The Unspoken Truth is a series of webcomics created by Venezuelan artist Maria Guadarrama that feature a unique blend of emotional humor, taking the reader from lighthearted chuckles across to deep philosophical musings.

“I think the kind of people who enjoy my comics are the ones who like to take a look inside of them and the origin of their feelings,” Maria told Bored Panda. “Introspective and sensitive people, people who are in love.”

Maria works as a graphic designer as her day job, illustrating for The Unspoken Truth as a part-time job and hobby in the evenings. Art is her passion and has been since early childhood, and she takes her drawing inspiration from all the things that happen to her in her daily life. Maybe that's why these relatable comics hit home to so many.

Now living in Santiago, Chile, she feels a deep sadness about the way things have gone in her homeland. “It makes me feel hopeless and frustrated, especially when I think of my parents who are still living there,” she told us. “When I was in Venezuela, I worked for one of the most important newspapers there. But since the people who owned the newspaper were from the government, they were very specific about the subjects I was allowed to draw. I couldn't draw about politics or migration or economy.”

“There was a censorship of my funny comics because the power of doodling is big, I guess. Drawings make us approach knowledge in the way a child does. On the other hand, in South America, in general, there are a lot of illustrators with a strong voice and strong opinions, especially in Argentina and Mexico.”

While Maria says that she always tends to feel like an outsider, no matter where she goes, she is passionate about her country and longs for better days. You can read a beautiful and powerful comic about her thoughts on the situation in Venezuela here, it is a real eye-opener. She also has many similar works on her pages, which you can find linked below. Scroll down to check out her cute drawings on being in love and searching for those good relationships, and let us know what you think in the comments!

1: an abusive relationship. This one shows physical abuse. the man is the abuser and the woman is the victim. 2: A healthy relationship. This one doesn't need explaining. 3: Is kind of confusing. I think it shows another kind of abuse. This would be mentally or emotional abuse. The man could explode with anger over everything the woman does. These are just my theories so these might be wrong.

This is a lot deeper than it seems at first glance. The first couple as an axe and a log, while the two go hand in hand, is it a metaphor for how he chips away at her piece by piece? Something darker? The flowers and hive seems the most positive since they benefit each other (bees get food, flowers pollinated). The last is...well....Coke and Mentos go hand in hand if you want a nice explosion.

The first one isn't necessarily about abuse it is saying he takes away from her it could be any form of abuse meaning mental verbal, physical, it could be anything or it could just mean the relationship for her is all give and he is the only one who benefits from the relationship. The second one is pretty self explanatory, meaning they both benefit from each other. The third however is not about abuse the third is about compatibility, they do not get along together because of their conflicting personalities, they together as the saying goes are like oil and water they don't mix.

This is a great one. I always wondered if people were put in a room all with wearing a breathable loose brown paper bag, and we all started to get to know people without seeing them, then perhaps we'd see the person we were compatible with without making judgements. Sadly most of us go for the physical attraction and or are too judgmental. On the flip side this illustrates self love and acceptance beautifully and shows that everyone has something wonderful to offer.

When I see all those body-positive messages, I wonder, how many people will actually, 100% accept an ugly/fat person near them. I’m not talking “non-model” look. I’m talking arms, legs, belly, hands, but super ugly. Because one in the picture has a very sexy, TV-worth, femmine body. Double standarts.

Love this one too, ironic how the person on the Right is able to float and fit in the glass to float. The person on the left struggling doesn't have enough room to float if they wanted too.. but I'm sure the message here is about choices... and the goal should be acceptance, finding a way to make good out of a situation and being able to relax and not panic...

I've always wanted to be a dancer, but my parents always thought it was a phase. I've been learning dance from kpop videos and other tutorials.

Yes same! I’ve been singing and dancing and my parents laugh and say “She’ll grow out of it”. I’m 17 and I’m afraid it’s too late for me to start training. There’s an online competition based from Soompi. They partner with kpop industries (two years ago with JYP and last year with Cube). It’s all video based but hey, let’s try it together this year. It’s called Rising Legends and begins mid August. The girl who won last year is on Produce 48

I don't think these are ali truths. 2. Those people can really be happy and they want to share their happiness with you. You feel envy and tell yourself that they are fake. 2. Martyr talk (not always). "I suffer so much. More than everyone else. I hurt the most, but keep it to myself, because... ( there is no real reason for that. Talk, get help.)" Most likely you don't suffer the most. Help those who are.

I think a lot of people who are used to living with chronic pain or illness only really complain when things get really bad and those around them complain about much lesser problems before remembering who they're talking to them ending up apologising because the other person goes through so much more on a daily basis yet rarely mentions it. At least this is my experience of it. Generally those who are genuinely living with chronic pain/illness don't go in for martyr talk because they're too busy trying to get on with what life they can lead without everyone fussing around them all the time. The last thing they want is to constantly remind people how broken and how far from normal they are...

