Some people are allergic to fools. When they see others being treated poorly, or ridiculous statements being thrown around, or insults served without shame, they feel an urge to stand up and remind everyone that this world is a place for justice.
And if you've been an avid user on social media like most of us, you know how much nonsense is spilled there every day. Luckily, a fair share of people don’t miss their chance to share a social justice take publicly, because every illuminating, educating, and clarifying post helps.
And this Facebook page known as “Feminist Info” is a great place for putting a spotlight on the issues that matter but don't get talked about enough. This also means that the page has a wonderful collection of social justice takes spotted online, and below we selected some of the best examples.

I want to sell t-shirts that read: "I am more than a uterus!" but I'm sure the incels would burn my house down or something.
I have gotten the question "do you have children?" And "why don't you have children?" for over 20 years. I had a terrible disease that prevents me from having them. It's a stupid, painful, intrusive question. And my husband has never, ever been asked those
When my in-laws pushed it, my hubby (who'd had liquor that day) stood up and announced, "We're not having any, I got my balls cut!" (vasectomy) Aaaaand.... that shut them up.

Oooh, and if you have them 'too young' or 'too old' there's also a stigma. Also, don't have too few and don't have too many.
Well most men I know can't actually get pregnant and the whole fathering a child out of wedlock stigma is an entirely different beast.
Load More Replies...Yes... it's called slavery. Laws that control someone else's body violate body autonomy. Anti-abortion laws grant "rights" to the unborn at the expense of the mother's right to her own body. Granting rights to someone at the expense of another... or depriving someone of their rights for the benefit of another, is the basis of slavery. All anti-abortion laws violate the 13 Amendment. Also, the State has no vested interest (social or otherwise) in preserving a "right to life" for the unborn... because it has none in preserving a "right to life" of the already living. Several SCOTUS and state SC decisions have declared that the duty of police is to protect "society", not individual citizens. That's a real legal/intellectual stretch... since every society is composed of individual citizens. Without them, you haven't got a society... you haven't got anything. And here's a real kicker about those SCOTUS decisions... they were by liberal dominated courts.
I love this ... best explanation I've ever heard.
Load More Replies...It's about politicians messing with things they have no right to decide there r worst things going on in this country they need to take care of that business instead telling women what to do about their choices
Exactly this. My country (🇫🇮) offers many, many benefits and ways to support struggling people that I have not needed and hopefully never will. I still support free or almost free chemotherapy, insulin, other medicine, parental leave, day care, unemployment support etc. If my neighbour gets help because of my taxes, well that's money well spent then.
just because you dont want or need doesn't mean others lives wouldn't be greatly improved by the things you already have , like health care , housing , FOOD , i'm sick of the "i'm alright so screw you" attitude , especially when it comes from the religious , any religious person who does not practice what they preach should stop preaching
In the States, this is a position taken mostly by conservatives. They don't care about an issue until it affects them or their family. People on the left though are able to empathize with people who are not like them and have problems that they don't have. They just have more heart!
Load More Replies...My state has a lot of high taxes people complain about butI don't mind paying because when I was down and out they supported a lot of programs that helped me immensely. I'm pretty much back on my feet because of that and have no problem supporting other people now by paying my taxes to help improve other people's lives
But you see people don't want others to have a better life. Even when that means they get screwed as well. That's the reality of so many peoples mindset in this world. They want their own kind starving, homeless, uneducated, unhealthy, and uncomfortable. That's their stance when they say people don't deserve to earn enough money. People like that literally do not want better for anyone including themselves and it's just sad and inhumane to be honest.
I like Daniel Kahnemans' idea that we should focus on the reduction of misery, we can do that through the above mentioned actions. These ideas won't make you rich, more money really doesn't buy you more happiness. Being supported by the above ideas will help alleviate aspects that cause misery.
It seems like there is this mentality of "If I don't benefit from it directly, I don't care." I'm not sure how so many of these people grew up to be so selfish. These are the same people that earn six figure salaries and panic at having their taxes increased because they may not be able to afford to by a new car every other year or get the fashionable accessories to keep up with their friends. I've never tried to play the popularity contest with people because there is no point. You're letting other people dictate how you should live your life and you are constantly worried about what other people think of you. How is that a happy life?
I always feel almost guilty asking for basic needs and being treated with minimal human decency. At the end of the day we’ve all been programmed to believe that we need to work hard to simply live
Like you said, we've been manipulated and convinced that us simply existing makes us not valuable. We've been fooled, brainwashed into thinking that we do not deserve even our most basic of needs to be met if we don't do something for it. It's quite evil, wrong, and inhumane when you think about how we as a species have been conditioned to think that the way it is is normal. There should be no conditions on human beings eating or having the things we all need to literally stay alive. Forcing humans to abide by certain rules and using money as a way to control the things we all desperately need to stay alive and carry on day to day. To deny humans food, water, shelter, or anything else we need if we don't have money or enough money is horrible and completely insane to do to so many people. Yet not to many people see how awful that really is. Especially when there is enough food and water and the things we all need to maintain us all. When you really sit back and think about the systems put in place. You can't possibly deny just how messed up it all really is. Once you realize it and it hits you, it's hard to process just how fooled we all are when it comes to humanity and how far away we are from being decent to our own kind and people being comfortable, stable, and enjoying our existence and just wanting the things we need to live.

