35 Times ‘Karens’ Acted So Entitled, The Internet Had To Call Them Out For It In This Online Group
Acting like an entitled, spoiled brat won’t win you any favors and won’t make you any new friends. In fact, you’re bound to lose a few if you don’t tone it down and continue making other people’s lives a living hell.
To you and I, these people are simply huge jerks who are best left ignored. But to the internet, they’re known as ‘Karens,’ no matter their actual gender or real name. Shaming ignorant Karens has become so huge, it’s even spawned its own subreddit, the ‘Eff You Karen’ community that shows everyone how not to act if you want to be a good person.
In the mood for some more examples of unearned entitlement and outrage? Once you’re done upvoting the pics that made your jaw drop in this list, check out Bored Panda’s previous article about the ‘Eff You Karen’ community right over here.

Karen Alley Is Out Of Her Mind
The ‘Eff You Karen’ subreddit, founded in late 2017, is now homing in on the 1.2-million-member mark. Some of the subreddit’s rules include avoiding political topics, avoiding witch hunts, and censoring social media identities in order to protect the people being poked fun at.
They might be in the wrong and be way too entitled, but there are very few people who actually deserve being spammed by a bunch of angry internet users. Everyone makes mistakes and we need to leave enough room for people to grow and become better. Though, of course, that’s not an excuse for acting like a horrible, entitled person in the first place.

In a previous interview, I spoke about Karen memes and the context surrounding them with Matt Schimkowitz, Know Your Meme’s Senior Editor. According to him, there’s lots of potential for the meme to be insensitive and even offensive to women, so care must be taken when using this type of humor. He put it very plainly that we should all meme with caution, whatever the meme might be.
The Logic This Karen Has Is Very Small

“As [the meme] grows from a parody of a common social experience of someone demanding to speak to a manager to a statement about white privilege, the stakes over the meaning of the meme grow as well,” Matt told Bored Panda.

“I think that users of the meme should be cognizant that what they're meme-ing might not be their intent anymore. It's very possible that the meme could grow even farther to exhibit misogynistic tendencies, which are somewhat already present,” Matt warned those who use Karen memes to be aware of the context.

At the core of using memes for humor lies intent. Know Your Meme’s Senior Editor Matt pointed out that the Karen meme, something that’s used and enjoyed by many people, could eventually become connected to something that many would find offensive if people with sexist beliefs started using the term as a “catchall for all women.”

Though we can’t expect memes to be completely neutral. “Meme-ing can be nihilistic artform and rewards really ugly behavior in some cases. Sometimes, what starts as a fairly inoffensive meme can grow into something really hateful, like Pepe the Frog. I could see that happening to Karen—though, I'm not really sold one way or the other on the debate."

According to Matt, it’s hard to find the exact origin of the Karen meme. However, he personally believes that the most convincing origin story is a bit from Dane Cook's 2005 comedy special , "The Friend That Nobody Likes" where Karen is given this title. "This is one of the earliest examples that we have to using a specific name to stand in for a whole type of person, and it's a comedic trope that we've seen dozens of times over the last 15 years," Matt explained the possible origins of the meme to Bored Panda.