Then they try to convince others that it's the same for everyone else, as if it's a universal truth. Survivorship bias at its most obnoxious. If you think this is happiness then you're in for a rude awakening, happiness is a fleeting emotion and is gone in a second when you don't have another step to take. Your life looses purpose when you have no goal. What this is is an achievement you can be proud of and be satisfied with what you've done in life and then you set sail to your next goal.

Human milk from healthy mothers is formulated just right for baby humans. Sometimes the mother doesn't produce enough or just enough for colostrum, or maybe none at all. In that case, goat milk sits well in a baby's tummy. Sometimes goat milk is substituted for formula, when a baby cannot tolerate it. We're mammals. We have breasts to feed our young. I'd bet that girl was rather young, too.

Another amazing fact about breast milk, this coming from a NICU nurse- the milk the mom produces at the stage of pregnancy she delivers, contains exactly the amount of nutrients the baby needs. For example, if you deliver at 28 weeks, the milk will have more fat, more sugar and more protein than a mom delivering at full term. To say nothing about the immunities the mom passes on.

I hope people don't take this seriously. There are some extremely abusive parents in the world and listening to a few conversations will not reveal if it's the person or the mother that has a screw loose. How people treat abusive parents is NOT how they will treat their partner. Don't judge people by their parents. Cheers.

I'd say: look how his previous relationship ended. If it ended in respect and friendship from both sides, then he is a keeper. My man and his ex-wife always stayed good friends, and later she even became my best friend. I know that if the day comes we don't want to be together anymore, he will treat me with the same respect.

My mom always said, look at his relationship with his mother and pay attention to how he treats her because one day, he will treat you the same way and project his feelings about her onto you. I, stupidly, did not listen.

Okay, these cartoons are beyond contradictory. One says you are not allowed to need anyone, followed by commenters saying it is selfish. These same cartoons imply you must be healed and whole and completely happy on your own (which is ridiculous, because everyone has baggage). Then you get cartoons like this one that show you drowning & one day, the right person will come along to help you out. Which one is it???? Personally, I'm 100% on board w/ accepting someone w/ their baggage if they accept mine & are willing to work hard w/ me to make it work. You can't have a fantasy view of relationships in expecting it to all just be comfortable from the get go. To me, what defines a truly loving relationship is when you can accept the things you don't like about the other person, find ways to work w/ them or around them, while building them up. That doesn't mean you should accept everything you don't like. The key's finding what you're willing to sacrifice on AND being reasonable

The cartoon is talking about sites like Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat etc. where people post pictures of themselves of how they want the world to see them and not necessarily how they really are. They will upload 1 perfect selfie for every 50 imperfect ones they take and only tell of the good things that are going on in their lives and say nothing of the bad. When we take onboard that what you see is not the whole truth then we can start to realise that nobody's perfect and move on from believing that just because someone may look better than us, they are, in reality not that much different.

I think life is more of a war, a cold war.in almost all relationships it's like we attack nd stop nd then Parry again. It's just a dance. I don't think u can go through a relationship without hurting the other person. The fact remains can u grow through them or not. Otherwise any relationship is of no importance if u have to walk on eggshells around the person.

My country my customs, if you don't like them try somewhere else. My friend was with a muslim, lived here a long time, he openly judged her until she gave in and basically all the girls in our country, calling us sluts. And for the love of god, ask any muslim woman from a muslim coutnry why they wear it, because they HAVE TO while our immigrant hipster muslims wear it for "empowerment". Just insane...

This is wring on so many levels. This is not about local customs but life choices independent of culture. I am from "your" side of the world, my religion and philosophy of life was a personal choice. You want to impose a way of dressing on others, thats the problem. And you justify it by saying they all do exactly the same on "their. side. You dont have to cover up in other countries to avoid being raped or killed, thats bollocks. And guess what, I know muslim girls from muslim countries and theyd give you a strong piece of mind about your condescending and ignorant mindset

however sometimes people carry over their hurt and mistrust in new relationships or through projection, I have been guilty of this in the past and driven away people due to my lack of trust, it cuts both ways.

If someone isn't trustworthy self-esteem isn't going to solve the problem. Self-esteem is about recognising you are worthy of more than someone you can't trust.

People with self esteem are not full of themselves. It’s people who don’t have enough self self esteem that overcompensate with prowess for what they lack in self worth.

And without makeup means pimples, bags under eyes, pale and patchy... No wonder everyone wears makeup if this is what they think they look like without. Personally, I wear makeup for nights out and seeing people walking around with cake-face doing regular everyday stuff... I mean wtf, stop ruining your skin and you may look MUCH better without makeup. I was hanging out with 2 girls, none of us was wearing makeup but 1 wore it regularly otherwise - this one got asked multiple times if she was sick. Accept it, makeup does ruin your skin...

