In most developed countries (and many developing ones) this is covered by the social security net. In Germany, for instance, children have to contribute to the care cost depending on their salary. If they're too poor or the old person doesn't have children, then it's paid for by the public care insurance.

These businesses exist for draining whatever money old people have and then dumping them in the street. I can't think of anything as expensive as being old in the USA. And it's not the workers at these places who are getting the money, either. They have one of the worst jobs and worst incomes in the country. If people were paid for how hard their work is they would be the richest.

This is exceptionism: thinking there will be exceptions to rules for reasonable exceptions. When rules and laws are put into place, there are no exceptions to what is written! Rules and laws need to be written to take these into account in the first place, or better yet, implement rules and laws that help people, not harm them. Eg if you heard about regular eviction laws: "the owner can evict the tenant with 90 days notice for any reason" void of context, youd think it was reasonable. But remember, there are no exceptions for elderly, disabled people, single parents with young kids etc, so the law does not help. What should we do?

This is just sad AF because The Assisted living places only care about the money and NEVER about the patients that keep them in business... They should be f*****g ashamed of themselves... Assholes need to be cuffed and treated like garbage just like they did with this poor lady..!

In America? No. No, there's really not. People slide through ENORMOUS "gaps" in the system daily. And trust me, they are in no hurry to close those "gaps", either. It's one of the many reasons many Americans know America is a "third world country" now.

At a hospital I worked at here in WI there was a old Nazi/pedophile/rapist living on the floor because Germany refused to take him back. He was in a wheelchair and pretty disabled so couldn't just go on the run. No police or anything to watch him, he just wheels around. Supposedly been there for almost a decade, all paid for by the taxpayers. One nurse told me it's probably cost the hospital around $4-5 million.

Actually, she did have the funds to pay, just she felt she was doing to die soon, so shouldn't have had to. It was explained numerous times, and she refused help from the government.

She COULD pay. She chose not to. That's the problem with posts like these. Someone wanted attention, so they posted this without giving vital information. That's how people are nowadays. They are happy to be mislead or even lied to. (And people on the left like me think they are immune for some reason, which is a ghastly joke.)

It's pretty scary, Susan, yep. I wish I lived closer, you could move in with me. Seriously. There are apartment complexes that are for older people. Don't know what they're called in CA. They're like condos, but not that extravagant. It's all older people or retired. They often have 3-step care - depending on your abilities and health. You can an apartment (making payments, like a mortgage) or rent. They have events, Bingo, shoppers who help you or take you shopping, come and clean your place, all that (the state does this, too if requested at your home now!) My aunt got one of these places. After she got sicker (she had cancer) she got closer care, than finally moved to hospice - all part of this "package". This might be a little much for you but please check with your state. In Illinois and many other states I've lived in the state sends caretakers, Medicare pays for it, Medicaid will, too. There are also agencies like "Visitiing angels" Big hugs!
