancer. You either have it or you don't.

I think there is a general lack of education. I for one didn't really know what bipolar meant until I just looked it up. The same it true of many conditions I hear about but don't necessarily fully understand. However my lack of knowledge wouldn't lead me to say something like that.

One of the most turbocharged issues in today's society is based on correlation implying causation...wrongly. A significant percentage of mass shootings involve the use of so-called 'assault rifles'. The resultant narrative, driven largely by politicians, suggests (or even insists) that banning those types of weapons would reduce the number of mass shootings. There's certainly a correlation between assault rifles and mass shootings but considering mass shootings can be (and have been) committed with other types of firearms, the 'causation' part of the equation isn't there. Correlation v. causation - understanding the difference - is a critically important part of any scientific or statistical analysis but politicians, activists and media tend to just ignore it as a matter of convenience/expediency.

Folks Online Are Losing Their Patience Explaining These 40 Things Over And Over Again That being deaf really means, I can't hear you at all. All the shouting doesn't help me to hear you.

I’ve worked in a lot of jobs that entail dealing with people. When someone indicates they’re deaf, or I’ve met them before and know they’re deaf, I have always made sure to lightly touch their arm to get their attention, and to directly face them, not to rush my words, but speak clearly—-not loudly, but clearly so my lips form readable words for them. It’s really not difficult to adjust to someone else’s needs for the few minutes you’re interacting with them, ffs.

Apparently, very big, exaggerated signs are SL's version of shouting. While funny, being that close wouldn't help at all because SL needs the whole upper body - not just hands. (Though an argument could be made for fingerspelling)

Actually, being deaf does not mean "I can't hear you at all." It means "I can't hear you well enough to make out the words you are saying." Most people considered deaf have some ability to hear, the same with most people considered blind.

And that if deaf people get the opportunity to have an implant, they often don't WANT the implant, because they feel good about themselves the way they are (and why shouldn't they?) and don't see being deaf as a handicap. A lot of them feel full, and they are. Also, a lot of them want to continue to belong to the deaf community they have always known.

Or someone being blind meaning that they're also deaf. I have a friend who became blind a few years ago and she told me that people yell at her all the time, or talk slowly to her as if she's mentally challenged. Her hearing is of course better now, so I can't imagine how terrible that must be.

    Alex Bailey

It is a myth that your hearing magically improves when you go blind. You just rely on it more and get used to using it more effectively. Just as deaf people don't magically see better. They are both just as prone to needing hearing aids (blind people) and glasses (deaf people) as the rest of us.

Gaslighting is that term/jackhole behaviour ... that is being used completely incorrectly due to 'trendiness'. Seriously - come on. "I think that teacher you like is a jerk" - NOT gaslighting.. it's called difference of opinion. "That teacher who assaulted you did not assault you, you are making things up and you are crazy" (and the assault actually, in reality did happen) - THAT is gaslighting.

Just yesterday I watched a semi trailer narrowly miss a guy who rode his pushbike across a pedestrian crossing. Ironically they were both in the wrong. I think the semi driver was *more* wrong because the speed he was going there was no way to stop. And just after the pedestrian crossing there was an intersection where he had a giveway sign and he just blew through that too. If the cyclist had been two seconds slower he'd have been dead, and if a car had turned out with full right of way it'd have been t-boned.

I had a friend in grad school who would hit the crosswalk as soon as the light changed, because he "had the right of way." That may work in some places, but not L.A., where three cars at least will run through each red light.

Was driving around the middle of Philly last night, and nearly killed 5 different pedestrians because none of them looked at the light before they tried to walk across the path of my vehicle. I'm glad I keep alert, and keep my head on a swivel, when driving.

