Acting like an entitled, spoiled brat won’t win you any favors and won’t make you any new friends. In fact, you’re bound to lose a few if you don’t tone it down and continue making other people’s lives a living hell.
To you and I, these people are simply huge jerks who are best left ignored. But to the internet, they’re known as ‘Karens,’ no matter their actual gender or real name. Shaming ignorant Karens has become so huge, it’s even spawned its own subreddit, the ‘Eff You Karen’ community that shows everyone how not to act if you want to be a good person.

Problem is, it starts with a lie. "This is a standard vaccine composition." I don't know about anyone else, but you start with a lie, I have no reason to believe the rest. BTW, I am fully vaccinated.

The ‘Eff You Karen’ subreddit, founded in late 2017, is now homing in on the 1.2-million-member mark. Some of the subreddit’s rules include avoiding political topics, avoiding witch hunts, and censoring social media identities in order to protect the people being poked fun at.
They might be in the wrong and be way too entitled, but there are very few people who actually deserve being spammed by a bunch of angry internet users. Everyone makes mistakes and we need to leave enough room for people to grow and become better. Though, of course, that’s not an excuse for acting like a horrible, entitled person in the first place.

I came to the US over 30 years ago. Since I was learning a new language, I paid attention to these idiosyncrasies. Even back then plenty of people (who I assume are old now) replied with "No problem" or "You bet" or "No Sweat". Since in my native language replying "Do not perspire" or "You can place a wager on it" as a answer to "thank you" is nothing short of bizarre, they made an impression. Now, 30 years later the people complaining about this are the same generation as those that did it when they were young. This is a "get off my lawn" generational moment, with old people like me forgetting that such answers have been in the lexicon for decades. It's lazy generational shaming. Get over yourselves.

If the cashier says "thank you," it is on behalf of the store; as an individual, the cashier doesn't have anything to personally thank the customer for. On the other hand, as a shopper, the customer was directly helped by the cashier and should thank the cashier.

In French, the response to "Merci", is "de rien" ( which literally means 'of nothing". The message is, " It was Nothing" ) In Canadian French in Quebec, the response is " pas de probleme", -- which when translated to English, means " Not a Problem".

In Finland, we say either "Ole hyvä!" which is "you're welcome", "Eipä mitään" which translates to "Nothing" and finally sometimes "Eipä kestä (kiittää)!" which would roughly translate to "You shouldn't bother even thanking!". Not all anti-vaxxers are against vaccines because they are “harmful.” You’d be surprised how many people are anti-vax for religious reasons. I contracted TB from a classmate whose family believed in “God over medicine.” Her parents sent their unvaccinated kid to disease infested part of Africa on a church summer volunteer trip. They actually believed God would protect their kid from contagious diseases. If she did get sick, it was Gods will and it should be respected. The parents had the audacity to tell all 11 of us who contracted TB from their kid that our condition was God challenging our faith and devotion to Him. They were damn lucky I was too weak to punch them in the junk and uterus.

I wish it weren't necessary, but people who are unable to vaccinate their children for reasons other than being an idiot tend to word it as "My 3 year old CANNOT be vaccinated, rather than IS NOT vaccinated". It's a subtle difference, but gives the context you're looking for. Given the sarcastic responses, I would also suggest this isn't the first idiot post this woman has made.

Hahaha, I've had that experience... an American staying at the same hotel in Valencia, berating the reception staff because he couldn't understand them. I'm Irish, their English was fine... with an accent obviously but I could understand just fine. There must have been a dozen people hanging around just in shock at the rude American demanding everyone speak perfect English... while in Spain! Hahahah!

I had a lot of trouble in the smaller Brussels airport when i needed to get a corona test. They hired people that solely spoke French. Not flemish or german (the other two oficial languages of the country) or english. How is that normal? I couldnt even give her my information that she needed because she only spoke french.