I will vote for any politician that can lower my taxes regardless of how he/she might act or divide the country” I will never understand why people are like this. Or how to change that line of thinking. How about we demand change at the source (big pharma, college loans, etc.)that has put us where we are to begin with???? I guess greed really is the root of all evil.
I remember seeing a woman online who had no kids and wasn't planning to, wondering why she should pay to send other people's kids to school. No amount of explanation by others made the slightest bit of difference. I never had kids either and it never occurred to me to resent paying taxes for schooling other people's kids. In fact, I consider it a privilege and a duty. Because at the end of the day, we all pay for things we don't personally use, but we are certainly grateful when those services are available when we need them. I may have not had kids needing to be schooled but I have had other needs that I have gotten help with. And even if I hadn't, at least I did something to contribute to the betterment of our society.

Why are people still believing rape is caused by unbridled lust? Rape is a power play intended to hurt, humiliate, degrade & terrorize the victim, full stop.
Again, doesn't matter what you're wearing. That's a myth created by predators who are guilty of rape to shift the blame for their own actions to their victims.

That's terrible, I'm so sorry. Be assured that even if you were wearing heels, fishnets and a micro skirt you wouldn't have been asking for it either. Women should be able to wear what they want and not be afraid of these predatory scumbags that commit these heinous crimes. There's no such thing as 'asking for it' and anyone who tells you otherwise is a scumbag too.

To "Take some responsibility" for being raped, would have to be one of the most sickening, statements I have ever heard in my entire life!!! At one point in my life it would have shattered my ability to think logically and would have caused me to react accordingly...and for good reason. I hate to admit that but regardless if you are a victim of this heinous Act or not, this piece of shits statement is getting a reaction from us ..BUT THAT is EXACTLY what HE WANTS is it not? The powerful sentence followed: “We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny.” While MLK Jr. was specifically talking about racism in America and the necessity of all people to stand up for injustice wherever they see it, it showed how we are all connected in many more ways than we think. So a simple gesture of standing up against injustice, whether online or in real life is incredibly important.

And another catchy slogan was "The solution to pollution is dilution." Never underestimate the power of stupidity.
What did the jolly man do? He's real, don't lie to me! Seriously though, totally agree.
I just watched the mini-series V (from the 80s) for kicks and at one point all the scientists were outcasts, rounded up for brainwashing, or killed for questioning the visitors. That scared me because it could very well happen.
I loved V when it was on. I was very young, I need to watch it again. It was a great show! You're exactly right about how brainwashing can drown out the good guys and worse. It should be a real fear in this age, there are far too many underground and above ground groups actively working against the beliefs of science and history. If what has been going on since the pandemic began hasn't been causing people concern, then I'd be worried. I've never seen and heard so many things that have made me gasp in shock, as in the last couple years.

That was that swimmer, right? Not gonna lie, I was really hoping someone would unalive him before he got out.
I'm from Alabama originally, from a town of 5,000 or so people-yet there were 39 churches in our town. THIRTY F*****G NINE. Yet 0 abortion clinics that I could find. Draw your own conclusions about why this is a "law". My friend was raped and became pregnant, so we looked anywhere we could feasibly drive out of state to and back in a day (no money to fly) and we couldn't find one. She didn't want anyone to know. She later told me the awful things she did to herself to try to get rid of the fetus. Submerging in scalding hot water, punching herself repeatedly in the stomach HARD-then went even further and beat herself with a metal softball bat, trying to induce a miscarriage through physical trauma. She was planning to stick a metal skewer used for food inside herself, and if that didn't work, she planned to slit her wrists. To commit suicide. I only found out about all the things she did after she finally had a miscarriage and told me, while sobbing with relief, shame, guilt, disgust, happiness, anger....her emotions ran the gamut. This is what happens in Alabama. And this happens every day, we just don't hear about it.
I'm a Christian and this, just this. More people need to understand this.
Don't forget that these politicians swear their "Oath to uphold the constitution" on the Bible. They don't swear to "uphold the Bible" on the constitution!
This reminds me of Science-Religion. Science has questions that may never be answered, Religion has answers that can never be questioned..
Plus it's always one religion that makes the rules, regardless of the fact that some stuff are allowed in other religions. Plus as always, you're represented by the strongest/extremist/unreasonable/loudest side of your community (religious or not actually) so even within one religion opinions are not always homogenic.
Exactly. Even among Christian churches there isn't agreement. Is drinking alcohol OK or not? Dancing? All kinds of other things. I don't get why those who seem to want to turn the US into a theocracy seem to think it will be their "flavor" of faith that will be in power.

I have a t-shirt that says something like this. And yet still some are offended by it!
Even though many people realize the importance of calling out the injustice, whether it’s racism or homophobia, there has been a disturbing increase in hate speech in the U.S. in recent years. A recent report by the Special Rapporteur on minority issues, Dr Fernand de Varennes, showed that the “efforts in the fight against ‘the tsunami of hate and xenophobia in social media’ appear to be largely failing because hate is increasing, not diminishing.”
"In many countries, three-quarters or more of the victims of online hate speech are members of minority groups. Women belonging to these groups are disproportionately targeted,” he reported in a speech during the 13th Forum on Minority Issues at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
I find it horribly ironic how pro-lifers foam at the mouth at women who have to make the difficult decision to have an abortion yet we never see or hear about these pro-lifers adopting or advocating for better rights for children and improvements in the foster care and adoption systems. I also don’t see ir hear these pro-lifers standing up for better gun rights in the United States. Pro-lifers thump their bibles and keep on mentioning how Jesus loves everyone yet it’s an absolute free for all after a child has been born. Biggest bunch of angry hypocrites.
You are 100% correct. Pro-lifers are against a woman's right to choose what happens to her own body, but always vote against the things that would support her and an infant. Then they vote against sane gun control that would keep her child safe while in school, all the while holding up a Bible saying, "We need more Jesus in this country"! Biggest bunch of idiots I've ever seen.