You mean they are making hard sacrifices and pinching every penny they can?? Begging for adequate child care from loved ones so they can work and scraping together meals each night? As someone who has been poor and briefly homeless, it's a hard climb to get up. When you're poor, you tend to look poor. No one takes you seriously. People think you're not educated and unwilling to learn. People stand there thinking about all their assumptions about what sort of bad decisions you made. Doors start closing based on those assumptions. Your self-esteem and dignity starts dipping, and you end up getting moments of feeling despair. If you're trying to be optimistic and happy in your circumstance then people think you're on drugs and/or not taking your situation seriously at all.

Capitalism and individualism, and the doctrine of free-will, are to blame for your situation. Most people who are poor have had something happen to them that knocked them down, and it was most likely systemic (eg no free medical care).

AND you can’t choose who you fall in love with. You can’t pre-order a specific “type”. You’ll find that the “type” you truly fall in love with may not be anything like your “type”, but suddenly whatever “type” they are will become your “type”. I thought I’d fall in love with a white collar guy who wears a suit to work. The man I fell in love with and married is blue collar, and wears work clothes to work BUT he also owns his own company, which provides a necessary service, so he will never be lacking for work. Or money. We have a much better and more secure life than we would if he wore a suit to work at someone else’s company, with the possibility of being laid off or fired on some a*****e executive’s whim.

This is called "green-washing." It shifts the onus of combating waste and climate change onto you, the individual, rather than the handful of corporations who are actually responsible. However, there are things you can do. The first is to look at your trash and find ways to limit your use of single-use plastics. That means no more sodas or plastic water bottles. I can't believe I have to say this, but I work at a dollar store and see it all the time: no more Styrofoam plates and cups or plastic picnic-wear! What do you think is easier? Mining oil from the ground, shipping it to a refinery, shipping that to another facility to turn it into plastic, molding it into the shape of a fork, shipping those around the world to a store near you, driving there, spending your hard-earned money on it, bringing it home, using it once, throwing it in the trash, and then paying a guy to come collect it and throw it into the ocean or... alternatively, you could spend 5 seconds to wash a d*mn fork.

I can't control what they do, I can only control what I do. I'm tired of a-holes NOT recycling because "it doesn't matter". Grow up, it's not that hard to separate your garbage.

And I am tired explaining that IT'S NOT TRUE THAT MOST RECYCLING ENDS UP IN A LANDFILL. Maybe it's true for the USA, not for the rest of the world. Most EU countries recycle more than 50% of the overall waste production and use a large share of the rest for energy recovery. In 2018 the EU-wide landfilling rate for waste was 23%, with a steady downward trend. In countries such as Germany, Belgium, Austria, Sweden the landfill rate spans from 0,3 to 5% of the overall waste production, and recycling is consistently above 60%

Cardboard, paper, and metal get recycled. Plastic is hard to recycle. In my town, plastic that isn't recycled goes to an incinerator that produces electricity; not really efficient, but it doesn't go to landfill.

Folks Online Are Losing Their Patience Explaining These 40 Things Over And Over Again The fact that medical facts will always change over time. Specifically with pregnancy. I’m tired of explaining to friends and family members that me drinking coffee or having caffeine won’t [end] my baby, or me lifting something heavier than 25pounds won’t kill me or my child. It’s simply annoying to literally be pregnant, be actively going through an experience with new medication and be getting updated facts, and have people who gave birth for the last time 15+ years ago tell me I’m a bad mother for doing things my doctor has said is perfectly fine.

Once you're pregnant your family starts treating your body as their property, and that your unborn child is theirs and you can't be trusted to make good decisions. They aren't even concerned about you for you. Any concern they have is about the baby inside you. You'll realize this after the baby is out and any care your family once seemingly had of you is gone. They will not ask how you're doing. They will not help you with your recovery needs. They will not speak to you like a grown woman who has a brain. They will not trust your maternal instincts and updated knowledge on parenting. They will not even take into consideration your sleep deprivation and hormones. Won't come around much, won't check in, won't talk to you about other things going on in the world. I had more lectures and being yelled at than anything. Really didn't help PPD. In fact no one gave Postpartum depression a thought at all.