I have met some Americans when working in the service industry who honestly didn't understand why we wouldn't accept dollars.
In a previous interview, I spoke about Karen memes and the context surrounding them with Matt Schimkowitz, Know Your Meme’s Senior Editor. According to him, there’s lots of potential for the meme to be insensitive and even offensive to women, so care must be taken when using this type of humor. My 15 yo daughter gets ridiculed, on the daily, about her guide dog. It’s a German Shepherd. 1) no adult ever should approach a kid, tween or teen and say anything to them! More less an adult 2) she has ASD, Narcolepsy 1, seizures and several other conditions. 3) anyone approaching her makes her go silent. Then the a$$ wipes demand she speaks! 4) it’s always a Karen or Ken that berates her too. 5) when she does have the confidence to speak she makes them feel about an inch tall bc she is high functioning and what people don’t understand is high functioning ASD, in some cases, the person has a high IQ, which she does. The jerks can’t even comprehend her bc she is talking WAY above there heads. 6) “that dog” cost more than your car!!! Side not, please don’t ever interfere with a service dog while they are with their owners and ask to pet them. NO. They are working. They get plenty exercise and are treated like Gods in most homes bc they are the ones that protect our loved one.

I have pondered this for a while. The very people who refuse to wear a mask should be over the moon that they have a legitimate way to disguise their facial features when out in public. I’ve encountered one unmasked person who had a legitimate reason for refusing to wear one. I actually defended her when two people started harassing her. She stayed clam, never raised her voice, and used respectful language. The fact that she was respectful told me the situation wasn’t what it seemed because most unmasked people have to be dragged out of store squawking. It turns out the woman was a Marine veteran. During her last tour in Iraq, a bomb explosion caused the building she was in to collapse on top of her. She was buried there for two days and started to lose oxygen a few hours before she was rescued. She can’t wear a mask because the closeness of the material to her face makes her claustrophobic and it makes it difficult to breathe. Both remind her of being under the rubble and as a result, triggers her PTSD. Her demeanor while these people aggressively harassed her told me she was being truthful.

And if it's an emergency, you don't have a car (or it's too far away) and so on, she could have asked politely if the store had some place where she could do that, like an office or storage room. The correct would be to use the spaces provided just for that in the ladies public bathrooms. Some shopping malls and coffee/restaurants now even offer a changing+nursing room (for mothers and fathers). I also have seen a mother change her baby's diaper on a restaurant table - how awful. It's a matter of hygiene, it's not the same as nursing!!!

These comments annoy the hell out of me! I'm about to give birth to my fourth child, all through c-sections. I didn't have a choice with the first two and no one will let you have a Vance after two csections. The recovery is horrible, you can't even get up or walk for what feels like forever, and forget walking with the baby for at least the first five days. Oh but the vagina births can jump up and change their babies first diaper and give them their first bath. I say a csection is more giving birth than a cations delivery, as we go through ten times the amount of pain. Plus you can't lift over ten pounds for six weeks, and guess what??? My babies are big!

And to add to this, I have had to have three corrective surgeries to remove scar tissue from the csections. Twice my bladder and uterus fused together and caused excruciating pain, and my bowel attached to my abdominal wall in three places from the healing scar tissue. Apparently, that doesn't count cause I didn't "give birth" in these judgmental bitches eyes. Sorry, I just think people who think this way are uneducated and dumb!!!

Friendly reminder that most foster and step parents at least DECIDE to be parents instead of just forgetting about contraception and not bothering to abort. That's why they're at least two, ideally three, layers of thickly woven fibers when they're made of fabric. Where as clothing is designed to be breathable and not have an airtight seal, allowing the skin to 'breathe'. (That level of filtration in pants would be convenient, I have brothers lol, but imagine taking off your pants at the end off the day and all the farts just rush out. Nightmarish.)

I wish people knew the definition of communism. Even better, I wish they had been to a communist country. I remember feeling the oppression. Everything was much more difficult. I was 13, it is something I will never forget. My father lived under a communist government, the ignorance of some people is insulting. What he lived and what people fear are worlds apart. Acting for the greater good is not communism. It is the act of a intelligent society. Even after loved ones died or others died after catching the illness from them, they are still self righteous. This always makes me laugh. I live in a communist city in France and i'm amazed how "communism" is still seen as the great red menace by a lot of people in USA. Basically in my city it's just more help for the person in need (school programs for failing kids, low cost trips, free public transportation for elderly people, free skate park and stuff like that) and less money spent on security cameras, rich neighborhoods christmas ornaments and shop marketing. No we don't live in shared buildings and we don't go to kolkhoze every morning.