I just had a conversation with someone the other day who was criticizing Miley Cyrus for being all sexed up and slutty a few years back. I said "What did you expect with her father being the way he is?" I always wondered why she was like that too after her father flipped out at nearly naked photos of her. Then I saw a promotional picture with him in it standing next to 5-6 buxom girls who had the equivalent of two postage stamps and a band-aid for a bikini. I thought, you hypocrite. It's ok for you to exploit other peoples daughters, but your little girl has to be as pure as the driven snow. No wonder the girl is messed up. SMH.

Wanting to do ballet, doesn't make your son gay. Wanting to be a cheerleader, doesn't make your son gay. Wanting to do performing arts, doesn't make your son gay. The only thing that makes your son gay is their attraction to men, something that neither they or anyone else can control.
I've always found the notion that dancing is "gay", "girly" or "soft" ridiculous and that those terms are often used interchangeably is absurd. Why is it "manly" to shift your weight from foot to foot while looking bored and insecure? Is it such a "hard" and "hetro" thing to accomplish?

When I was a teen my friend got kicked out of his house when he came out to his dad. (His dad said he loved him but wouldn't have any of that gayness going on in his house.) Oh so many do, and for so many reasons. My own father refused to pay for his daughters to go to college as there is no point in educating girls (they're just gonna get married anyhow). Had a friend whose parents withdrew their college funding because he wanted to study engineering instead of becoming "a lawyer, just like Dad." What they're wanting is marionettes, not children.

My uncle was big and strong, played soccer, worked in construction. Got a sex change when he was...I dunno, somewhere in his forties. It's like cultural preferences and sexuality are separate things. Amazing.
Stories like this just make me want to cry. I hope you have found the freedom and peace to live a life of your own choosing now. You have my best wishes.
This boggles my mind. When I became a parent, I did so knowing that it would be hard at times, that there would be sacrifices to my lifestyle along the way, and that my child would likely have interests and ideas that differed from mine, and that, ideally, they'd be their own person. Never once did it occur to me to love them less because of this. This is YOUR CHILD. You love and support them no matter what - that's literally your most important job!
Yes two sports with man on man action is definitely better than dance or theater to make sure you show how manly you are! It’s so silly - give your child joy!

We reached out to Dr. Lise Deguire, clinical psychologist and author of a multiple award-winning book “Flashback Girl: Lessons on Resilience From a Burn Survivor” who shared some eye-opening insights.
In most cases, Dr. Deguire argues, those who judge others tend to be just as harshly judgemental about themselves. “In my clinical experience, the people who are most judgmental towards others are secretly the most harshly judgemental towards themselves. Inside, these people are highly self-critical. It is no wonder then that they treat others the same way they treat themselves, critically and harshly. Frequently, when these people learn to be more loving and accepting towards themselves, they also become more tolerant and sympathetic towards others,” Dr. Deguire explained.
@Miven's post... I think this is a valid question and didn't deserve all the downvotes. The blame and shame is thrown at the woman rather than making the men accountable for their part in it. This post is highlighting that part we tend to overlook.

Literally within two hours of birthing my child. She was 14 when I finally had to have a hysterectomy and up to the day of my surgery my mother kept telling me to have another child. Seriously people, stay in your own lane. If you want six kids then have them. Of you don't want kids don't have them. If you only want one then only have one. Don't judge people for their life choices. I tell my kids that the only thing they owe society is not to be a criminal.

At the same time, judgment hurts people from the inside out. Dr. Deguire explained that people's judgment and criticism of us feel absolutely terrible, sometimes even devastating. “When this happens, the first thing to do is to notice your own pain and distress and to treat yourself kindly. It hurts, plain and simple. Having compassion for your pain will help you bear it.”
“Once you have recovered from the hurt of being judged, it is good to remember that anyone judging you that harshly is probably in a lot of pain themselves,” Lise said and added that awareness may help you to move beyond the hurt of the moment.
Accurate observation, and assessment, I’d say.

It makes the message come across much better that these people in no way choose to be in that situation, but were forced into it. 'Slaves' is a much more passive term, 'Enslaved people' actively portrays the circumstances.
Very interesting. 'They are slaves', or 'They are (en)slaved people'. Both are equally descriptive, yet one is a name/noun but the other describes the situation they are in, very powerful.
Referring to people as "slaves" rather than "enslaved people" robs them of their humanity and makes them objects to be bartered.
Well in all honesty, that is exactly what happened to them and has been the situation from the very first time people became enslaved and were therefore slaves. A commodity to be bought and sold much like livestock.
Load More Replies...... won't let us refer to SLAVES as "slaves" ...... Looks like you have not learnt anything!
Because "slaves" are property. The intent here is to stop talking about them as property and instead talk about them as people who were treated as property. It's like the difference between being "Joe's wife" vs "Amy, who married Joe."