Exactly. When my parents were expecting, doctors regularly prescribed pregnant women amphetamines so they wouldn't gain too much weight. When I had my first, I was told to put him to sleep on his stomach so he wouldn't choke if he spit up. We just do the best we can with what we have, and accept that things change. Remote support is the worst. I hate getting the "I had a problem with..." phone calls. For years now I've been hammering home "did you take a screenshot or a photo of the error message? If not I can't help you." Mostly because I got tired of getting half-remembered "I think it said something about a device being faulty, maybe the video card?" type comments and then going down the wrong rabbit hole because that wasn't actually what the error said in the first place. *sigh*

Oh yeah, and I hate it when people tell you they tried googling it (usually with an exasperated sigh and eyeroll). Then you either google it and the solution is literally the first hit. Or you discover that the *exact* wording they used in google was "printer problem" and they wonder why they couldn't find an answer.

On that topic, did you know that there are a couple unwinnable hands in Microsoft Solitaire? I was playing through in "game number order" and hit one where I couldn't find a solution. Frustrated I googled it and discovered that particular one is considered unsolvable.

People don't seem to understand that IT covers a huge range of areas of expertise and being familiar with or employed in one doesn't automatically make you understand the others. I worked with a lot of software engineers who were terrible at customer-facing IT support because their area of expertise was in building new software components, not digging through the fossils that make up many computing systems. I worked in both tech support and development, but mostly as a web and Java developer - I have no idea how your computer is put together physically or how the OS works, but I will find the strange deeply buried bug from a little used cross linked database table.

YES to tall of that. I once had a customer try to blame me for a printer problem that was completely unrelated to the minor maintenance I did on one of their PCs. It's like getting new tires and then telling the tire mechanic it's their fault your engine is running rough and your AC doesn't work.

Folks Online Are Losing Their Patience Explaining These 40 Things Over And Over Again The vast majority of religious believers cringe just has hard as you do and wish the loud extremist minority would go away and shut up just like you. Edit Ads: It's a shame that so many people assume first which religion and second that these discussions don't already take place within the communities of these religions. They do. The difference is, neither side is smart enough to realize that screaming your belief into the others face will never actually work - it only makes you the savage you think you are disagreeing with. And this all sucks that I have to edit a larger piece into this because people still want to assume the worst and shout their beliefs into another's face.

Just because I believe God exists does not mean I will automatically hate you for being lgbtq or force abortion on you or come to your door and scream Bible verses at you. If you have a problem with your religions fundamentalists, then I would say there is a problem with that religion's fundamentals. The belief in gods is problematic because of the unshakable certainty of cause. You can't even imagine a world in which gods do not exist, the problem being that here you are, in the real world with the rest of us. When real world events need attention, appealing to some god is completely ineffective and increasingly infuriating. Thoughts and prayers are so much b******t when people could do things to stop tragedies. Religion is the excuse for complete and utter laziness. Don't want to have to think, it's god. Don't want to like a particular group, no problem, god takes care of it. Want to be completely cruel to others, not an issue, god says its perfectly fine. Religion is the curse we've inherited from our uneducated ancestors. Those who hold tight to these beliefs are quite literally holding humanity hostage. I think that we can do much better.

My wife has different interests from me, so it often happens that she wants to see a particular movie with her friends. I don't generally have the same taste in films, so my options are, go to the same theatre and watch the same movie (almost never), go to the same theatre and watch a different movie on my own (quite often), they drop me at a nearby theatre because it's actually showing something I want to see; their movie is at a different theatre, drop me at the mall while they watch their movie, or I just stay home while they go out. At no point do I ever feel "less than," or "like she doesn't love me," just because we're not surgically joined at the hip. We're both allowed to have different hobbies.

