Think of the internet as the Wild West. It’s a place to share whatever you think of virtually anything, post things that you want, and engage in stuff that interests you, all in the comfort of your home. And while it’s our go-to place for connection, news and information, communication and work, people are different and so is the content.

So this time, we’re taking a look at some examples of clueless people sharing questionable arguments, fake news, illogical conspiracies, and anything in between. Thanks to “The Stupid Police”, every little bit of dumbness spotted online gets busted, screenshotted, and shared on their Twitter page.

With 144.1K followers, “The Stupid Police” is dedicated to “posting the most stupid internet moments,” and it’s basically a wall of shame for any post which lacks good judgment and common sense.

Bored Panda reached out to the creator behind The Stupid Police Twitter page, which currently has 145.1K followers. “I was thinking about creating a gimmick account for a while so I went through and tried to think of ideas that haven't been done before,” they told us. “This included cross-referencing viral tweets to find a similarity, looking through subreddits and searching through memes to find common similarities.”

The idea to create The Stupid Police came after its creator found “stupid Yahoo answers questions and stupid old tweets and I realized this was an unclaimed idea.” The instant success of the page can be attributed to the preparation which went before the page was even launched. “I didn't start the account with that, nor have I been posting that type of content because I knew they wouldn't go viral,” the creator said.

What they did instead was compiling “a list of viral-worthy tweets which all went viral, resulting in the blow up of this account.”

When asked if there’s a lot of dumb content surfing around on the internet, the creator of The Stupid Police confirmed that’s exactly the case. “I would say the main reason would be ignorance, but there are also people who want to feel special and do attention-seeking things,” they commented.

It also didn't totally disappear since a case to two still crops up once in a while.

There was a case this summer in (I think) Colorado and a 10-year-old boy died :(

It killed 1/3 of Europe at a time when most people didn't travel outside their village, which is even scarier.

It went away because it killed so many people that it couldn't spread anymore

It hasn't gone away. There are hundreds of plague deaths globally each year and a vaccine programme is currently in development.

Of course it did, in the 16th century and later a lot of Native Americans died because of the plague.

It didn’t disappear, it came back several times, then we found antibiotics. Black plague is cured by antibiotics. People are having it and be cured you know.. Not vaccines, because it’s bacteria based.

Thank you! It is a bacteria, not a virus. Vaccines don't stop bacteria, antibiotics do. Antibiotics don't stop viruses. Vaccinations build up natural immunity, preventing an increased spread because of the lack of hosts.

So far COVID has not disappeared, but more than 1 out of every 500 Americans has.

It's still around as is the "bird flu" or avian influenza. Fowl and humans still get it every week or so around the world.

There's an average of 5 or so cases of plague every year in the US alone, let alone anywhere else in the world. It is not gone, But fortunately, it can now be treated relatively easily.

They also eradicated rats, built a new water disposal sewage system and buried the dead rats instead of leaving them to rot.

seen as a reply by an anti-vaxxer in an anti-vax article: "but why we don't try to make something with some weakened Covid virus to stimulate our immune system to fight it?". Covid issue fixed by an anti-vaxxer. end of problems.

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever read. The Buponic Plague (Black Death) is still around in a lot of countries. We just don’t hear about it because it generally affects people living in poverty

There was such a labor shortage peasants were able to move up classes for one of the first times in the feudal era. I think- I’m not a historian and books might have been updated!

Multiple outbreaks. The first in 1346, the last recorded one in 1910 in Manchuria.

I think the point they think they're making is that we don't get vaccinated against the plague, and yet hardly anyone catches it anymore. That's what they need explaining.

Guess what actually eradicated it in the end in most developed countries? VACCINES!!!! The disease behind the plague was tuberculosis, which for many years now has been prevented by vaccination, in a similar way to polio, smallpox and many others.

It hasn't disappeared though. The difference is now is that we have better sanitation and antibiotics. Vaccines wouldn't work anyway because it's bacterial, not viral.