Yes, but let's also be honest that they're doing it making stuff (mostly fuels) that we consume. In a capitalist society, choosing where you spend money is yourost powerful political act.
Load More Replies...Ok, hear me out here. Consumers properly dispose of waste, so how does that waste end up in the oceans? Most of the consumers did not put it there. Stop blaming the consumer and start looking at the companies dumping it all instead of processing it correctly!
Part of the problem may be that we decided to ship our plastic recycling to other countries like China. Turns out most plastic isn't recyclable, even with that little symbol saying it is. So what do these countries do with the excess plastic? It's doubtful they have the same regulations like we do that requires them to securely go in landfills.
Load More Replies...Part of this though is that climate change is not the only environmental issue. Even if those companies were to substantially reduce their emissions, human beings would still need to dramatically reevaluate our fundamental orientation to the nonhuman world.
Those corporations only exist because you buy their stuff. Complaining about BP producing the emissions while driving a huge gas guzzler is to miss the entire point.
I only have a small gas guzzler and can't afford to replace it with an electric one (which actually isn't the answer it's being promoted as). Until very recently there was no viable alternative to heat my house (still unaffordable to most) . Gas guzzlers are for sure a bad idea but stop blaming the end user when there has been far too little choice and corporations have been getting away with shi-t because it has been in their best interest to leave things as they were for decades whilst making them extremely wealthy.
Load More Replies...The emissions of most of those 100 corporations are due to power plants. The energy produced by these plants is used by common citizens. So if we recycle, compost, go vegan and use less energy overall we'll pollute less. https://peri.umass.edu/greenhouse-100-polluters-index-current
That isn’t an excuse for inaction. What you choose to do to reduce your carbon footprint does make a difference.
Doesn't remove the individual's responsibility to act with sense. With no consumers there would be no corporations.
My home country of Scotland was the first country to end period poverty by making tampons and pads free in all public places like schools, restaurants, museums, youth centres and even pharmacies. Now I live and work in the US and freaking have to pay for them—it’s pitiful.

Distancing, masking, and all other demonstrably effective harm reduction modalities are being reduced, minimized or discontinued, not because that's the wisest course, but rather because polls show the populace in the US has "COVID-fatigue" which might influence the next cycle of elections. Members of either party will vote to do whatever they believe will keep them in office, not what should in reality be done.

I even often get nasty comments because I do outings with my children and often get asked why the mother is not there, or hear accusations that I might be doing something to them because I am a man. Because those ignorant assholes seem to think Planned Parenthood is just about abortion. And even if it was, they should still leave people alone.
I’ve never had an abortion yet have utilized Planned Parenthood’s service numerous times. When I was a teenager scared to tell my dad I needed birth control, they provided it. When I needed multiple cancer screenings in my early twenties, they provided them. When I did have insurance and needed an affordable pap, they provided it. PP is an amazing organization.
Planned Parenthood merely informs and helps give support to women with no support system. It doesn’t force or influence, but only assists if someone who has made their decision needs it/asks for it. Look up Margaret Sanger, who helped start PP, and you’ll see she had good reason to be concerned about the woeful lack of assistance with, or even understanding of—-especially by male doctors—-gynecological and other women's life and health issues, including baby care and parenting instruction. Hell, some of it is STILL a problem today, specifically make doctors ignoring female patients complaints and writing them off as things like hypochondria or hysteria.
Planned Parenthood helped my parents find out why they were infertile. Back in the late 1950s!
Not to mention access to birth control and good sex education is exactly how you avoid the abortions they hate so much.
Had a friend who found out they had cancer and were pregnant on the same day. Luckily, everything worked out, but I am sure she could not have kids if she were dead.
The issue is more that somehow a lot of the people who say that "happens to men too" - don't seem to actually do anything about it except mentioning that to a woman when the issue is raised. They are usually the first to ridicule other men who try to talk about the issue. In other words - if the only reason you mention that it happens to men is just to try and silence women - you're still a !@$#!@

NEVER? If a guy is pretending only men feel suicidal then he should be educated. Let's try to feel empthy to ALL people and stop the gender wars,
Empathy is lacking as a virtue in so many people these days, and that causes/exacerbates so many problems in this world. I Wish the world would wake up, and learn how important it is to foster empathy in those people who don't have it naturally. I believe it should be taught as its own subject in school, for starters.
empathy is lacking these days , it seems like peoples own problems prevent them from seeing things from another's perspective , sure you find it shitty paying £100 to fill your car , others a living on £100 a week , perspective should = empathy , it doesn't these days it = not my problem
I had a so-called friend that firmly denied the fact that sexual assaults happened to men too. I see the point but sometimes it is justified to remind these basic facts
I find this so weird... it's like they don't read, watch the news, see any of real life. Blinkered to the extreme. This isn't new, men have been victims as well for as long as humans have existed. Sounds great, but he made sure to carve out the all-inclusive, comprehensive, zero-deductible, lifelong free health insurance given to senators, members of congress president, VP and their families. That insurance continues even if they're thrown out of office after one term (or maybe even if impeached prior, though I'm not sure about that one).
I know it's been shown that a (not advised by a man) smile can lift someone's mood in the short term, but in the long term, won't it condition you to feel sad when you smile?
No because happiness is really just a series of chemicals being released into our bodies. That's why depression is a thing. It's an imbalance of those chemicals. Things like exercising, petting a dog, or simply smiling releases endorphins, which make us happy. It's not our mind trying to tell us we are happy when we aren't, we genuinely become happy. Because of the hormones. At least that is how I understand from the very very basic information I got in psychology 101. I could be wrong.

If you want to see someone smile, don't tell them to; give them a reason to. Tell a joke, do something kind, or compliment/encourage them on something they have control over, like dress sense or a job well done. Yes, it takes a little more thought - but that's kinda the point. You're showing that you value them enough to make that effort.
Exactly but men who say that to women dont value women. They only want to control women and intimidate women and let women know we only exist for mens entertainment and whether or not we have a bad day and have the right as human beings to feel sad about it, we must smile because a man told us to.
Load More Replies...Smiling, even if not genuine, does so by altering the temperature in the brain. When you smile you contract the blood vessels leading to the dura mater which lowers it slightly, enough to spur production of the dopamine, serotonin, and endorphine chemicals. Inversely, when your face is relaxed or frowning, the temperature rises and inhibits their production.