The difference between race, ethnicity, & Nationality

    azul55 Report

Frequently confused by people (especially ones making negative comments about minority groups...). Race = physical characteristics such as skin, hair, and eye colour. Ethnicity = cultural characteristics such as language, religion, food and clothing, social customs. Nationality = legal sense of belonging to a specific nation state (citizenship by birth OR naturalisation). However, “race” is a social construct based on physical appearance as there is no significant biological difference between different human races.

UK supreme court has ruled that prejudice against the Irish is legally "Racism". Those words have many nuances and meanings. If you are against someone because of their birthplace or ethnicity, arguing "it's not racism" is completely missing the point.

    Michael Largey

There are all sorts of bigotry. Ethnic bigotry these days is carelessly being referred to as racial bigotry. Both of course, are equally bad. Prejudice by, say, the Welsh against my cousins in Belfast might be ethnic bigotry or even religious bigotry. It's probably not racial bigotry because they mostly belong to the same race. That is a valid linguistic quibble, but only that. As you say, spouting "It's not racism" misses the point - or worse, avoids it.

It's a protein called myoglobin, distantly related to hemoglobin. It's present in all mammals. It's susceptible to oxidation and it's the cause of the color red in the red meat. The more you cook the meat, the more the myoglobin gets oxidated, so it looses its red color, turning to various degree of brown.

friend of mine put $3000 into crypto in 2017 and now has $27000. Not "rich" but definitely was not a mistake. That is 900 percent in 6 years, or 150 percent per annum. The BEST stocks and shares return 10-15% per annum. That's 10x better. So yeah, it depends on WHAT you do with the crypto. The same can be said for stocks. I know people who went bankrupt playing stocks and people who made millions. It's up to you.

A typical crypto day, "I'm rich! I've lost a million! I'm up again! Annnnd, I'm broke!" Bit exaggerated for humorous intent, but it's not far from the truth. It's volatile and based on factors that most people won't understand. So it's a risky thing to invest in. And that's even without the scams and bad actors taking advantage of gullible people.

I helped my brother lose over 100lbs (45kgs) in about 2 years with diet change. I cut out all the junk food, soda and garbage food my mother gave him, reduced the quantity he ate and he lost all that weight. He's special needs and dependent on someone providing food so i started preparing all his meals and severely limit junkfood availableat home. He has 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day, and drinks water and low sugar/sugar free beverages. It's not even a real diet but just healthy eating and moderation; I used some diet principles just for balance and nutrition and took some of their recipes to have alot of variety. He has never been to a gym and really just walks a little more so basically it was just the food changes.

Hmmmm.... Not quite. You need to work out if you are looking to 'loose weight' or 'loose inches'. Exercise and a balanced diet are the best things when used combined. They are the basis for any figure change. Want to bulk up? Balance carbs & protein with muscle and weight based exercise. Want to loose bodyfat? A balanced nutritional diet with cardio style exercise.

I listened with incredulity and fury when certain people in Congress (guess which party) argued that there shouldn't be a cap on the price of insulin because people with diabetes just have bad eating habits and/or are obese. Although I don't think that any of these idiots actually came out and said, "having diabetes is your own fault," that was definitely the message.

I have Type 1 LADA, or Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adulthood. Unfortunately, LADA means I produce little to no insulin AND I am insulin resistant, so I can't use natural or artificial insulin effectively. Unused insulin causes my body to create fat (I don't really know why, I just know it does) so I gain weight regardless of diet and exercise, which increases the insulin resistance, making it worse! Most GPs and even some endocrinologists don't know about or understand LADA so I constantly have to explain to everyone how I'm NOT non-compliant with treatment and that this is just how it works. I didn't cause this; it's inherited and autoimmune. My body is allergic to my pancreas and all the treadmills and watermelon diets and gimmicks won't change it. And it's nearly always misdiagnosed as Type 2. I once reached my goal weight and I still needed 100 units of insulin per day. Misdiagnosed at age 26. Properly diagnosed at 45.