People show respect towards their spouse, so they think they deserve respect too. Common phrases include "we serve too" and "military wife is the toughest job in the military." I blame places like Seaworld for inviting military members and family of military members to stand while everyone claps.

This is total crap. As a veteran, I married an active duty member. I get that some spouses do sacrifice some things. It just doesn't seem to be as much as they claim. Some have a support system, others don't. But they don't rate anything more than a civilian because they are a military spouse. Other than base privileges. They say they are doing 2 parent roles if one is deployed. Single parents do that every day. What about the spouses that stay home while the other spouse drive long-haul truck? What about airplane pilots/attendants and the families they leave behind? What about the families of the oil rig workers in the ocean, or the fishermen? I get that they may not have the longer deployment like the military, but they can be away for months sometimes. And a spouse should be b-slapped for trying to wear their spouse's rank. Many years ago, being a military spouse (wife, really) was very difficult. The saying was "If the Army wanted you to have a wife, they would have issued you one in your duffle bag. Junior enlisted had to seek official permission to marry. Every impediment was put in the couple's way. Post-Vietnam, the US military realized it had to expand into an organization of long-term highly skilled people, who would of course want to have families that needed to be supported. Base housing, medical care, PX shopping, etc. has closed the gap between military and civilian life (while corporate jobs have closed the gap from the other side by making its demands even greater.) But the old mentality of "Oh look how hard I have it" dies a hard death.

Term seems self-explanatory? Pandemics are a know threat, just like natural disasters and nuclear war, so you can plan for them. Model likelihoods and speeds, look for optimal reserves (PPE, hospital equip) for a given budget, protocols/flowcharts of If-Then e.g. when do you call up army reserves for logistic help? Just like iodine supplies and info messages and training PSAs and public shelters for nuclear war.

The ice? Worry about the lemons and limes. Buy beverages in bottles maybe? To the server, just don't give them ice.( Bet she asks for a fruit garnish.) I bought a condo right under the descent path of the local hospital helicopter (hospital is right across the road). It is a momentary annoyance compared to what the person being transported is going through. My late husband was a flight nurse on a police helicopter, and the idea that you should land miles away then transport by ambulance would have made him laugh. Kind of missing the whole point of rapid helicopter transport for critical cases.

I used to live near a hospital and a helicopter used to come in maybe about once a month at night. Some Karen (male or female - I don't know) letterboxed the entire suburb asking us to write to the govt to get it stopped at night. He/she said that the helicopter could land at the airport and then bring the patient by ambulance. That would have taken at least an additional 30 mins. I'm pleased to say that all my neighbours' reaction was the same: what a pity the Karen didn't include his/her name - all of us would have wanted to visit him/her to 'explain'.

My dad was a city councilor. He literally had a (male) constitutant email him with this complaint -- that Flight for Life was too loud. It's the helicopter service that saves lives in our mountainous region, transporting people to the hospital. It also transports severely sick/injured children to the larger hospital an hour away for speciality treatment. This dude was mad about it.

I live next to a train, a hospital, AND a fire department. I here sirens and train horns at night all the time! Do you want to know what I do about it? I sleep. And when I sleep over somewhere else, it's hard to sleep without the train in particular. Lol

Well, I’m fully vaccinated but still plan to wear a mask inside businesses until we’re at 80% or more vaccinated, especially in my area (the red armpit of an otherwise blue state). Better safe than sorry. Also, wearing a mask makes me overheated and sweaty, even in winter or extreme A/C. It also fogs up my glasses. So believe me, I will be ecstatic when we finally do reach a safe percentage of vaccinated people and I don’t have to. Until that happy day, however, I will continue to wear a mask and put up with being sweaty in the cold and trying to see through foggy glasses because wearing the damn thing is the right, and unselfish, thing to do.

While I was in the Navy, I was required to participate in Hazmat and Nuclear Response training. On a metal ship, in full hazmat gear which included a full M-5 gas mask, in Guantanamo, in the SUMMER, For 2 weeks, 8 hours a day. Anti-Maskers can cry me a whole river.......

