Im in a job I don't love and can't quit right away because I need money. But I have dreams, I'm slowly taking small steps to make them happen, I have a financial plan and set monthly goals on our debt (almost paid off!!) and we have a timeline in mind. I firmly believe our dreams will happen, so now it's a plan, not just a dream.

I don't say this kind of things often. But i believe you are a sensitive person. Whatever is your dream you can do it. Except if it's world domination.

Yeah, my parents pushed me to "practical career choices", obstructing my arts interests. Today I'm unable to work because of all the abuse dealt to me in workplaces I never should've been in.

I'm sorry you're going through that, I know how it feels. What helped me was realising my biggest fear was being alone. Once I moved past that, I could stop living someone else's dream. What I'm trying to say is whomever you living the wrong dream for will of course be upset, and may go out your life for a while, but you will find other people.

Been there, you have to ask yourself this- Why does the other person not see your dream as important as theirs? You can support each other if the other person wants to support you. If they do not want to support you are they even worth your time? Sounds harsh, I get that, but someone holding you back means your happiness has to wait forever. Can you live that way?

Are they worth it?

There are a thousand ways to escape but escape isn’t the solution. Escapism is just losing yourself in another medium, usually more toxic and detrimental than the original cause. Pretty much the only solution is to face the problem and understand it. But that is a plane of hell in itself and overcoming it is even worse. After years of therapy I can’t make that step and in all honesty I know I never will. The best that can be done is to find small moments in each day that make you happy, a smell, a song, the wind on your skin. It’s not your dream but it helps with the terror and need to escape.

I get it. There is no way for me to escape as well. Not without breaking hearts at least. Besides it's already too late.

I'm still hoping to fulfill my dream...but "he's" to busy getting his.

Save yourself, get out of the situation, don't keep wasting time. Like Fiona says, it won't be easy but it is possible.

If you could choose any career you wanted, ignoring stability and expectations, what would you choose to do?

Just because you are older doesn't mean all have learned that. I may know the reasons why but I might keep doing something out of habit as a learned behavior and or I may even Understand what and why, but still do it because mainly self worth may not be where it should be, or being raised in a disciplined family and that was the emphasis, or guilt, or not allowing myself permission. It can be a terrible cycle. It's not easy but I have to want to Choose to make myself a priority. It can be a struggle to change as well.