This is actually quite sad. When I was around 6, I was very, very insecure about having arm hair. I asked to shave it, and my mom said no because it would grow black thick and dark. It would've saved younger me a lot of insecurity if this misinformation stopped being spread.

Well I didnt ask and I just started shaving my arms at 9yrs old as someone told me I had monkey arms. Well at 36yrs old now I wish I had never started. I have to shave every other day for it to be smooth or it is uncomfortably prickly and I am paranoid about accidentally brushing up against anyone or them touching my arm. Alcohol gel is painful on the first day after shaving too, which is a pain as I work in a hospital. Also took YEARS to be able to shave without catching my elbow or the sticky out bit on my wrist and having it bleed

If hair hasn't been cut, it tapers to a point and looks thinner. When you cut it, it gives the impression of being thicker. I had this happen when my hair grew back after chemo. I initially had blonde baby hair, that gradually darkened and thickened after it had been cut a few times. Thereafter it remained the same, at least until it started falling out due to old age!

A hair is conical, so when shaved the remainder is the thickest part, hence it appears to grow back thicker. If you want to get rid of it, best wax, remove the whole hair. And remember kids, hair removal is a choice, do what you feel fits best for you.

No, but the end is blunt so it might feel thicker. Versus plucking where it’s pulled from the root, so doesn’t grow back with a blunt end.

I used to be a security guard, and the amount of people who think this is astonishing. No, you don't need a release form for that, you can't sue them if they "put you on YouTube," etc. You have no expectation of privacy in public spaces. ****Edit to clarify. I'm talking about the USA. This is a question I have had many arguments with others, including photographers. If you are in a public space or visible from a public space you have no expectation of privacy since anyone walking by can see you. Anyone can take your photo. Photography in public areas is only restricted in a few government locations such as military bases. Age is not a consideration. Of course this does not mean one might be confronted when taking photos. I have been. Releases might be required by a magazine or other outlet but that is not a legal requirement, just a business decision made by the outlet. Just think about all those celebrity phots published without consent.

Not all places used by the public are public. Places where people are in vulnerable states do have a right to not be filmed. For example, a gym locker room, a mall washroom, a medical waiting room, hospital. Private facilities that allow the public to use are actually not public spaces, and some places do have policies against filming strangers. Commonly these are gyms and public pools.

Telling it as a worldwide, universal thing is very, very wrong and can land people in bad situations. Just as an example, in my country you can film and take photos of people in public for personal use, but the moment you publish them -outside of a very specific set of circumstances- you are supposed to either have their authorization or to make them unrecognizable . If you have a security camera filming a public space, you have to ask for a permission by local police and have a sign stating the use, the person responsible and the contact information in case authorities want to audit the fair use of the recording. It's straight up a felony to film without permission in some places where confidential data are handled (think a military installation, or a clinic, or even schools). Publishing images or videos or people in public in a condition that degrades their public image is definitely prosecutable: youtube pranks to unwilling homeless people have already landed people in jail.

This is another case where, just because it's not illegal doesn't mean you should always do it. Just cause you can legally take my picture doesn't mean that I want you to, or that I am not allowed to tell you off for it. It's rude, and creepy and can be dangerous. If you go around taking pictures of random people without asking, eventually someone is going to get mad, and that someone may not be a particularly reasonable person afraid of going to jail for assault.

Get an accountant, they're way better than the seasonal pop ups and not much more in cost. Conditionally they can be cheaper. I pay a flat rate for my federal and state taxes ($165), sometimes I work in 5 or 6 states a year, still the same price. The seasonal groups want around $100 to prepare each state. An accountant will also get you the best return

No really. You have 1000 dollars, taxed at 20%. Equals $200 tax, net pay $800. You have a rubbish 2% pay rise, meaning you now earn 1020 dollars. The next tax bracket is 50%. You now pay 210 tax (1000 at 20%, 20 at 50%), net pay 810. Ooh look, a pay rise

this is actually wrong, in some cases it actually can end up lowering your take home pay at the end of the month. And that's the problem. doesn't matter if you get that money back at the end of the year your monthly take home Can and sometimes does go down, which can prevent you from paying bills. Do all your research folks before just saying some s**t that only applies to you.