This is an unpopular opinion but we need to have more discussions. Emphasize is discussions, not arguments. People can't find out their opinions and their supposed facts are wrong if they are never presented with an alternative. I went to a very conservative HS (county voted Republican in every election since Lincoln). Our health teacher had multiple day discussions about women's health and everyone learned lies we were told(she got fired over it). Pigheaded males had to listen to her and their female classmates. There was more than one 16 year old boy (I'm included) who heard the truth for the 1st time about abortion, endometriosis, and institutional sexism. We discovered going to the OB/GYN doesn't make you a s**t and sex isn't owed.2 years later we were the first to graduate with no child pregnancies since they started tracking it.Not 1 woman dropped out to hide one.We also ended the town's trend of male teachers marrying female students. None of that happens w/o those talks.
Sunshine is the best disinfectant - the more we talk about these issues, the less people, especially young people will be scared of being their true selves.
Yes. But I can see how that discussion could be brutal in a classroom setting if not handled right. Imagine being a gay kid listening to his homophobic classmates saying he shouldn't have rights.

Most rich folks don’t want equality because then all their material wealth means nothing. If they can’t make others envious, or look down on the poor, they don’t feel good about themselves. This is one reason why countless systems are designed to keep the poor in poverty forever. Not all, but many, wealthy people would feel worthless if they couldn’t shove their privilege in your face. These peoples’ self worth as human beings depends entirely on how much MORE they have than others, which is a losing battle because someone always has more. And that makes me feel sorry for those types
Great response, AOC. Harry, dumb question, trying to bait, with a vague rhetorical "question".
Ah, if only she actually meant even half of what she says. A simple "bioassay" would be to ask if she favors "Medicare for all." She'd almost certainly answer "yes." Then ask if she would include Medicare for Senators and Members of Congress, who would have to forego their free, zero-deductible, all meds free, all-inclusive continued-for-life even after retirement (or non-reelection). It's always sad and terrible that it happens, to women AND men - we get that. Highlighting one issue doesn't exclude the other. That being said - it IS happening more often to women, and THAT needs to be our primary focus on a structural level (again, not about individuals - it's not about you.). AND yes, we need to add that historically it has happened in larger scale (compared to men) for so long we have normalized it. That is very important to raise awareness to and question the normalization.
This post is not dehumanizing men. It is saying that women, in order to protect themselves, tend to be mistrustful of men they don't know. This is, sadly, a necessary preventative safety precaution. The problem is that many men just don’t care if a woman wants to or not. They think it’s their birth right
Sometimes I think there's not a lot of married women out there who haven't been raped. How many times have they been woken up to their partner having their penis inside them and humping away? They weren't even awake, gave consent and all because a lot of young men are "horny" in the morning? Messy and annoying at times for women.

Men, ask the women in your lives when she first started receiving sexual attention from adult men. You will not like the answers you get. (For me, it was 12.)
Maybe we're not ready. Hell, we weren't ready to leave the womb, transition to solids, learn to tell the time or tie our shoelaces, go to school, or get full-time jobs - but we still managed it. Battered, scarred, and damaged, perhaps, but we still managed it. Whether or not we're ready for it doesn't mean that it isn't a conversation we need to be having. And it needs to start early, right around the time that little boys recognise that little girls aren't built the same way as them. If we hammer it home from an early age, if we reinforce it at home, in schools and colleges, in workplaces, if we reflect it in our media, then maybe, just maybe, men will finally get the message.
Ugh. Homophobia weaponized by our government is a disservice to us all. Why don't they dishonorably discharge all those military personnel who sexually assault their peers, or cover up sexual assault, and make them pay back every penny? How about that?
Find it strange that no one has mentioned the f**k up otherwise known as the VA. Are they enthusiastic about this situation or are they just saying 'yes' with only their words?' I keep thinking about that and all the times as a teen and college student how I was not excited or enthused but I was backed into a corner and pushed to "consent ". Wouldn't it be amazing if we all looked for the other person to be enthusiastic with their words and their body language??
And if the girl presses charges, he'll just argue that she said "yes".

I knew she did it out of jealousy because my aunt was free to go where she pleased and do as she pleased without having to consider motherhood. It was her choice, not a written in stone obligation.
If i was aborted i’d just be born somewhere else, right? like my consciousness would go somewhere else? like i wouldn’t never exist id still need a consciousness at some point dhjkkajsndbd

