It reminds me of a neon-psychedelic back alley in one of those futurism movies, while also being surprisingly nostalgic.
This seems very over-saturated, but the real thing is beautiful, too. (iirc this is Yozakura, or maybe it's Tetsugaku no michi, both beautiful places alongside canals to view cherry blossoms)
The place I lived a few years back has a creek downtown where they put up beautifully decorated glow in the dark boats during Christmas time. This remindes me of that

Load More Replies...The island is sparsely inhabited mostly by people who still make a living off fishing. It is indeed open to tourists.
Load More Replies...Here's a fun game. Call up the island on google maps and go to street view and see how many cats you can count. I lost count :(
Anyway, I thought of the problem of inbreeding occuring inevitable at some point?!
Load More Replies...1) just like in many other places with cats, Aoshima residents brought cats to control the local rodent population and, needless to say, the furry little hunters proliferated on the island. 😺 2) the island is located in Ozu, Ehime prefecture in Japan. 3) you most definitely can come! The island is open to the public, and I have been here. 10/10 recommend. Hope this helps 🥰

Japan is a country full of unique and fascinating quirks that make it a captivating place to explore. Did you know that Japan is famous for its abundance of vending machines? Speaking about convenience, Japan is renowned for its high-speed trains that can take you places in no time. The Shinkansen, also known as the bullet train, can reach speeds of up to 200 miles per hour (320 km/h) and is a symbol of Japan's technological advancement.

That's Himeji-jo. It's in Hyogo prefecture. It's to Osaka as the empire state building is to Toronto - the borders touch, that's it. It's a nice photo though ^^
A picture of the mermaid on the pier at Osaka Kaiyukan would be a better fit.

My partner and I take virtual tours via Youtube of Japan, we'll do it via train rides filmed, some mostly from the front of the train and just enjoy the sights. It kept us sane during lockdown.
It is really too bad that someone felt the need to manipulate what were otherwise lovely pictures.
good post, hopefully it encourages people to go to the southern Japan (from the middle of Honshu to the southern end of Okinawa). nothing to see here in Tohoku Region :)
It all looks a bit like it’s from Into The Spiderverse with the use of those bright neon colours