Only the extra pay that's in the higher bracket is taxed at the higher rate. If you get a raise, you will still received the same take home pay PLUS the raise taxed at the higher rate. The only way your take home pay would go down is if the raise was taxed at more than 100%

A half block from my teens school, I saw a man carrying a crossbow, walking against the heavy foot traffic of our high school's student dismissal. No one even looked twice we're just a yeeyee town

Not sure about the axe, but I've never had any problems carrying around a shovel at night

I'm curious to know who is repeatedly asking this question, for my own safety.

Because you never know when a rogue tree might be lurking around the corner.

18 years of reinforced "go to college and you'll get a good job" growing up has led to an entire generation of adults who are on average more educated than prior generations when the number of jobs that would actually require those educations have not really increased in any significant numbers. So now more roles that don't actually need the education can still ask for it and get candidates with that education requirement applying because they can't get anything else. Add on the fact that tuition rates have been increasing at a much higher rate than inflation since at least the 80's while Uncle Sam happily foots the up-front costs and you wind up with a generation of people with significant debt making less than their expected income that can't afford to pay it off. Don't forget to add in that public schools don't (or at least didn't about 15 years ago when I graduated) have any mandatory classes to teach about loans in general, student loans, interest, etc so kids signed up for these loans with only a very vague idea of what they were signing up for. And finally, even if Biden's debt forgiveness passes (which I hope it does, as it will definitely help people), it will still do nothing to address the underlying issues and actually solve any problem. It will just put a bandaid over the issue for another year.

My school has a math class that you can take that teaches about budgeting, taxes, loans, etc. Unfortunately, it’s an AP class, and you can only take it senior year IF you’ve already taken four other math classes, which means one year you have to take two instead of one. Edit: Should’ve specified. American public high school

I was hoping this page would have an entry on debt ceiling, since 90% of people who complain about it have no idea what they are talking about. The simplest way to speak about it is a credit card bill, you've already spent the money, you just have to pay the one who covered the loan. The budget is what they pass to say what they can spend money on, the debt ceiling is an artificial encumbrance that stops us from paying the bills, that gets used as political leverage.

Meanwhile it can take weeks to get a handyman or appliance repairman. Trade schools should always be an option just like community colleges. Same type of fee structure.

Digital Art does not mean the computer draws for you. Whenever I show someone a portrait I did and say I did it in photoshop, they practically roll their eyes and it makes me want death

I get that a lot. My daughter is an art student and works with both digital and physical media. If people comment on one of her pieces and I say it was digital art, I can tell some people thinks she "cheated" and it didn't require the same skill as drawing by hand. Newsflash: she IS drawing by hand, just using digital tools.

It's like, a novel's easier to write when you're using a word processor instead of a quill and ink. But nobody complains that writers have it too easy now.

Yeah I do digital art and I’m always worried Bc it’s not the same as using a real pen and paper I’m really bad at actually drawing so I’m scared people will say I didn’t use as much effort because my app can make my lines into smoother lines and that stuff

I saw somewhere that you need to be less worried about the feedback you get from others anonymously because you don't know who they are. This one girl was upset someone was rude about her playlist (I think) and she looked them up later and they had just been arrested for homicide. Imagine being sad because a literal murderer didn't like something you did. Your art takes skill and unless your app is google images, you're the one putting in all the work. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise (of course though you have no way to know I'm not a serial killer giving you bad advice so be cautious)

Whenever I use photoshop my family thinks I'm altering people because I think they're not beautiful enough. But that's not true. I love transformations and creating characters. It's nothing to do with trying to make insta-models out of people.

Unless you did it in DALL-E or Midjourney or Stable Diffusion, in which case yes. It DID draw it for you.