Load More Replies...That's true love. I recently had a brother pass away. He and I were not at all close. Over the years he said some pretty nasty things about me and my sister, also deceased. When discussing his passing with my stepson, I got emotional explaining some of the things my brother said to me. My stepson hugged me and said "just know that we love you". He's 42 and I am 67. True love !
It is pure hell to live in a household where no one ever says I love you. I grew up with parents like that, and promised myself that would never happen in my home. My older brothers did the same. So I tell everyone I love; my husband, my family, my friends, and my pets (we married too late and couldn’t have children, unfortunately) that I love them. Every day, several times a day. I want to reinforce to them that I love them. I want them to be confident about my love for them. I want them to wake up, go to work or school, come home, go to sleep knowing I love them without having to guess. Don’t be stingy with affection—-don’t go overboard but damn it, just show people you love them. You’re not making them stronger by withholding affection, you’re just turning them into emotional hot messes.
My kids were never embarrassed to say they love me. I once tried to jokingly call out to my son at school and his 6' 5" self yelled, "Mommy!" And ran at me and picked me up.
When my son was in high school when ever we talked on the phone whether he was with his buddies or not at the end of the call he always said I love you. As time went by I could hear hid friends in the background yell love you mom! Asked my son if they were making fun of him for it. He said no, and he never stopped saying it. He's 27 now and still says I love you at the end of every call. He is a hugger too and I love seeing him grab his dad in a big bear hug.
Or like my partners first failed marriage...you had to "prove" infidelity which involved actual infidelity and paying grotty PIs....sometimes you can''t do either but the marriage still sucked.
My MIL divorced her husband because he'd had an affair and was physically abusive to her. Courts didn't care about the abuse, but when he got up and admitted to the court about the affair, the court granted the divorce. I was like WTF?
Load More Replies...I mentioned that to my therapist on why my mother didn't just leave my Dad if she was that unhappy. My therapist said the 70's and 80's were much more different for women. They may automatically get custody of the kids, but getting divorced was like having an incurable disease that made everyone feel uncomfortable to be around. She also said, it would have been near impossible for her to get work with four kids and she may not have gotten the financial support she needed from your Dad if the courts were typical as they were back then. She may not have thought she had a choice but to stay married.
The "Married Women's Act of 1848". Also, Credit cards came into existence around 1958. Due to discrimination/patriarchal society, it was apparent women didn't exist on a level playing field when it came to applying for and being granted credit cards. Illegal for a woman to posses a credit card? NO. Darn difficult, Yes.
My parents divorced in 1979. My mother - though she had an income - couldn't get a credit card. When she remarried in 1982, she got a credit card immediately by virtue of her marriage. Ironically, that same year, I was just out of college and opened up a JC Penney credit card, even though my salary was very low. Go figure.

Women WERE property. Of our fathers, our brothers, or our husbands.
Yeah, and those people who assert feminism is destroying the world because, "Look, far more women are leaving their marriages!" Of freaking course, since they can now do so without financial and social ruin.
Nor get a loan nor get a mortgage and weren't ever expected or wanted to be able to work after having a child. We seriously were the whipping posts of society.
Women are leaving their husbands because the door's not locked from the outside anymore.
My sister had a shock when it came to selling our father's house we inherited. It turns out there is still a law on the books in California requiring a husband's consent to sell property, even though HE didn't inherit it! He signed, no problem, but we were both a little surprised by that!
It is a bit like going to the ER with a broken arm, and the Doctor saiy "Hey, but ALL bones matter...". Of course they do, but first let's just focus on the one that hurts.
It also doesn't say "black lives matter more" or "only black lives matter" ..
I’m from the Uk so this is perhaps a bit less emotive but to me. Black lives matter and I understand completely why that has to be stated. Asian lives matter, that needs to be stated too. Women’s lives matter, another statement that shouldn’t need stating but does. Poor peoples lives matter, again shouldn’t need stating but does. I’m so ashamed and frustrated that any of this needs to be pointed out.
But once you do you get yelled at for favoritism or some s**t like that. It sucks

Yes, but this is about getting the potential victims to change their behaviour. It's wrong. Sadly necessary but still wrong.