Always said this, don't toss the memories even though it would be much easier in the beginning. But it pays off later, as they are also part of yourself and part of the reason why you are what you are. But one is allowed to pack away for a while if it helps to think clearly :]

I hate the way the artist uses a dog to represent anxiety. Dogs are the opposite of this. I have a beautiful Border Collie called Shilo. He is just the most amazing thing in my life. If I ever feel sad anxious or negative in any way he just comes up and gives me one of his wonderful "Puppy Cuddles" and I just feel so happy and fantastic again. Just stroking him calms me down. And I am sure it is the same for every other dog owner.

The artist uses a dachshund in particular to represent anxiety. Have you ever *lived* with a dachshund? They're smart enough to be comical, stubborn enough to be infuriating, and have energy for *days* if they're interested in something (and utter couch potatoes if they are not). They DEMAND attention, rather than ask for it. They're an excellent portrayal of anxiety.....or maybe it is just MY dachshund that is lol.

Again something that's lost in translation..these were in a different language.. when you gossip the devil is listening.. you complain to your "friends" about your struggles .. but who knows where that info will end up . Be careful who you tell your secrets to..

I resent the fact that they make the devil a lefty.

While they're talking they share their worried about what may happen to their relationships and all important stuff. The devil takes notes because he would never think about certain ideas. They don't have to be mean.

Sometimes you have to actively let the good things in (sunshine) and work to get rid of the bad things :)

I interpreted it as a wrong word order: "It was made, open it and use it". The meaning is pretty clear either way

I don't know how to break the walls that has been surrounding this heart of mine for as long as I can remember. I want to, but it's tough. I was never heartbroken too. I'm afraid of what is going to happen when I am really heartbroken, this heart of mine might close permanently. :\

Being depressed is not the same as suffering from depression. Maybe you don't use the word "depressed" like "sad" in English, and it's just a bad translation.

As someone who has suffered from depression since childhood, I would like to try to explain this. You know that there are people who care about you and respect you. You know that you have had worthy accomplishments. You know that you are a worthwhile person. But during depressive episodes, your brain plays tricks on you, and convinces you that all of this is a lie. You may be only thinking about your faults and things you have done wrong. Medication and therapy can make all the difference. What's heartbreaking, is that so many people will not seek help because of fear or denial. A lot of people will bottle up their feelings and withdraw. I recently lost a neighbor to suicide. If you are suffering, please seek help. It doesn't have to end like that. :-(

It can make it worse for someone who is depressed to point out all the blessings in their life which mean they 'shouldn't be depressed'. It doesn't stop people feeling sad, it just means they feel guilty on top of that.

Exactly! And then they just feel like a s****y person on top of everything else because yes they are aware there are people in circumstances much worst than theirs but they don't have those past issues to make a comparison against. If someone's worst experience was for example spousal abuse and another person's worst experience was losing a loved one then both of those people in their own lives will consider that hitting rock bottom emotionally. People can't compare one person's depression to another's because we are all our own islands.

I am sorry, but this naïve. Depression is a serious (often deathly) disease - not just a wrong way to look at reality...

This represents not the actual mental depression (at least I like to think of it that way). When at the low level one might lose sight of the good things one has when overwhelmed by the worse. But real depression is definitely more than 'being distracted'!

Exactly! Before I got treatment for my depression, I knew I was blessed with many great things in life - a great kid, a nice career, good friends etc. and I could not understand why I still feel depressed. Turns out is is chemical imbalance in the brain and no amount of nice things could change that. Only medication could hep.

Ah f**k wow my depression is gone. Suicidal thoughts? Buh-bye. Self harm? Adios. Trauma? Never heard of her. Thanks. This comic cured me. And to think I wasted all that time on talking therapy and antidepressants - silly me!

So far I have loved all the pics until I got to this one, this one just pissed me off. Depression is not just someone being distracted. Depression takes a lot of hard work to get out of and you never really get out of it 100%. You may get back to feeling like you happy self etc but one word or action can from someone can throw you straight back down into the pit of depression.

It's a vicious circle, that spirals in on itself. Anxiety or trauma overshadows the good things in your life, which leads to sadness, which further blocks out the good things in your life, which leads to depression, which further isolates you from the good things in your life, which leads to deeper depression, which further overshadows... Please remember that depression is a sneaky bastard that lies to EVERYONE: It keeps sufferers from seeing any light in their lives, and it makes non-sufferers think that it's something different, or that it isn't real.

Fine if they both share that perspective at that given time, what matters is that no feelings get played with and hurt imho, so if you meet someone and hit it with, have a great time, share your time and yourself with while both not feeling an actual relationship for reasons known to each other, all the power to you