I work in a pulmonary clinic... I've had very few patients coming in that don't want to wear a mask. They all get it! I get it! I have to w at one all day long! Why this is such an issue for some people is beyond me!

I have severe allergies and asthma and when I mowed the lawn here in Houston I had to wear a full gas mask, but you have a problem breathing through fabric and walking. So tell me who's the snowflake. I also managed to get swine flu or H1N1 when it came around spent several days in the ICU and almost a month being sick so yeah no thank you I'll wear a mask.

Dandelions are actually amazing plants that nourish the soil by increasing the nitrate content. Once they are done they go elsewhere. Also they can be eaten (leaves and flowers), but maybe not if you let your dog do its business in the garden.

I can actually see a way something like this could work. BEFORE YOU DOWNVOTE HEAR ME OUT PLEASE. In my band class, we have special masks to wear with a fold in the middle and a hole behind the fold. When we are playing, we slip the mouthpiece behind the fold so we can play our instrument. When we aren't playing, it works like a normal mask.

I don't think this is too bad. I mean, if you didn't know and there was a lot of talk about certain crimes, you'd be weary about it, too. I've made chalk-arrows on the street for training-exercise and a person asked me about it, too. I explained and she was satisfied (though I could have been lying, but shhh, don't tell her!), and I don't hold it against her that she asked. Why would I? She was concerned for burglar-signs and I think it's a good thing to pay attention.

O.M.G. This is in my hometown, 😂😂😂! And I'm not at all surprised, tbh - I lived in the area for 20+ years & more than a few people who live in that neighborhood are 'karens' & 'kyles'. So glad I don't live there anymore! And as an aside, many of the storm drains in the area date back to the 1930's, and are slowly being replaced, so yeah, the utility companies are gonna spray paint the locations of electrical, gas, & water lines, smh

Whether or not it is medical conditional, everybody should wear a mask. If I wear the mask for a long period of time, I will get a blocked nose, but I still wear it, because we should wear it to protect ourselves and others. Work at a butchers shop, and had a lady coming in wanting chicken to make soup. So I was like "oh we have these special soup parts!" (a 5 kg chicken chopped in 4 pieces). She just stared at me and said "uh I always get a normal whole chicken". I was like oh that also works, not everyone knows about the soup chicken blah blah. She suddenly gets mad at me because she always got a whole chicken whilst we had something else she didn't know about. Almost screaming at me how we scammed her and that we have horrible service. I actually just got some disposable masks (kids size) and I was kinda really happy to get them because they were going to fit properly. Now here’s the odd part. They don’t smell good. It’s not like a plastic smell. I can’t even identify it. Can still wear them. Just think it’s bizarre.

My mother (who has asthma btw) has been wearing a mask out for the entire pandemic. Even now after she's been vaccinated she still wears a mask for the safety of others. If my mother can do it these idiotic dungbags can do it.

My little brother has terrible asthma and a number of allergies. We grew up in a farm - the kid was always masked. Now he's a successful personal trainer who owns his own gym and wore a mask all through the pandemic.

My mother in law is named Karen and she thinks it's funny bc she's not like those crazy people as far as kids being named Karen it's been the most unpopular name for over a decade not many new Karen's running around. It's a shame that this is even a thing that's for sure

Work at a butchers shop, and had a lady coming in wanting chicken to make soup. So I was like "oh we have these special soup parts!" (a 5 kg chicken chopped in 4 pieces). She just stared at me and said "uh I always get a normal whole chicken". I was like oh that also works, not everyone knows about the soup chicken blah blah. She suddenly gets mad at me because she always got a whole chicken whilst we had something else she didn't know about. Almost screaming at me how we scammed her and that we have horrible service. She bought the chicken anyways and then stormed off yelling she would tell everyone how we are disgusting scammers. Lady, it just a piece of chicken

I just don’t get why people won’t wear the stupid mask. My FIVE year old little brother with asthma and a bajillion health problems happily wears his mask inside and outside whenever he needs to. Btw, a group of Karens is called a Homeowners Association (at least some of the times)