All men must be escorted by at least one mother or grandmother to monitor their behavior and keep them in line. And it's not cheap to hire a mom since they're in such high demand.
They do. That's what laws are. But these people aren't listening to the police. That's why they're asking the group who does.
People who've paid their student debt in blood have every right to be angry, but the anger should be directed at the people behind the predatory loans.
It should also be directed at the outrageous cost of University in the United States. If getting an education wasn’t so damned expensive in the US, so many young people and their families wouldn’t have to tragically fall prey to these horrible loan companies.
Load More Replies...That's like saying that we shouldn't cure disease because it would be unfair to everyone who has already been infected.
It doesn't have to be debt cancellation. It could simply be a reversal of the accrued and capitalised interest from a certain date onwards. The loan principle could and should still be paid and most likely would be paid very quickly. It's the exorbitant and extortionate interest which is the problem, I believe, since the result of capitalised interest at those rates is a rapidly increasing debt which has little chance of being paid off. Students should be given interest free loans. Why are things always so "black and white" in the world?
The cost of an university education in the United States is an absolute abomination. So many young people have to take out massive loans thinking that they will work their a*s off in school, get a wonderful job, and pay that loan off. Sadly, people who worked their hardest in University are still riddled with ridiculous amounts of student loan debt. It is tragic as it leads to extreme mental health problems (don’t get me started on the cost of medical care in the US) and many people struggle to buy a home and have a family.
Just because your degree actually worked for you doesn’t mean it has for all of us. I wanted a degree to improve my life and be able to support myself and my family. Reality is the complete opposite and now I have this crushing debt that I can’t whittle down hanging over my head for the last 15 years
"There were no mobile phones when I was young, so young people shouldn't have phones now." Makes just as little sense as that.
"Just because you learned it that way the first time, doesn't make it right."
Exactly. And I do so too, to correct the mistakes of my parents' generation.
It’s surprisingly easy to still discipline without hitting or humiliating.
I had my mother who would slap, hit and knock us around if we stepped a toe out of line. My father only spanked me once in my entire life. While my reaction to my mother was "Oh Sh!t, here we go again!" and I just saw her as a mean tyrant, in my father's case, I knew I'd really messed up and pissed him off because, in order for him to spank me, I had to have really pushed it over the line. There are times when a swat on the rear lets your kids know that enough is enough...but if you use it constantly...it has the opposite effect. We respected my dad. We hated my mother.
Sat in a doctors office and watched a kid hit his sister. Mom immediately back hands him and yells, "We don't hit." And I am the only one who saw the problem.
Children need structure, accountability, and they need discipline. Discipline comes in many forms, and NONE are one size fits all. Children also need attention, and that is something I see sorely lacking in my experience.
I have twin boys And it's the same message right, how can I spank hit and utterly control them and expect them to treat others good, fair and don't fkn hit or touch anyone that don't want you to is what I instill on them instead of fear and pain. You would not believe how many times I was told to spank or beat my kids.. they both have Autism... I've never hit my kids and family and others consider me a s**t parent. My kids are sweet, caring aware 12 year olds. I can only hope they stay this way
I'm sorry, but I disagree. You should never hit or yell at your children, not just because it might affect a relationship later on or in the future. I think that should never be the case, no matter what. Respect can be earned without doing this.
Not only that but also raising a child that way will show them it's ok to hit and yell at their future partners or children because that's how they grew up
The last school district where I taught banned corporal punishment. We even gave classes to parents of problem children of how to discipline with love and logic. It is study guides. We used them in our classrooms too. Very easy to change over too--- not that I ever hit a child before that in class. I know the principals did on extreme cases. Consequences that has meaning to the child and Consistency is much more affective.
Just made an rbg baby blanket for upcoming daughter. Husband thinks I'm nuts but I mean just look at like half this list
Nothing wrong with giving your daughter one of the most admirable people who ever lived as a role model. Hell, RBG is an excellent role model for both girls/women AND boys/men!
Load More Replies...I love RBG, amazing woman. But does it bother anyone else that she wouldn't retire, despite several serious health incidents? She should have retired when Obama was in office. Certainly Justices in the past considered who would be responsible for replacing their seat and continuing their legacy.
What makes you think that Mitch McConnell would have allowed Obama to replace her?
Load More Replies...When I heard that RBG died, I knew that whatever followed was going to be bad. But even in my worst fit of pessimism, I had no idea just how bad it was going to be. I would argue that with her death, the Supreme Court as we knew it ceased to exist.
Had she retired in full knowledge of her own age and her battle with cancer, we wouldn't have the current clusterfuck of a SCOTUS. While I admire her legacy, it has been overshadowed by her ego's inability to accept reality and behave appropriately. Thankfully, Justice Breyer isn't making the same mistake.
Sorry, not from the US, could someone explain how Trump was the reason they couldn't mourn?
RBG was a a liberal judge. When Supreme Court judges die, the current President nominates a person to take their place. So Trump picked a conservative, which changed the conservative/ liberal balance. Judges are appointed for life, so now this will impact rulings for decades.

I remember being in a crowded women's restroom (I should point out I am a woman) and this heavily pregnant came rushing in needing a toilet asap so I let her go first. The looks I got from the other women was truly surprising. I remember being preggars and the little blighter liked pressing on my bladder. I know pregnancy is not an illness but it can be an uncomfortable condition at times so compassion and understanding from others can go a long way.
Omfg, what a douche. You know, I was on a flight with a dude who was literally sweating bullets out of pain. He'd had a "rectal" surgery a week prior and thought he'd be okay to fly, but I guess he sat wrong and something tore? In any case I had a really soft neck pillow (the kind with the foam beads) and gave it to him to sit on. He kept saying no, he couldn't do that, it looked expensive (it wasn't; it was from $5 and below!), but he finally took it and the effect was immediate. It sort of worked as a 'donut' for him. I didn't want it back (obviously) but damn, why is it so bad to help someone out? If we're able to, just freakin do it! You might make someone's whole week!

I actually saw a LivePD where they were arresting a guy for drug possession. He was bawling saying he didn't want to do drugs anymore, but that they kept sending him back to the people that caused him to do drugs in the first place. There needs to be a better way to re-direct people that have served their time and want to make a change. Not all felons deserve a second chance, but if you arrest a gang-banger for assault and drug possession, but them send him back to the neighborhood where his gang is, how do you not expect him to feel pressured into going back to the gang? Remove them to a place where they can make a fresh start. Many will take a path out of that life if you open the door.
I think this goes for people who have been super wealthy for a long time too. If you haven't had to drive yourself or do laundry or cook and you've been able to travel without having to think about the cost for the last 10 years, is it any wonder you're out of touch with the concerns of the middle class?
I see your point, but the US prison system is meant to punish, not rehabilitate.
This makes it sound like you're against ALL incarceration. So do we let criminals roam free, or do we kill them?
You forgot to add “ and always willing to please you”. We’re not, for those of you who don’t get it—-just like you are not always willing to please us (and I mean please by our definition, not yours).

As long as it's what they want. Forcing a woman to cover up and forcing a woman to cover less are just different forms of objectification.
If a man chooses to wear modesty clothes no-one questions it. If a woman does the same thing you can guarantee people will lose their minds. Double standard, much?

Everyone who thinks they’re so progressive by saying that religious clothes for women are repressive; how about nuns? The one thing everyone has completely forgotten is that it’s the woman’s opinion that counts. If she wants to cover up, fine. If she wants to wear a bikini fine. The only opinion that matters is her own opinion.
Oh NO!! Surely we should draw the line at budgie smugglers!!! 🤣🤣🤣

BUT it is common knowledge now how eg Iran was in the 70s until women were suppressed and forced to cover up. Everytime I listen to a Muslim woman explaining hijabs/burkas, they always try to find justifications in freedom and whatever their dad or husband 'recommends'. It sounds like those women are brainwashed to believe that they are making their own choice to cover up. Just like our western fashion brainwashes some of us to trends on what is deemed acceptable at the time.
Sadly yes this is the case...however saying women are brainwashed into it...is a bit of a stretch...from my observation some women are forced but others feel safer or more spiritual when they wear the hijab...again it depends on each individual and their circumstances..