My mother (who has asthma btw) has been wearing a mask out for the entire pandemic. Even now after she's been vaccinated she still wears a mask for the safety of others. If my mother can do it these idiotic dungbags can do it.
My little brother has terrible asthma and a number of allergies. We grew up in a farm - the kid was always masked. Now he's a successful personal trainer who owns his own gym and wore a mask all through the pandemic.
"Wore a mask all through the pandemic" I might just be misunderstanding your comment, but you do know the pandemic isn't over right?
MIL is on permanent oxygen. She has yet to refuse to wear a mask.
I just figured out why it's even easier for asthmatic and COPD patients. The whole sensation of more resistance (due to a mask) is considered a threat in our minds. Asthma and COPD patients are used to that resistance! Becaues the oxygen coming in is no different, it's just that. That feeling of having to breath harder. Which usually does indicate danger. But if you can explain it to people like that, that their perception of fear is real, but can be dismissed because there is no danger. And that it's about the resistance and not the amount of oxygen. You might get through to them.
Rissie: I think you have hit the nail on the head there! I'm copd and gad(generalised anxiety disorder), amongst other things. If I breathe too fast/short, then I get insufficient oxygen; if I let my anxiety set in I breathe faster and faster, and cannot regain proper oxygen until I calm down and breathe slowly. I'm wearing a mask and have a lung infection as I type this btw. I had to master the anxiety that comes with panic breathing in order to breathe properly due to copd resistance: for many people without compromised breathing, the mask may be the first anxiety trigger they have experienced. It's ridiculously easy for anxiety to pose as a physical symptom, and then you worry about it and it worsens, and so forth
I have late onset asthma and I've been wearing a mask wo a problem even when I wasn't breathing so well
Exactly. I should know being asthmatic also.
Same here. I have asthma and I don’t have a problem wearing a mask. I also suffer from anxiety and occasional panic attacks. To prove a point I went jogging with my mask on and had absolutely no issues. I’ve been vaccinated and I still wear my mask. It’s not an inconvenience for me at all. It’s literally a piece of fabric. If you can’t function with a mask on to do your grocery shopping or if you suffer from a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask then it sounds like you just need to stay home.
About this "Karen" trend in general. It sucks. Like all name callings suck. I can't imagine how little girls named Karen must feel these days, or anyone named Karen for that matter.
My mother in law is named Karen and she thinks it's funny bc she's not like those crazy people as far as kids being named Karen it's been the most unpopular name for over a decade not many new Karen's running around. It's a shame that this is even a thing that's for sure
Tell you mother in law that the opposite of a Karen is a Sharon.
As someone named Karen, it doesn't really bother me. I'm also a middle aged, white, American woman. I'm sure I have my awful moments (like everyone), but I try really hard not to. It sort of reminds me to check myself. And some of it is really actually very funny.
My ex-sister-in-law's name is Karen. It's pretty damn accurate.
I work with a Karen (though she says it was originally pronounced Care'en, but it's spelled Karen so only old ladies who've known her all her life call her Care'en) but she's not A Karen, in fact she uses the internet so little she didn't even know about Karens as a type. But yeah, she's nearly 65, very few kids named Karen these days
I know two women named Karen. They both say "I'm Karen, not *a Karen.*"
It really sucks and I'm fed up with it. Gets me quite down sometimes.
I only know 2 Karen's and they are lovely. Dont let this bullshit bring you down ❤
I met someone at a store and we ran into each other a couple of times in the aisles and made small talk. With our masks on she looked like a lady I worked with years ago a little named Karen. I asked her name, and said it was because she looks like someone I knew. She told me, and I said the woman was named Karen. She asked if she was nice. I realized then she may have thought I was being weirdly passive aggressive. Or not, could have been a coincidence.
If it makes you feel any better, at least your name is - unlike D**k and W***y - not censored on BP. 🙂
It really is a form of bullying. It's vile.
I know several Karens and none of them are bothered by it. It doesn't seem to stray into real life.
I only know 2 Karen's and both of them are lovely women I aspire to be like one day. I think using a name to make generalisations is no worse than any other form of discrimination. One of the Karen's really liked her name until recently and that is so sad to hear. Cant we call them "I need to speak to the manager" types instead
My parents are best friends with a Karen. I mean her name is Karen. Probably one of the most wonderful people you’d ever meet but I absolutely promise you that to someone somewhere she has pulled a karen.
I agree. I've seen some pretty shitty videos where a woman does or says one little thing wrong and the cammer follows her around berating her and calling her a Karen and getting in her face until she breaks down and cries and he calls that a victory. That's just emotional abuse for the "likes".
Yes there are some of those. Not filmed but a couple of months ago I was picking up an order of 3 cookies @ Panera. I oreordered on the app and it said 20 minutes. Ok, maybe not, I'll go in and if it isnt ready I will wait outside. It was sitting there. I told the staff that it was mine and they said get in the proper line spot. uh, I was. I stood 6 feet back from the only other person. So it gets into the manager's hands and she takes it while she takes a call. I tell the girl she has my order. She asked, the manager yelled first come first served she has to wait. The girl makes the next order she sees....mine. Again. I find out because manager sees and tells her she is packing what is already in her hands & to put it back. I was already frustrated and asking for my items-I already paid and was physically next in line! I asked if a refund was faster. She says it would tske time so I said how about just handing me the damn bag in your hands. Called the owner who took my side.
Example? Link?
Can't speak for all Karen's but for me it feels like the internet has it in for me. It's also taken out of context a lot. I can't debate anything or comment online as someone will undoubtedly say 'typical Karen' it could be about the weather or a cat'. So now I don't comment much as I feel like my opinion isn't valid. I also should have to prove to people I'm a good person just because of my name. I I
Exactly! People are using it as a derogatory term. Even when it isn't valid. People are just nasty human beings and spread such awful things. Not realizing it effects everyone. Just thoughtless and inconsiderate.
Yes, calling people "a Karen" is unfair and silly, just like calling people "a Mohamed" or "a Paul". There are lots of people called Karen, and I know some who are now afraid to speak up against unfairness or anything for fear of people saying that Karen's really do live up to their name.
Seeing how not everyone named Karen behaves this way. It is discriminating against those named Karen. Because everyone thinks they all act this way. Even when there is a valid reason for complaint now. You are dismissed as a Karen. People who think like this are ignorant and I'm just tired of assholes in general. I swear more and more people are just becoming garbage humans.
Nobody sees someone named Karen and assumes anything about their personality. :P Do you think all D***s are d***s? Do you think all Johns are johns? It's just a word.
Agreed. And the idea that if there's a problem, and I mean a real one, if you don't want to be labeled a "Karen" you say nothing.