Report anyone being creepy - if you get back a pathetic response from a teacher then take it higher to the head or something. Tell your parents. The problem is with them and you shouldn't have to dress to feel safer. Talk to other girls, get a petition started to get teachers to address this with boys. The reason these things happen is because our ingrained reaction is to cover up, rather than to tackle it - because teachers DO ignore it. The downside to that is they'll go on doing it and it may even escalate. Others will feel the same, maybe there are even more vulnerable girls. It needs stomping on! If you don't feel able, don't worry, this isn't a go. Just if you do feel empowered to do something, you'll be doing the right thing.

This has changed, thank god. Girls in my school will now whip out a pad and carry it openly when they ask to use the bathroom. I can't, but I'm glad they can.
I'm thankful my daughter didn't buy into this nonsense. In high school, a male teacher refused her initial request to go to the women's room. He quickly changed his mind when she whipped out a tampon and waved it at him.
I’m teaching in Taiwan and I have teenage girls come to be at the beginning of class and just tell me they’re on their period and might need to go to the bathroom during class. I tell them to do what they need to do, no need to ask later and disrupt the class. No whisper, no shyness, just a simple biological function. Nothing to be ashamed of and part of that is not calling a “special gift” or any other euphemism.
I open them as loudly as possible as a warning to those around me. I have drastic mood swings while on my period, don't mess with me.

The 'fight or flight' response is well known, but psychologists say it should be "fight, flight or freeze".
Full phrase is fight, flight, freeze or appease. (There are other versions.) People stop at the first two for some reason but freeze, as a response, is very common. Particularly in assault.

A disturbingly large amount of parents don't want to be responsible for their own children, too.
Load More Replies...The pandemic related "distance learning" put parents in a tough spot with childcare. Often the only realistic choice was to have the older kids take care of the younger. I had one class of 18 8th graders (12&13 year olds), where 4 were taking care of infant/toddlers and 5 were responsible for younger school age kids. I don't think any of their parents like the arrangement, but that was the best they could work out.
It’s sad that some parents allow (or rather, force) this to happen. A teen shouldn’t be put in this position. If you don’t have childcare or can’t look after a baby, don’t have another child.
This would be a fair point under normal circumstances, but this refers to a student in a Zoom class, mid-pandemic. Schools on remote learning, daycares closed or full because of distancing, and while some parents had the ability to work from home (with its own set of complications while trying to simultaneously manage childcare), essential workers and many others still had to physically go to work. Many, many families had absolutely no choice, especially lower income ones. And of course, many families also lost a parent, sometimes two, or had them sick/hospitalized for extended periods, again, especially in lower income and racialized communities. The social supports families needed were not available and parents made the only choices they had available.

Living in and raising a family is a shared job, too many times i hear friends say she doesnt do this or he never does that, we need to stop focusing on whats not been done and just do it ourselves.
I have a job that requires massive overtime 3 1/2 months out of the year. At that time, my husband takes the full brunt of chores, family appointments and responsibilities so I can work and rest. When he came to me with a massive deadline for his work, he apologized for not being able to get housework done. I was like....excuse me? What makes you think I won't step up to the plate like you did for me? For some reason, he felt guilty about not taking care of me all the time. I had to tell him, it's my turn to take care of you...that's what a marriage is. You carry me when I need it, I carry you when you need it. And the rest of the time, we share the load.
Don’t get with a guy like this, certainly don’t have a family with one.
Yes! *I* like to have a nice body that can do things, like run, dance, hike. For me.
"so i can sit in my room and look at it" i honestly don't know if i find that creepy or empowered. I can't imagine actively wanting to look at my own body. Yes, i am simultaneously envious and squicked out. How does it strike others?
I get a lot of ribbing for taking care of myself being a dude and being single. Being single also means, if I get sick or injured, I have to deal with it. So staying healthy and fit also means being independent. Society seem to have this warped view that a grown fella need to have a robust waistline, crumbling skin and unkempt facial hair otherwise you're not really an "adult".
you wanna hear something truly heartbreaking? I am a heavy woman, and honest to God, the only time I've EVER been loudly, verbally assaulted in public by someone else for my weight, it was another woman. Absolutely ridiculous. Soon as women start turning on each other this way, then that means all the chauvinistic, Patriarchy-loving a-holes have won. That, plus what's going on right now with Roe v. Wade overturning, it's a rough time to be a woman....
Why is black women separately mentioned from women of color? I seriously wanna know.
i think this is a genuine question, not trolling. no need to downvote this!

Because of a fee delinquent and violent men the rest of us have been painted with the same brush. But as long it keeps women safe they can paint me with any brush they want. Their safety comes first.
Some really interesting points here; also it's fascinating to see how times have changed since I was younger ie change to law in UK regarding sexual consent in marriage and women and periods. But also the changes in abortion rights in America
Growing up looking more like a girl than a boy in the naughty 80s brought me perspectives on both sides. Progress have definitely happened over the past 4 decades, this I'm sure just by observation. It's also true some has regressed like the US and because of political use of religion as propaganda. At this stage, I can only see these progress stopping if people start being partisan or absolutely binary about things. It's never us vs them. It's always about finding a middle ground.
Oh yeah one time I whipped out my period blood pants. In front of a guy. I was at the nurse getting new pants. I bled on em