That’s just false.
I wonder if this Karen trend is only in the USA? In Europe I've never heard of it. And I also have 2 wonderful Karen friends (who are absolutely nothing like this "Karen"). If my name was used that way I'd feel conflicted too. Besides, sticking up for oneself and defending one's rights sounds baddass, and vilifying it seems sexist to me, especially since where I'm living at the opposite is often true: people and women in particular feel ashamed to stir the waters and be perceived as troublesome. By sexist, you know, I mean he=assertive and she=b****.
Did you even read the article? Stereotypical Karens don't "defend their rights," they're entitled misinformed assholes who won't take no for an answer even though saying yes would be insanity. I agree that there is indeed sexism against women who stand up for themselves, but that is not at all what the "Karens" are like. They *are* bitches. They're selfish & entitled. At least, that's the stererotype. To be clear, I'm not saying anyone named Karen is like this & I'm not saying it's right to turn somebody's name into an insult, but defending the behavior of this group of people isn't the best look. Besides, male Karens are a thing & there are several in the article.
The swimming pool installer I worked for used the name Steven for those of us who were being less than intelligent.
None of the D***s have been complaining about feeling targeted over the decades, the good Karens will be fine. They've enough logic to realize we're not talking about them.
Monday, do you actually know anyone called D*ck??? My dads name is Richard and not once has anyone called him D*ck as an insult because of his name...are you “special”? How is an insult based on a body part anything to do with the insult of calling a woman a ‘Karen’ ...stupid and based in sexism. But join in the bullying, you must be so proud.
Monday probably means those who are called D!ck as in Richard are not bent out of shape when someone calls out someone and calls them a d!ck as in privates. "You're a d!ck" -person, to someone cutting them in line "hey! That's offensive, my name is D!ck!" -says no D!ck ever behind them in line.
You are sounding a bit like a Karen....
Read how a woman named Karen feels further down in the comments. And she probably is a "good Karen", whatever that means.
No child in at least 25 years has been named Karen (*probably). Better than calling them for what they are...bitch and assholes. But some people will think anyone standing up for themselves is a Karen, thus losing original meaning.

That sounds like something a Karen would say. I do agree it probably sucks to have your name be an insult but at the same time, if the shoe doesn’t fit then don’t wear it.
What the f**k is that supposed to mean? If you're aged 40 and have had the name karen all your life and it's all of a sudden taken on a derograrty meaning just roll over and be a c**t?

Calm down, ugly. It means what it says. If it don’t apply, let it fly.
First of all, don’t call people ugly. Second of all, I agree with Lauren. If your name was Karen all your life and suddenly it means something bad, would you be annoyed? Don’t be mean.
Some of these were just people complaining about real stuff! Like the BLTch sandwich. If I got a slur on my food I would also be kinda pissed
i didnt realize that blt ch looks like bitch till i read your comment LMAO
